Note from Pastor: We are presenting the Kasese Project at all the Infant Jesus Masses this weekend. This project grew out of a social media friendship between Deacon Keen and a seminarian from the Diocese of Kasese in Uganda, Africa. The Church in sub-Saharan Africa is experiencing a springtime. Lots of growth with new Christians embracing the faith, lots of women entering religious life as nuns and sisters, and lots of seminarians. We have been able to learn about the dozens of seminarians who are studying for the priesthood in Kasese. Most of them come from impoverished families and have to work side jobs to pay their seminary tuition. Some are farmers or brick makers or other trades. Many of them are unable to pursue the priesthood because they are unable to afford even the small tuition. Another problem is transportation. Many seminarians live in rural, isolated mountainous areas. It is hard to get their on motorcycles or even regular cars in the rainy season with dirt or shale roads. That’s where we come in. The Bishop of Kasese tells us the best way we can support vocations is by helping the diocese buy a 4-wheel drive vehicle to help with seminarian transportation, as well as reaching isolated areas for Mass. We undertake this project with the understanding and well wishes of our own bishop as well. “The Church is One”! That is our guiding motto for this project. We benefit from the ministry of African priests in our diocese, as well as recently in our own parish with the ministry of Fr. Basil Aguzie a few years ago. More and more, as we struggle to find enough priests, we will benefit from missionaries from the growing churches in Africa, like Kasese. We will also benefit from the prayers of the strong faith of the people and seminarians of Kasese. If we can help one young man embrace the priesthood then we will be spiritually involved with every Mass, Baptism, and Reconciliation he offers in his life. Thank you for considering your own participation in this project of solidarity and unity. --Fr. Andy
