Industrial engineering is a branch of engineering dealing with the optimization

of complex process or systems by design ,improve and integrate the units of

engineering system which consists of people, material, information, money,

equipment's and energy.

It also known as the overlap of, operations management, management science,

operations research, systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, ergonomics

with human factors engineering, safety engineering or others

Industrial EngineeringIndustrial engineering is unique according to the following points:

1)It is differentiated from the combination of engineering ,statistics, social and

economic sciences

2) Its application is not only about finding solutions for specific problems but

extended to find the optimal solutions according to the reality and how it can be

applied into the real works.

Page 4: Industrial engineering

Industrial EngineeringWhere can industrial engineering work?

-Industrial engineering is not linked with the industries only or production ,also it

linked with service sector

-Working in airports as a scheduler for airlines flights

-Study the feasibility of a business plan study in a financial company

-Improve the production and the logistics in the petroleum companies

-Doing the statistical analysis for the different operations to increase the

productivity and the performance of the company

-Working as a health and safety engineer in many companies

-Working as a quality engineer who is responsible for keeping the quality level of

the company at high levels

All these can be done through the decreasing or limiting the resources of waste

and the optimum use of budget, human resources , energy …..etc.

In order to get bachelor degree in industrial engineering:

University requirement : 12 credit

Collage requirement : 35 credit

Department requirement: 89 credit

-the first two years subjects is about math and physics subjects

-the third year subjects is almost similar with mechanical engineering

My work In sultan Qaboos university:

- Working on a project for budget estimation using forecasting techniques by using

some statistical software

-Also a project about to do scheduling of jobs on specific machines which is called

job shop scheduling

-the target of this project is to find an optimal time which is the

minimum time to complete all the operations required for all the jobs

-m –machines

-J- jobs
