Congratulations to all of the following individuals

nominated for the

2017 School Food Service Employee of the Year!

In addition, Mr. Moeller included the following quotes from teachers in his nomination.

“Mrs. Prickel is always kind and friendly and helpful. She will drop whatever she is doing to help. She is always

smiling and really seems to enjoy her job.”

“Carla truly cares about our café and everyone who enters it. She takes pride in her work and leads with love.

She keeps teachers and students informed of changes or new foods that they may encounter at lunch. She

brings variety to the café, and kids get to experience foods they may not encounter otherwise. Carla uses

produce from the school garden when available which gives the kids a sense of pride and accomplishment.

She also bends over backwards to make sure that students with food allergies are safe.”

This is the 20th year the Indiana Department of Education has presented this special award. In celebration

of this anniversary, we have updated our School Food Service Employee of the Year Award webpage. For a

Education (IDOE) named Technology Academy

at Pettit Park the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable

Program School of the Year. Pettit Park is an

elementary school within the Kokomo School

Corporation. The school received a framed

and promotional materials. A banner will also be

given to the school from IDOE.

Heather McAninch, 2nd Grade Teacher, and

This past school year, the food service staff and

teachers at Pettit Park worked together to provide

healthy fruit and vegetable snacks to students by:

Director’s Corner - By Julie Sutton

I hope you enjoyed your summer break and are getting excited for the new school year! Did you get a chance this summer to attend some of our great training sessions? The Culinary trainings were again outstanding and enjoyed by all who attended. We also had training for New Food Service Directors and Food Safety training, both courses provided lots of valuable information. July 1 was the deadline to have your charging policies in place, so make sure households are notified of your policy in writing as they register for school. We are here to support you as you start the new school year. Be on the lookout for new coffee break webinars, and be sure to call your field consultant or our office with any questions you have. We look forward to seeing you at the ISNA fall conference in South Bend, another excellent learning opportunity! Thank you for all you do, have a great year!
