DRAFT TUBE AND DRAFT TUBE CONE

The draft tube consists of drafttube cone and the draft tube steel platelining.

The draft tube cone is a welded steelplate design and consists of two parts, the

lower and upper cone. The inlet part of theupper cone is made of stainless steel. Thelower part is designed as a dismantling pieceand is mounted to a flange on the draft tube

bend top. It is provided with one manholefor inspection of the runner from below.

The draft tube lining is completely embeddedin concrete.

STAY RING & SCROLL CASING

. The stay ring consists of an upper and a lower ring to which the stay vanes (20 nos.) are welded. The stay vanes are given a favourable hydraulic shape to conduct the water towards the guide vanes with minimal losses.

The stay vanesalso carry the axial forcesinside the scroll casing..

This part of theturbine housed andsupported the Servomotorand other piping of theturbine.

It is installed andleveled at the top of stayring

The pit liner ensuresthe protection of theturbine pit and installationof components such aswalkways, pipes, etc

It is made of weldedsheet steel of 10mm thick.

GUIDE VANE CASCADE

The guide vane cascadeis shown in the adjacentfigure. The openings of theguide vanes are adjustable bythe regulating ring, the linksand levers.

The vanes are shapedaccording to hydraulic designspecifications and given asmooth surface finish. Thebearings of the guide vaneshafts are self-lubricated.

TURBINE COVERS

The covers are bolted to the stay ring ofthe scroll casing. They are designed forhigh stiffness to keep the deformationscaused by the water pressure at aminimum..

The upper and lower cover facingsadjacent to the guide vanes are linedwith high tension stainless steel. Theseare fastened to the covers with screws.

The covers are supporting the guide vanetrunnion bearings. The upper coversupports also the regulating ring bearing,the labyrinth ring, the turbine bearingand the shaft seal box. The lower coversupports the draft tube and the labyrinthring.

TURBINE SHAFT

The shaft is forgedcarbon steel properly heattreated. The shaft is hollowstructure with Integralcoupling flanges forcoupling with runner andgenerator shaft

Friction couplingis provided between therunner and the turbineshaft, and between turbineand generator shaft. Thetwo surfaces are squeezedby the mean of elongationpre-stressed bolts.

Runner: The rotating component of a turbine in which energy conversion takes place.

The runner is cast welded fabricated construction of stainless steel 13Cr-4 Ni. The runner torque is transferred to the turbine shaft through a bolted friction joint.

The crown and band are fitted with liner so that minimum leakage is achieve between the rotating parts and stationery part.

SHAFT SEAL

Shaft seal is AxialHydrostatic Type. The working shaftseal ensure that the spinning partsare sealed from the pressurizedwater circulating around therunner. In addition there is alsomaintenance seal which is usedwhen the machine stop.

The working seal is designed tohave maim leakage of 100l/min.

The seal is made of phenolic resin.

TURBINE GUIDE BEARING

The turbine guide bearing isof Shell type in two parts, lined withbabbit metal. It is fitted to two partsflange having radial holes for oil. Thebearing metal is immersed in oil in arotating sump which is fastenedsecurely to the turbine shaft. Thebearing shell is strongly supported andbolted to the turbine head cover. Thecooling is from the oil in the sump andno external cooling is needed.

The temperature of bearingmetal and bearing oil will not exceed70 degrees and 65 degreescentrigrade.

Lubricating oil grade will be ISO VG-46or equivalent.

MAIN INLET VALVE

The main inlet valve ofthe butterfly type is forshutting-off pressure watersupply from the penstock tothe turbine spiral casing. It ishydraulically operated. Itconsist also companionflanges, dismantling joint,bypass, drain and air bleedervalves, operating mechanism..In the closed position thevalve shall be leak tight.

The normal flow througheach Butterfly valve is 37.17m3/s.

1 The generator is umbrella type with combined thrust and guide bearing located

below the rotor.

2 The guide bearing are segment type,12 in number. The thrust bearing is

Kingsbury type with 12 pads.

3 The rotor comprises the hub, spider, rim, fans and the 24 poles with their

windings.The poles are mounted on a pole spider, which is a welded, spoke

wheel. The spider is mounted on the forged steel shaft. Damper bars are built in

the pole faces.

4 The stator core is built with a slotted, laminated iron core that is supported by a

welded steel frame suitably for rigidity.

5 The stator winding is bar type insulated throughout with class ‘F’ insulation

6 8 nos Air Coolers are used for forced-air cooling of stator with an air-to-water heat

exchanger

7 A pneumatic brake and hydraulic jacks are housed at bottom of rotor

8 The generator foundations and housing (barrel) is made of concrete.
