• What is infection? - The process of infecting or the state of being infected. a. Invasion by and multiplication of pathogenic microorganisms in a bodily part or tissue, which may produce subsequent tissue injury and progress to overt disease through a variety of cellular or toxic mechanisms. b. An instance of being infected. c. An agent or a contaminated substance responsible for one's becoming infected. d. The pathological state resulting from having been infected.

GENERAL NSG CARE FOR CLIENTS W/ INFECTION
1. Increase Host Defense against Infection
• Maintain integrity of skin, mucous membranes (1st line of defense) & other defense mechanisms (coughing, acidic pH)
• Provide adequate hydration, nutrition, rest & sleep

2. Precautions to prevent spread of infection
• Frequent & proper handwashing;
• wear gown,
• gloves,
• mask, &
• eyewear when needed; reverse isolation (if immunocompromised);
• correct disposal of contaminated materials

3. Eliminate Microbiologic Agent
• Use of disinfection,
• sterilization,
• antimicrobial drugs

4. Monitor VS, especially temperature(fever)

• Via spores in soil thru: dirty, open wounds
• Prolong & sever muscle spasms

• Ventilation: suction & O2; ET set & ventilator on standby

RABIES(Hydrophobia)
• Rhabdovirus bite of infected animal spreads to CNS
• Causing: irritability, paresthesia, hydrophobia, & seizure
• INTERVENTIONS:
• Clean wound
• Administer; rabies Ig (passive), diploid cell vaccine(active)
• Seizure precaution & ventilation
