CURSOS DE ACTUALIZACIÓN DE CEMENTO

EUROPEAN CEMENT RESEARCH ACADEMY. ECRA ALTERNATIVE FUELS: QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL Lugar : Robilante, Italia Fecha : Del 24 al 25 de marzo, 2015 Objective: Overview of suitable pre-treatment techniques for different kinds of alternative fuels. The increasingly important aspect of comprehensive quality surveillance will be examined together with health and safety aspects.

Target Group: The seminar is targeted at senior process engineers and experienced chemists dealing with the use of alternative fuels. Practical experience in aspects of quality control would be helpful. Description: The environmentally safe and appropriate recovery of alternative materials in the cement manufacturing process is an issue of growing concern for the European cement industry. The revision of the European waste legislation will strengthen requirements further. On the one hand, the necessity to substitute primary materials (fossil fuels) with suitable alternatives will increase. On the other hand, the environmentally safe and proper operation of the process must be safeguarded. Product quality also has to be taken into account. The increase in

competition between recycling and energy recovery leads to a situation where suitable alternative materials are not always available on the market. This favours more and more sophisticated pre-treatment technologies for gaining suitable waste fuels from mixed fractions, but at the same time an appropriate quality surveillance system must be applied in order to safeguard environmentally friendly cement production. Furthermore, health and safety aspects and also public concerns increasingly have to be taken into consideration. The seminar includes a visit to the Buzzi Unicem cement plant in Robilante, Italy.

Presentations: Current legal requirements and latest

developments in the European waste legislation

Comprehensive pre-treatment of alternative fuels; Requirements of

modern pre-treatment technologies Implementation of a quality

surveillance system for alternative fuels on site

Process-integrated quality surveillance of alternative fuels

Health and safety aspects concerning the use of alternative fuels

Future aspects; Drivers and barriers for using alternative fuels.

TRENDS IN CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY

Lugar : Duesseldorf, Alemania Fecha : 25 de junio, 2015 Objective: For cement manufacturers to offer a market-driven portfolio it is essential to understand current and future customer and market demands. The aim of the seminar is to inform about and discuss current and anticipated developments and trends in the use of cement in concrete.

Target Group: R & D staff, sales and marketing staff. Description: The continuous reduction of the clinker content in cement has led to an improvement of the environmental performance of cement and concrete in particular with regard to the global warming potential. How can this approach be pursued further? Where are the technical limitations of this development? What impact does this trend have on the next generations of the European cement standard EN 197 and the European concrete standard EN 206? Where are the opportunities and challenges of performance-related design criteria for concrete? How do these developments

and the requirements and needs of the construction industry match? These and other questions will be addressed. Presentations: The European Concrete Standard EN

MULTISCALE MODELING COURSE FOR CONCRETE

Fecha: DEL 05 al 09 de octubre, 2015 Lugar: Darmstadt, Alemania http://www.citg.tudelft.nl/fileadmin/Faculteit/CiTG/Actueel/Symposia_en_Congressen/Events_Materials_and_Environment/CMC_-__MMC/doc/Compleet_MMC15_versie181114.1.pdf The RILEM Multi-scale Modelling Course for Concrete (MMC2) provides the opportunity for

participants to become familiar with modelling cementitious materials at four different levels of

detail. Different ways of schematization and numerical approaches are considered to simulate the

chemical, physical and mechanical behaviour of cementitious materials. The main back-bone of the

course are the different modelling levels at which heterogeneous and composite cementitious

materials can be schematized and how these different levels can “communicate” by means of

parameters passing methods or through upscaling models. The modelling levels that will be teached

in this course are the macro-, meso-, micro-, and nano-level. The course emphasizes the different

modelling approaches for each scale level and shows a couple of conceptual techniques on how

“numerical gaps” between scale levels can be bridged. The course is commencing at the macro-scale

level where emphasis is on early-age temperature and stresses development of hardening concrete,

and how commercial FEM software can be applied. The meso-level deals with fracture mechanics

and brittleness with emphasis on the Lattice model, followed by the micro-level which is on the

hydration and microstructure properties using pixel and vextor-based approaches, and finally, the

nano-level dealing wih the backgrounds of CSH gel using molecular dynamics and ab initio schemes.

For the course participants, the MMC2 course provides a chance to acquire a glance of the varieties

of numerical possibilities in an intensive course week of lectures and workshops. The course is set-up

in such a way that theoretical lectures and practical workshops alternate day by day and, besides

this, course participants are also invited to present themselves and their own work during an

elevator pitch talk. There will be a mix of events and topics centred around the theme of multi-scale

modelling that makes the course very “dynamic”.

Following the success of the past seven MMC2 courses organized so far (Delft 2008, Nanjing 2009,

Bilbao 2010, Delft 2011, Nanjing 2012, Delft 2013, Beijing 2014), this year the course will be

organized in Darmstadt, next to Frankfurt. The course will be co-organized by the Microlab of Delft

University of Technology and the Technical University of Darmstadt. Lecturers will be provided by

teachers from Delft University of Technology (Macro, meso and micro), Tecnali Spain (Nano

modeling), and the Technical University of Darmstadt (micro and transport modeling). The upscaling

lectures will be a joint contribution of teachers from TU Delft and TU Darmstadt. Models will be

presented that address all scale levels which makes the course a real multi-scale modelling course,

i.e. from macro - to - nano!

Summary Addressing lectures for macro- to nano- scale modelling. Theoretical and practical workshops on multi-scale modelling. Modelling mechanical, physical and chemical behaviour at different scale levels. Emphasizing different approaches of modelling and how “numerical gaps” can be bridged.

CEMENT FACTORY QUALITY CONTROL Fecha: 26 January, 13 April, 10 August, 09 November, 2015 Costo: The cost of the Cement Factory Quality Control online training course is: US$1000 A six-week modular course exploring the quality control of cement manufacture, including the different quality control challenges faced by different cement factories around the world, plus the philosophies, testing, tools and equipment used to address those quality control challenges. Module 1 explores the quality control challenge presented by cement manufacture. Cement is a hydraulic binder used in conjunction with other materials whose performance can only inferred and predicted during its manufacture. As a consequence there is an overriding requirement to minimise variability in material composition and processing throughout the manufacturing process. Quality assurance systems must be developed to control the composition of all inputs to the manufacturing process and all processing conditions. Cement products may be developed for multiple applications but the requirement to minimise variation remains paramount. Module 2 – Statistical process control (SPC) relies on the centering of quality targets on the requirements of the customer or application, followed by the reduction of the variation about those targets to ensure that non-compliant material is never produced. It is therefore the methodology to be used in the quality control of cement manufacture and the main topic of module 2 of the course. This use of statistical process control needs to extend far beyond the laboratory and composition testing of the materials. It needs to be extended to control the manufacturing conditions within the process. Progressive reduction of variation using SPC techniques leads to the continuous improvement which is demanded of all quality management systems. Module 3 we explore the detail of the quality control throughout the cement manufacturing process. Raw material chemistry control and raw mix design, kiln feed particle size and reactivity control, clinker real mineralogy control via microscopy or XRD. Cement surface area and particle size distribution, gypsum dehydration and calcium sulphate mineralogy, extender quality and storage or transportation considerations. Finally the physical testing of cement to ensure that the manufacturing quality control addresses the needs of the cement in its concrete and mortar applications. CEMENT FACTORY MAINTENANCE

Fecha 06 April, 20 July, 19 October, 2015

Costo: The cost of the Cement Factory Maintenance online training course is: US$1000. A 6 week modular course exploring the maintenance of cement factories, including the different maintenance challenges faced by different cement factories around the world, the assessment of cement manufacturing equipment condition, common maintenance and reliability problems, their solution and the organization of the maintenance function on a cement factory. Course Content Module 1 the course explores the different maintenance challenges presented by cement factories, dependent on their scale, location, number of lines operated and vintage. Also the ways in which maintenance will be judged, not only from the availability of the equipment and the costs of maintenance, but also from the overall equipment effectiveness. Availability of spare parts will make a vital contribution to the effectiveness of maintenance, but what level of spare parts can or should be provided? Many factors which will impact on the effectiveness of maintenance throughout the life of the cement factory are determined when the factory is laid out and the equipment is designed. These factors need to be taken into consideration when cement factories are first established as they will never be able to be changed in the future. Module 2 of the course the inter-related issues of cement factory condition assessment, common problems and their resolution are explored. Cement kilns must operate for long, continuous campaigns to minimise their thermal energy consumption. In order to do this, their mechanical condition must be regularly assessed and adjusted, if necessary, to prevent long-term damage and the requirement for major repair involving massive loss of time and clinker production. A cement kiln is in fact an assemblage of inter-connected sub-systems which must all

operate reliably. The kiln is only as reliable as the weakest of these sub-systems, so the raw meal preparation, kiln feed system, fuel preparation and delivery, clinker cooling and transport and the exhaust gas venting and dedusting systems are all expected to operate for these long campaigns. There will be some overtaking capacity in some of these sub-systems allowing limited time for maintenance, but all will be expected to give reliable performance. In the final module of the course the theories of maintenance organisation, as they relate to cement factories, are explored. What is the role of breakdown, preventive and condition based maintenance in cement factories? How do approaches such as Total Productive Maintenance and Reliability Centred Maintenance apply to cement factories? What changes on the organisation of maintenance and the skills of the maintenance personnel are required to implement these changes in cement factory maintenance philosophy? Computerised maintenance management systems make a vital contribution to these approaches to maintenance and are a prerequisite for the effective maintenance of a modern cement factory. Course Material

Throughout the course the lectures are supplemented with exercises allowing participants to relate the course material to their cement factories, or the cement factories of their clients in the case of equipment or service suppliers to the cement industry. Certification is achieved by completing a satisfactory level of exercises, and by end of module exams.

The course is complete with downloadable

handouts of the lectures, exercises, and reading material for the training record.

WHITE CEMENT MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY

Fecha: 23 February, 07 September, 2015

Costo: The cost of the White Cement Manufacturing Technology on-line training course is: US$ 800.

This 6 week online training course will be suitable for employees of white cement manufacturing companies, those who are considering manufacturing white cement, and employees of companies supplying equipment, goods and services to white cement manufacturers. Module 1 - Will cover the applications and composition of white cement. At the outset students will need to know what we are making and why. White cement is an Ordinary Portland cement, as is grey cement, but with the defining characteristic of its whiteness. It is a niche product that finds application in prestige projects where the appearance of mortar or concrete is important. In many applications it provides a surface finish as flooring, precast panels, mortar screeds or even white cement based paints, rather than structural concrete. We will talk about some of these applications in a dedicated session of this Module 1. As whiteness is the defining characteristic of white cement we will also consider whiteness and whiteness measurement in a dedicated session of module 1. Module 2 - Will consider raw materials for white cement manufacture and their Processing Module 3 & 4 - will consider the pyro processing of white cement clinker where the key differences from grey cement manufacture are found. Module 5 - we will consider the finish grinding of white cement and also the typical organization and management of a white cement factory. Module 6 - we will review the white cement industry and players around the world. Again we will highlight the differences with the grey cement industry. And speculate on how the white cement industry might develop in the future.
