Statement of Information Governance StrategyTo help the company take advantage of its information assets to ensure compliance, streamline the process of responding to investigations and drive critical business decisions while promoting efficiency and cost savings, through appropriate creation, storage and use of its information.
Definition of Infomation Governance: The activities and technol-ogies that organizations employ to maximize the value of their information while minimizing associated risks and costs.
Scope of IG Strategy: No need to 'boil the ocean' -- focus on business-crit-ical and most risk-sensitive information. Good IG is more than technology: includes strategy, management, practices and cultural changes.
Top Five to Seven IG Initiatives
1. Implement clear, accessible and flexible IG policies and processes which are embedded in the day to day operations of the company and are compliant with the relevant industry legislation.
2. Implement information security policies which take account of legislative and industry requirements, but which are appropriate, proportionate, measured and part of business as usual.
3. Analyze risk and gaps, and identify immediate mitigation actions, e.g., implement streamlined taxonomy, and retention / disposal schedule.
