Institute Information Literacy Plan


Information Literacy (IL) InstructionIt is the responsibility of the individual academic departments to ensure that every undergraduate within existing required courses obtains the necessary instruction in the eight IL outcomes described in this plan. Generally, IL instruction shall occur as part of required courses within each major so that IL is embedded across the NJIT curriculum.




There are 8 required NJIT outcomes or IL competencies.

Information Literacy Blog


The NJIT Library has created an Information Literacy forum that includes an IL Blog and a website for sharing best practices and information about information literacy.




The Information Literacy Blog allows faculty to share plans, ideas, syllabi, assignments, assessments, podcasts, etc. so that other faculty do not have to “reinvent the wheel.”




Any Faculty member or librarian may create a post to the Information Literacy Blog. Ask your Librarian Liaison for how to be authenticated.




There are a number of helpful Information Literacy web pages. Select Research & Instruction on the Library Main Page.

This laboratory component (Chem339-not listed) requires the material covered in Math 225A – Survey of Probability and Statistics. The student is introduced to six of the eight outcomes as part of preparing laboratory exercises.

Conclusion

Information Literacy at NJIT has made great progress but it is still a work in progress led by the UCRC and the library staff.
