Introductions1. Jeff Smith – Professor at Auburn University2. Sebastian Urbina – Director of Supply Chain

Innovation at Barkawi(a Genpact company)3. Manuel Remehle – Principal Expert Process

Simulation at Bayer AG4. Dennis Pegden – Founder & CEO of Simio LLC

Jeff has taught simulation at the graduate and undergraduate levels and consulted on simulation-related project for 30 years. In addition to his academic positions, he is also a Founding Partner at Conflexion LLC and serves on the Board of Directors of the Winter Simulation Conference. Jeff is co-author of the textbook Simio and Simulation: Modeling, Analysis, Applications, currently in its 5th edition. He has Ph. D. and M.S. degrees in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University, and a B.I.E. from Auburn University. Jeff is is a Fellow of the Institute for Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE) and a senior member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS)

Sebastian is a supply chain professional with +10 years working +40 companies in a variety of industries (CPG, automotive, retail, high tech, pharmaceutical, rental, life sciences, semiconductor, industrial goods) focusing on solving complex supply chain problems with an OR/Statistics bent. Extensive experience in designing and implementing technology to facilitate supply chain transformations. Deep supply chain science knowledge having developed inventory optimization and profit maximizing algorithms, solved network design optimization challenges, and supply chain analytics/KPIs. Expert in forecasting and demand planning, having created custom machine learning and best fit algorithms in R. Cross cultural understanding having worked and lived in Europe, Asia, North America and Latin America.

Manuel is a Chemical Engineer with a strong background in computer-aided process engineering. He is with Bayer for 13 years and worked on projects involving data-analytics, advanced process control, and dynamic simulation of various forms. He is responsible to align strategy and steer innovation in the area of modeling and simulation; covering chemical process development, product life-cycle management, the optimization of manufacturing processes and facilities, as well as production scheduling. He is also the coordinator of an EU funded research project (3 years, 15 partners) on integrated process control and sensing for flexible modular plants and now also responsible for shaping the modeling and simulation strategy at Bayer AG. Manuel also serves on the Simio Industry 4.0 Customer Advisory Board.

Dennis Pegden was the founder and CEO of Systems Modeling Corporation, later purchased by Rockwell Automation. He has held faculty positions at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and The Pennsylvania State University. He led in the development of the SLAM, SIMAN, Arena, and Simio simulation tools. He has co-authored three simulation textbooks and has published papers in a number of fields including mathematical programming, queuing, computer arithmetic, scheduling, and simulation

Industry 4.0 – Forbes DefinitionIndustry 4.0 optimizes the computerization of Industry 3.0When computers were introduced in Industry 3.0, it was disruptive thanks to the addition of an entirely new technology. Now, and into the future as Industry 4.0 unfolds, computers are connected and communicate with one another to ultimately make decisions without human involvement.

A combination of cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things and the Internet of Systems make Industry 4.0 possible and the smart factory a reality. As a result of the support of smart machines that keep getting smarter as they get access to more data, our factories will become more efficient and productive and less wasteful. Ultimately, it's the network of these machines that are digitally connected with one another and create and share information that results in the true power of Industry 4.0.

Now, and into the future as Industry 4.0 unfolds, computers are connected and communicate with one another to ultimately make decisions without human involvement.
