Indicator Cock

Use

The indicator cock is used to check

1. Whether there is any water present in the unit if engine is standalone for long time. 2. Used to release the air if we have to turn the engine for any reason (eg. Checking the scavenging

spaces, adjusting the fuel pump timing, adjusting the alpha lubricator, major or top OH)3. Make power card

I was on Cargo watch 8 to 12 hrs. Second informed me that he have to change the indicator cock. He gave me the OH indictor cock. I changed the no. 2 and 3 unit indicator cock. The tools that I used are following.

1. 18 MM spanner X 022. Copa Slip (Copper compound slip) used to prevent seizure3. Torch4. Not required (another person for small assistance)5. Gloves

Procedure

1. Remove the nut and bolt 18MM spanner is required for this purpose2. Remove the gasket3. Clean the debris, carbon by cloth4. Inspect the faces of gasket and indicator cock which you have to use. 5. Apply the Copa slip to mating surfaces. 6. Now place the indicator cock and tighten it by hand and after that by hand.

Note:

When you start the engine check any leakage.

Maintenance:

The maintenance interval (as per second engineer) is normally when you note that you have sufficient spare for it and new one whole two set for indicator cock then changed or overhauled it.

The following parts are to replaced

1. Spring washer (all)2. Doubled seat
