Recently, I was talking to

one of our past presidents, and he referred to the 80-20 rule. I asked him what he meant. He explained

that it means that in most clubs 80% of the members will be happy and suppor-

tive of the club and 20% won’t. Based on surveys, we have done periodically

at the club, we are fortu-nate that our numbers are closer to 95% to 5%.

to work on recruiting new members. This doesn’t mean that constructive

criticism to the right par-ties isn’t both helpful and necessary. It is. However,

publicly dwelling on the negative tends to feed itself and hurts the club.

Just a friendly reminder, since we have so many positive things going for us.

Also, please remember the IRGC’s Annual Meeting on

August 21st at 1:00 PM.

This year certificate mem-bers will be electing 3 of 4 nominees to the board. CPA Chris Sangster will be

August 31st Member’s Night 4:30 Shotgun

As July comes to a close, I have to say that it was a very successful month. No

measurable rain was recorded during the daytime in the entire month and that transpired into very favorable financial news. Several very successful events also increased the bottom line. Thank you to all the members who attended the dinner Sheryl and I prepared. We truly enjoy cooking and appreciate all of

the nice comments about our food. The August calendar has many activities in which members and family can enjoy; i.e., Stag Day, Mike Ridley on the Deck, the club dinner dance, the pro-shop Sale-A-Bration, a couple’s scotch ball

event and many interclub matches. With fall slowly approaching, I must remind everyone that dining minimums

must be used before the last dinner service on October 16th. Late season events sometimes prevent members from having dinner service, and I would suggest that everyone look at our calendar on-line and plan ahead to prevent

having minimums left at the end of the year. If you are coming to dinner, it helps immensely with staffing and food preparation to make a reservation by calling the dining room at 238-8515.

As the staff starts to depart for school, please let them know what a great job they have done again this season. I work very hard at selecting employees

whohave good work ethics and have values that we all try to instill in our own kids. Mentoring these people is not an easy job, but I think my managers have done an excellent job this year to ensure all the members and their guests are

given professional service by the staff.

Notes From The Treasurer

In Memoriam

Howard Shuman, one of our IRGC rangers died on the

golf course playing golf with his family in early July.

Here is a brief update on finances. At the end of June, net profit for the club

was $15,000 behind budget. This variation from budget is in the income ac-counts. The membership level has fallen in 2011, so we are behind budget in dues income. Green fees and cart rentals were also behind budget at the end

of June. The good news is that it looks like we will be ahead of budget by about $5,000 in green fees and cart rentals for July (final July numbers not yet available). With membership slipping, income from outside play and res-

taurant use is more important than ever. Expenses continue to be well con-trolled, coming in $8,000 under budget through June. Also, inventory levels are being well controlled. Kudos to Dave Marsh, Pat Whitman, and Doug

Temple for all their hard work in this area.

The Finance and Budget Committee has begun work on a long range plan for the club. The purpose of the long range plan is to anticipate major capital expenses which will be needed in the future and plan ways to finance them.

After the plan is approved by the board, we will communicate the results in

a future newsletter.

A Friendly Tale…..

I told my friend…..

This morning I waded across a raging river,, escaped

from a bear in the woods, marched up and down a

mountain, stood in a patch of poison ivy, crawled out of

quicksand, and climbed up an enormous tree!......

My Friend said, ― You must be some outdoorsman!‖

―No,‖ I replied, ―I’m just a lousy golfer.‖

The big news around the club this

month is the new and improved for-mat for the annual IRGC Club Cham-pionship to be played August 27and

28th. This yearly event will have a new name—The Legends Tourna-ment—and new scoring rules—

Stableford scoring. {PLEASE SEE ARTICLE: ―High Score Wins‖ else-

where in this newsletter.}

Your T&G committee decided on these changes as a way to answer some of the concerns that have been

voiced in the past. It is the commit-tee’s goal to increase participation numbers, competitiveness and enjoy-

ment while hopefully speeding up

play.

The men’s side of the competition will feature several different flights and ways to play. The OPEN division

will be played from the BLUE TEES with no handicaps given. Anyone feel-ing that they are playing well enough

can choose to enter this highly com-petitive flight. The man with the low-est 2 day gross total will be declared

the 2011 Club Champion.

The next flight will be open to any

man over 60 years of age. This flight

will also play a 2 day low gross total,

but from the WHITE TEES.

Remaining gentlemen of any age can

choose to enter the Stableford scor-ing flights. The number of these flights will be determined by the number of

players entered. Handicap level will be used to group players into proper flights with everyone hitting from the

WHITE TEES.

And last, but certainly not least, we

will have a division for our GOLD TEE loving gentlemen. These ―rule of 90‖ players will compete over 9 holes each day with the winner being de-

clared using Stableford scoring.

For the ladies we will use Stableford

scoring for all flights and the RED TEES. This decision was made in hopes of increasing the number of

participants. Similar to the men, the number of flights will be determined by the number of ladies who sign up

to compete. In addition, we will spon-sor a senior flight for the ladies that

ask only 9 holes per day.

For the Legends Tournament all tee groupings and starting times will be

set up by the Pro Shop for both days.

Tournament and Golf

There will be a scoring table to assist

with any scoring questions AND, if you choose the Stableford flights, only your points will be posted on

the windows—not any embarrassing

scores.

We encourage you to try this tour-nament this year. It costs nothing and hopefully you will enjoy a great

time with your fellow members. En-try forms are available in the Pro

Shop.

If you have any questions please see anyone from the T&G Committee or

our fine pro, Doug Temple.

PRESIDENT’S CUP

This year’s tournament has come down to just a few surviving players. On the ladies side Candee Tucker

will take on Carol Freismuth for the championship For the men it will be either Hap Herpel [2008

champ] or Steve Cheli [2010

champ] vs. Gary Freismuth.

The winners will be announced at the trophy ceremony following the Legends Tournament. Good luck and

congratulations on making it this far.

HIGH SCORE CAN WIN IN GOLF

How would you like to play in a golf tournament where the highest score wins and one or two bad holes do not ruin your chances of success? NO, you are not dreaming-- you are playing in the IRGC 2011 Legends Tournament! At this year’s

club championship tournament the people with the highest score will be declared the winner in several flights. The T&G Com-mittee has decided to use Stableford scoring at this year’s event. A Stableford competition is a golf tournament in which the object is to get the highest score. That’s because in Stableford, golfers are awarded points based on their net scores, with

points awarded as follows:

Net double bogey or above- 0 points

Net bogey 1 point Net par 2 points Net birdie 3 points

Net eagle 4 points

Net double eagle 5 points

So let’s say you make a net bogey at Hole 2- you score 1 point. You make a net birdie on Hole 3- you get 3 points!

Should you get a 12 on Hole 4-you get a zero, pick up and move on knowing that your tournament is NOT over.

2011 Ladies Invitational

Hurrah For The Red, White and Blue!

At dawn (we’re talking 5:30 am) on July 14th, IRGC

staff started preparing carts, course, food, etc. for the 15th Annual Invitational, ―Hurrah for the Red, White & Blue‖. Seventy two participants started arriving at

7:15 am to decorate all but 4 carts in great fashion. The weather was perfect and all seemed to have a great time. It was a festive affair that carried out to

the course as one would look out to see decorated carts and participants enjoying the surprise games the committee prepared. In addition, there was a nice

new addition of a casual fashion show during the luncheon. Congratulations to the winners for BOTH golf and best decorated cart were the team of Shirley Wixon, Nancy Hartfield, Helen Trim and Rachel

Swiss. Special thanks go to the great IRGC staff and the twenty five women who made it all work like

clockwork!
