    5. Curriculum, Teaching Learning Process/Method, Examination/

    Evaluation System:

5.1 Which University body finalized the curriculum? The

composition of the body may be given.

(Board of Studies, Academic Council, Board of

    Management)

The process used in GDGU for

developing the curricula is as follows:-

After the inception of the university in

May 2013, an initial list of programs to

be offered in Academic Year 2013 2014

was prepared. The curricula weredeveloped by an expert committee

headed by Vice Chancellor with experts

    from all the offered

    programmes/disciplines.

These were later evaluated by the Board

of Studies of each school, which

    recommended the detailed programme

    structure and curricula to Academic

Council for its consideration. The final

    approval for all educational

Programmes is accorded by Board of

    Management.

    The compositions of University

    authorities/ bodies are provided in

    Appendix XVII.

5.2 What are the Rules/regulations/procedure for revision

of the curriculum and when was the curriculum last

    updated?

    The Guidelines for Curriculum

Development in GDGU are provided in

    Appendix C.

The last meeting of the Academic

Council was held on October 22, 2013, inwhich new programs and changes in

    curriculum were approved.

5.3 Whether approval of statutory bodies such as Board of

Studies Academic Council and the Board of

5.4 Furnish details of the following aspects of curriculum

design Innovation such as modular curricula

    Inter/multidisciplinary approach

As a part of continuous improvement in

providing high quality of education, G D

    Goenka University (GDGU) has taken

steps in this direction by offering high

quality programmes and introducing theFlexible Credit System (FCS) into its

    academic curriculum. While the

    programmes prepare students to be

    professionally competent, the FCS

enables students to register in courses of

their choice and decide their own pace of

learning within the broad framework of

    academic courses and credit

    requirements. They can register for

    8/85

    Page

    8

    of

    25

courses according to their interests and

    academic capability. FCS also allows

    students to develop their individualized

academic plan in consultation with the

    Faculty Advisers (Mentors). The

Mentors help students in identifying the

    courses based on Programme

    requirements, course pre-requisites,

students abilities and his/her interest invarious academic disciplines. Quality,

Flexibility, and Students success are the

    underlying imperatives of the FCS

initiative. Slow learners also have an

    opportunity to sustain their academic

progress through this approach as most

of the important courses are made

available to them during the Fall and

    Winter semesters.

    GDGU has introduced Inter

Disciplinary Projects in every semesterto all the students irrespective of their

schools/ programmes in order to prepare

them in a better way to face the real

world problems and demands. The inter-

    disciplinary projects aim at developing

the students skill sets like critical

    thinking, communication, soft skills,

team work, research etc. It aims to

develop a students knowledge of and

    appreciation of the (i) interdisciplinary

nature of knowledge and learning (ii)

    importance and value of integrating

    knowledge and perspectives from

multiple disciplines as a means to

    evaluating and understanding complex

    topics, problems, issues, phenomena, and

    events and (iii) competencies learned

during the educational process and to

apply these competencies in a real-world

application. Students are given an option

to choose the project of their choice from

the list of projects offered. All the

projects are inter disciplinary innature and hence essentially include

    participation from different

    programmes.

At GDGU, the degree requirements are

specified in the form of minimum

qualifying credits that a student must

earn to receive a degree. For example, all

    engineering programs require students

    of

    25

to successfully complete 190 credits. One

credit is earned by attending 10-12 hours

of lecture/ tutorial classes or 20-24 hours

of practical classes in a semester in

    addition to passing one end-semester

    examination. Typical courses consist of

    1, 2, 3 or 4 semester credits making the

    degree requirements completely

modular.5.5 Has the University conducted an academic audit? If

yes, please give details regarding frequency and its

    usage?

No, as its the first Academic Year of the

    University, however, university conducts

5.6 Apart from class room instruction, what other avenues

of learning provided for the students? (Example,

Projects Internships, Field Training, Seminars etc.)
