Yagibushi (Summer) Festival Held

New 2005 CD

The festival is very popular withOgura employees but to limit the amountof employees participating, Ogurarestricts the entrance to only those withless than three years experience.

Although a good time was had byall, no prizes went to Ogura this year.(Maybe next year Karaoke should beincluded in the hiring process).

When two brothers came upwith the idea for a better outboardmotor eight years ago, little did theyknow their company would be in themiddle of the courageous efforts tosave lives in the aftermath ofHurricane Katrina.

Pro Drive Outboard, located inL o r e a u v i l l e ,Louisiana, designsand manufacturesshallow water out-board motors andboats specificallyfor use in the bay-ous, swamplandsand marshesacross the country. The brothers, K.P.and Brian Provost, decided they hadto do something tohelp fellowLouisianans afterthe hurricane, and

sent six boat and motor combinationsto New Orleans, along with 6 ProDrive employees. Amid the confusion, they were turned back. Determined toparticipate in some capacity, they pro-vided two boatsand motors to res-cue workers fromArizona. These twoboats alone wereresponsible for res-cuing over 100 peo-ple from a retire-ment home. Theyadditionally provid-ed 6 more boats andmotors for efforts inSlidell, one of thehardest hit areas in the New Orleansarea.

The unique design of the Pro Driveoutboard allows the operator to tra-verse terrain that ordinarily would be

inaccessible with a conventionalmotor/boat combination. At times thiscan be only a few inches of water. Thisdesign features a gas engine whichdrives a vertical shaft into a gear hous-ing. An output shaft, located at about120 degrees from vertical, directlydrives the propeller. The size of theprop, combined with orientation, notonly allows shallow water travel, butsufficient speeds in deep water.

When Pro Drive engineers selecteda 32hp engine with a 1” crankshaft asthe outboard’s power plant, maneuver-ability and handling were concerns.

Inthe case ofa commercial user, this feature allowsthe operator to position the boat accu-rately to set and collect traps or nets onthe go, saving time and gasoline. To aduck hunter, it means positioning theboat in their favorite spot without theneed to muscle the boat through themud by standing and “poling”. Ratedat 250 ft. lb. of torque in a compact size, the GT4C transfers torque to the pro-peller without slippage, providingpower the instant it’s required.Additionally, the clutch saves wear andtear on the engine, since it is not beingstarted and stopped as frequently.

The Ogura line of General Purposeclutches are rated at 110 ft. lb. through350 ft. lb. and feature bore sizes from 11/8” through 1/7/16” diameters. Visitour website at www.ogura-clutch.com.

New Higher Torque General PurposeClutches Released

Ogura Industrialfrom the staff ofHappyAutumn

With the success of the 350ft. lb. GT5clutch/brake being used in mowing applications,Ogura Engineering has converted thisclutch/brake unit into a clutch only unit to be usedfor general purpose applications.

This clutch is rated at a torque capacity of350ft. lbs. and utilizes a double bearing field con-struction which gives superior performance in heavyvibration, high temperature and high speed applica-tions. To transmit the torque, a two groove V belt pul-ley comes standard as part of the clutch assembly. The clutch comes fully assembledwhich makes installation extremely easy. Although the clutch is normally manufac-tured with the two groove B section pulley. Other pulley configurations are possible.

The clutch is made to mount directly on gas or diesel engines up to 35 horsepow-er. This cost effective clutch is already finding its way into a number of industrieswhere it is desirable to couple the load from a gas or diesel engine. Agricultural, con-struction, marine and utility markets have all found applications for this clutch. If youlike any additional information on this clutch or any of the other general purposeOgura clutches, please refer to the website or contact your local sales representative.
