No Man’s Sky is the one game on this list that I am more excited to see developed than I am excited to play. This incredibly ambitious title is probably the most anticipated indie game for the industry, but I just don’t know what to think yet. What will we do in that vast universe, what will we see, and will it be any fun? I can’t wait to see how this game turns out.

Cuphead is an action-platformer inspired by 1930’s cartoons, so it will

be one of those incredibly divisive games that will either tickle your fancy or turn you off because of its incredibly unique art style. I, for one, am sincerely grateful that this developer was willing to take a risk, and I cannot wait to bask in all its creative goodness.

The Witness is Braid Creator Jonathan Blow’s upcoming 3D world exploration puzzle game. It’s all about taking things slowly, exploring a world and chipping away at a set of puzzles that will allow you to continue to explore the world. Braid has incredibly intelligent puzzle design and what we have seen from The Witness so far suggests it’ll be very similar. Personally, I don’t even mind if every get through all the puzzles, that world looks like a really nice place to slowly explore.

Thankfully moving beyond rectangles... as mindblowing as they were; Volume is based on one of my kids' various mythical heroes: Robin Hood or rather, a Mister Robert of Locksley, Nottinghamshire.

Another 3rd person-er on the list, this game features labyrinths, stealth design and nothing too reminiscent of Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine given the top-down 3D visual persepctives offered. And especially because we don't parlons française and the hilarious voices of the legendary Charlie McDonnell and Danny Wallace feature this time round.

When Broken Age: Act 1 released in early 2014 I was super impressed with it’s narrative. From a pair of heroic protagonists who defied the expected plot arcs most creators would have set them to n ending that turned the whole first act on it’s head, Broken Age got off to a spectacular start.

Broken Age: Act 2 has a lot to live up to. The first act ended on such an amazing cliff hanger that the second act may have a hard time ending in such a satisfying manner. Regardless, I am incredibly excited to see the continuation of such a fascinating and well

handled plot.

Firewatch is the debut effort from the folks at Campo Santo, a studio comprised of some of the best minds from Telltale, Klei, and the revered Idle Thumbs podcast, among others. This story-based game takes place along an open forest, in which main character Henry keeps watch for forest fires during a particularly dry summer.

Firewatch is a single-player first-person video game where you, as a man named Henry, explore the Wyoming wilderness after taking a summer job as a fire lookout. What is supposed to be a peaceful respite from your complicated life takes a turn when you start to question some of the things that are happening to you.
