The principle:

Suture is placed in the groove of the Endobrow SonicPin Rx

Pin penetrates into bone cavities and carries the suture into the hole

Tissue fixation using both ends of the suture

Using KLS Martin SonicWeld Pins, 5mm drill bits and 2.0 Vicryl suture

Amount of pins: 2 to 4 pins per patient (usually utilizing 2 pins)

Important:

- Drill needs to penetrate the bone to its full depth

- Point of insertion should be dry

- All bone dust must be removed

Fixing suture by pushing the pin into the hole

Hold the sonotrode in place for 3–5 seconds

Remove when material is consolidated

Patients usually receive 1 fixation pin on each side of the midline

Some patients received additional pins, placed in the temporal ridge region (one on each side)

 Intraoperative approach:

Place the suture over the hole without any tension – tension will cut the pin and may even damage the suture on the bone edges

Simply place the pin over the hole – bisecting the suture with the grooved tip

Push into the hole 1mm and maintain slight pressure.

Activate welder

Stop when head of the SonicPin is flattened

Wait for 3-5 seconds

Rotate sonotrode and remove from SonicPin

Wait for 10-15 seconds for final consolidation

Test suture strength with slight pull
