All Aboard Training Course aims to improve the leadership andfacilitation skills of youth workers, in order to empower them in theirwork with youth entrepreneurship. This unique training will take place in 2 different settings: offshore ina Youth Hostel and aboard the Caravel “Vera Cruz” – an exact replicaof one of the caravels used by the Portuguese sailors in the XV andXVI century.

  Improve your skills for clear and impactful communication,expressing needs and giving clear feedback;

  Develop further facilitation skills and share best practices throughleading educational sessions;

  Increase your capacity for self-reflection & self-assessment;

  Become a powerful team player.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

ABOUT THE PROJECT

After the TC we expect the participants to be involved at 2 levels:

  Project implementation    We want to have your personal story on how you implemented yourlearning points from the TC into your work with young people, specificallyon how you implemented it in the project you will develop/implement 3months after the TC

  YE preparation    The last part of this project will include a Youth Exchange in September2018. We expect you to get involved in the preparation of the participantsof the YE, namely by supporting them into creating activities that they willlead during this program. Additionally, you have the unique opportunityto participate in the YE as a group leader.

PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS

Youth worker/leader/mentor/project coordinator

Minimum of 6 months experience leading young people

Will lead a project/activity with young people in the 3months after the TC

Willing to participate on a very intensive program: takingpart on the program activities plus being part of the crewof the Vera Cruz

 Coming from Greece, Hungary, Lithuania and Portugal

Arrival & Welcome - 20th August Start of the Program - 21st August

Departure - 30th August

DATES AND PROGRAM

Day 1 - Self-awareness & Mindfulness The basis for leading groups starts with acknowledging how you

usually work, what are your patterns, what challenges do you face. We will also focus on setting learning goals.

Day 2 - Group Dynamics Understanding how groups work, what can support them and your

impact in these dynamics.

Day 4 - Coaching tools Good facilitation & leadership requires giving space for participants

to explore, to find their own answers. We will use tools fromcoaching to support you intro creating these guiding context.

Day 3 - Communication The day will be all about how you communicate (your needs & styles)

& how you can become even more effective and impactful. We will focus on all three levels of communication: non-verbal, vocal

and verbal.

DATES AND PROGRAM

Day 5 to 7 - Modelling / Building a Learning Community This will be the time to put into practice what you learnt from the TC

in combination with your working expertise. Together with the other participants you will have to create an

engaging learning community. This part will take aboard the Caravela Vera Cruz, which means you

will be sailing.

Day 9 - Final Steps Every journey has its ending.

During this day we will close the TC and it will involve: presentingthe manual, final reflection, follow-up agreements and closing

ceremony.

Day 8 - Reflecting on the Modeling This day will be there to reflect on the Modeling part and share the

knowledge by creating a manual of best practices all together. We will use this manual for promotion and to inspire & support youth

workers/leaders across Europe.

WHERE?

You will be hosted in the Almada Youth Hostel, just outside Lisbon. Located on the Southern banks of the Tagus River, you have the opportunity to

take in a panoramic view of the whole of Lisbon, while you calmly sip on acoffee or relax and unwind curled up with a good book.

You will be sleeping in a room of 4 people, with shared  WC. There is Wi-Fi internet connection available.

This is an exact replica of the caravels used bythe Portuguese in the XV century.

You will become part of the crew, starting withhoisting the sails, helping on the galley and

even clean the ship! Everyone will be sleepingin the same room, that is also the place where

we eat all together.  You can expect to work and live in a wonderful

community. We e want you to feel welcome and

comfortable, so, if you have any special dietaryneeds you should tell us in advance.

Remember: there are no supermarkets on the ocean!

Almada Youth Hostel

Afonso Bértolo Afonso is a worldwide freelance educator, with a Master Degreein Clinical Psychology. Since 2009 he has been actively involved in non-formaleducation, youth work and community building in Europe andWest Africa. His main areas of work are personal development,coaching with a strong focus on body awareness, EVSmentoring, inclusion of fewer opportunities, communication,media as an educational tool and project management.

TRAINERS

Marta Martins With more than 6 years of experience as a mentor and sailtrainer onboard several Tall Ships, Marta has mentored morethan 1500 trainees, between the ages of 13 and 75, fromdifferent countries, promoting international understanding,cultural exchange and team work. She's an active member of Aporvela, the Portuguese SailTraining Organization and crew member of Caravela Vera Cruz.Marta is the Portuguese Representative at the Youth Council ofthe Sail Training International.   She has a Degree in Human Resources  Management. 

Inês Cunha Inês has been a trainer for more than 5 years of experience inthe field of non-formal education. She completed her Mastersin Human Resources Management and has the PortugueseCertificate of Pedagogical Competencies.  Inês took part in several organisations in the area of HRManagement; she coordinated training projects in severaluniversities and has been member of ESN (Erasmus StudentNetwork) since 2012. She has been sailor since the age of 14, and has experience insail training as participant, since 2005.

There is a contribution of 70€ per person to the program. Weare open for alternative ways of contribution. Money should notbe an obstacle for participation.

REIMBURSEMENTS

We will only reimburse the amount spent on your travel. If you spendmore than the limit, it is up to you to cover the difference.

Please keep all your tickets, invoices and boarding passes. They are allnecessary for reimbursement and we cannot give back your moneyotherwise.

Only after receiving confirmation of participation you can book yourticket. Please inform the organisers about your arrival and departure time.

Only the participants who stay for the full duration of the TC will bereimbursed.

For each country, we will make a single transfer to a bank account agreedby the participants.
