With Pfizer’s recent merger with Wyeth, we saw our contract headcount grow from 500 to 700 in the space of 12 months (through the rolling in of incumbent legacy Wyeth contractors, rolling in of contractors previously not managed by us but mostly through pure growth recruitment). During this time, we implemented a solution to make us the sole MSP provider for Pfizer. Part of this involved adjusting our commercial model to run an exclusivity contract with regard to the scientific area previously managed by SRG as a separate MSP to give them a lead time to fill before the rest of the suppliers. This mutually beneficial partnership helped us successfully take over the scientific MSP for Pfizer in July 2010 (taking on 100 contractors). Tailored Solutions To streamline the CV review process for Pfizer Managers, we have worked with them to develop a customised CV cover sheet which summarises the skills and data they consider most relevant so it can be seen at the front of each CV, minimising the time it takes to assess each candidate. To ensure quality, we have a 24 hour hold put on CVs as we have found that closing the requirement so submittals cannot be received for 24 hours ensures the focus is to submit the best quality candidates rather than to submit the fastest response. Suppliers can take this time to phone our on-site team for any clarifications. Also, we have a limit of 2 CV submittals per supplier (though our process is of course flexible, and can be adjusted depending on the role, for example when sourcing niche requirements). OPERATIONAL RESULTS - Ongoing cost savings year on year: since the outset of the program, annual benchmarking exercises have shown Pfizer to be paying on average 5% below market rate for contractors - A score of 97.3% is shown in the latest benchmarking survey for the overall satisfaction with contractor quality for the MSP - Cost savings through standardising margins and PAYE costs, hard rate savings and elimination of “maverick” spend - Savings in excess of £1.1 M in the UK from Jan - Dec 2010 - Reduced time/cost for training new starters through improved communications - Streamlined administrative processes through best use of technology (integration with financial and purchasing systems) - Consolidated invoicing (currently only 12 invoices a week for 700 contractors) - Consultative relationship regarding security processes, and ongoing monitor- ing of compliance - Vendor management and optimisation Pfizer C A S E S T U D Y
