INVITATION TO CHRISM MASS Bishop Curtis J. Guillory, S.V.D., invites you to attend the Chrism Mass that Bishop will concelebrate with all the priests of the Diocese of Beaumont on Tuesday of Holy Week, March 27, 2018. The Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, at 6:30 PM. At this prayerful and memorable experience Bishop will bless the Oil of the Sick and the Oil of Catechumens and consecrate the Sacred Chrism. These oils will be sent to every parish and prison and hospital chaplain for use throughout the year. In addition, during the Chrism Mass all the priests will, with Bishop and the Assembly, renew their priestly promises. The Chrism Mass manifests the diversity of the Body of Christ in the Diocese of Beaumont as seen in the many cultures participating, in the liturgical ministers and in the music. The Chrism Mass is a most prayerful way to journey through Holy Week. There will be NO 6:00pm Mass here at Infant Jesus on March 27th.

Note from Pastor: The General Instruction for the Roman Missal has this instruction for the Fifth Sunday in Lent: “In the Dioceses of the United States, the practice of covering crosses and images throughout the Church from this Sunday may be observed. Crosses remain covered until the end of the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday…” But why do we veil our images, and why today? The veiling is an ancient liturgical tradition to mark the period of time known as “Passiontide”—the time when we prepare and focus intensely on the suffering and death of Jesus. The veiling gives us a sense of the absence that Mary and the disciples felt as Jesus was taken away from them, arrested, and crucified. In the traditional liturgy, this Fifth Sunday in Lent is known as Passion Sunday. The Gospel reading is the account of Jesus going to the Cross, so the veiling today draws us deeper into that mystery. When the current ordinary liturgy came into use in the late 1960s, Passion Sunday was joined to next week’s observance of Palm Sunday, which is now known by the combined name of “Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion.” The veiling of images today, however, is a reminder that the sacred time of the Lord’s suffering and resurrection victory are close at hand. May the Lord grant us the grace to observe these upcoming holy days with a spirit of reverence and devotion for by His Cross and Resurrection, He has redeemed the world! Fr. Andy

SAVED BY GOD’S LOVE Because the people broke the old covenant, God promised a new covenant, not in the blood of oxen and other animals, but in the blood of the Son, Jesus Christ. This new covenant, foreseen from afar by Jeremiah and the prophets, was not to be engraved on stone, or written on paper, but carved on our hearts, so that we might know God intimately. Not by keeping many laws are we to be saved, but by the love of God, living and real in our hearts through the sacrifice of Christ. Our Eucharist is the pledge of that indwelling of Christ, and of our response of praise and thanksgiving to God for the mercy, love, and kindness shown to us in forgiving our sins and cleansing our hearts of everything evil. God issues this invitation to intimacy by offering us the chance to have our sufferings transformed into the perfect love of the Savior, who first loved us. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
