Shelly Hill will be out of office Oct 4-18, 2018 Skloud Riley’s last day in the housing department will be October 19, 2018. Housing Committee Meeting (Council Chambers or Health board room) -Friday October 19, 2018

Dates to Remember

New Projects

Housing has two major projects on the go now, one at 467 Chippewa Rd and the other is 311 East River Rd. The site on Chippewa is being cleared out for construction to commence soon with total grant funding received from INAC being $684,400. The renovations on East River Road are near completion. The unit on East River Road is a five bedroom with full basement that will be rented out to a community member’s family. Please These units will be ready to rent soon.

April 1 – March 31, 2018

Funding has been depleted and there will be no more housing assistance form the housing department to band members.

Outstanding Loans & Mortgages Reminder that there will be no loans or assistance to band members for repairs and maintenance to existing houses on reserve, as there is not enough money being generated from housing payments. If you want to make repayment arrangements, please contact the housing office.

Reminder that there is NO RRAP BUDGET FOR CHIPPEWA

Housing Budget

Five Year Housing Plan Development Our Community faces a lot of difficult challenges with housing such as members breaking windows, doors, walls and doors. The committee is challenged with the questions of “Who is paying for these damages?”. Is it the band or the community member, or the home owner or is it the renter? This is what the committee will continue to work on.

Housing Committee

At this time, I want to acknowledge Skloud Riley/Intern and Catlin Kechego/Maintenance Intern who both started in April with Catlin’s last day in September and Skloud’s in October. CMHC sponsors youth like these two so they can gain experience of how the community functions and to learn administrative tasks. Skloud has taken training about letter writing, minute taking, some construction and inspection skills, he has also met with many band members. Skloud has also obtained grants from the Federal Government to help seniors with ramps and walk in showers. Catlin has also worked very hard and has met with many senior band members. We want to thank and wish these two youths all the best in their future endeavors.

St ANDREW’S CHURCH OCTOBER NEWS Parish Priest Rev Canon Gaye Whippey

Boozhoo, As I drive out to Chippewa, I notice that Mother Earth is sharing

her blessings with us and this is the month we see harvesting all around us

and give special thanks for the gift. As we observe the changes that are

happening in the trees, we are like the Fall leaves, slowly being changed, so

that the rich colours of our lives will become a reflection of Jesus’ presence.

Blessings, Gaye+

OTHER HAPPENINGS

THANK YOU!! to those who are helping us to have a functioning

washroom. Unfortunately a blockage, difficult to reach, has meant a few

cancellations. We are meeting the challenge with faith and hope and

need some help. We are gifted with a beautiful church for prayer and

sacrament but we also want to help as much as possible in the

community. We were very happy this Summer to send 9 children to

Huron Church Camp for a week and were blessed by the funding

support that came from other churches in the Diocese, enabling us to

send them all.

FUNDRAISER to help with Bathroom repairs. Saturday October 6th

Meet at church for prayer 9 45 am and then we will go to different corners.

Contact Rev Gaye if you can help. Thank you!
