As a testimony to its continued growth and academicexcellence, IIM Shillong has completed yet another successfulfinal placement season for the class of 2016 of its flagship PostGraduate Programme (PGP) in Management.

The season saw the participation of 137 students from a batchof 138 while 1 student chose to opt out from all processes inorder to pursue her entrepreneurial ambitions. A total of 142offers were made by 41 recruiters who participated in therecruitment drive. Pre-placement offers (PPOs) were acceptedby 15% of the batch.

Despite a 16% increase in batch size from last year, the seasonwas completed in record time and saw an increase in medianCTC offered on campus from 12.59 LPA last year to 14.00 LPA. Itis also worth noting that the average CTC offered to the topquartile of the batch was 18.15 LPA while the average CTC of thetop half was 16.54 LPA. The highest domestic CTC offered oncampus this year was 23.35 LPA in the domain of Consulting.

Our regular recruiters including Mahindra GMC, HSBC, Deloitte,J.P.Morgan, Nomura, RBL Bank, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Google,ICICI Bank, Amazon, Cognizant, Wipro, IBM, GSK Pharma,L’Oreal, YES Bank, Titan and SBI Bank once again showed faith inthe capability of our students. We would like to reiterate ourimmense gratitude for the support that they have given us overthe years. In addition to this, the growing credibility of our talentpool has been proved once again by the addition of various firsttime recruiters to this year’s placement process including KohlerIndia, ZS Associates, Future Group, Berger Paints, Voonik, HDFCAMC Ltd., JPMC and Thomson Reuters.

The highlight of this year’s placement process was marked bythe fact that more than 45% of the batch were made offers bythe top 5 recruiters on campus. The roles offered by these 5recruiters ranged across the fields of Consulting, Finance, Sales& Marketing, IT/Analytics, e-Commerce and Operations. Thisshows the diversity in the academic and professionalbackground of the students as well as the continued confidenceof our recruiters on the quality of our participants. Sales &Marketing emerged as the most preferred domain with 31% ofthe students opting for various S&M roles. This was followed byIT & Analytics and Finance which saw offers made to 20% and19% of the batch, respectively. BFSI and IT/ITES/Analytics onceagain emerged as the two most preferred sectors with 27% and31% of the students taking up offers in these two sectorsrespectively. In accordance with the country-wide trend, the yearalso witnessed a surge in the preference for start-ups and closeto 9% of the batch opted for such roles.

Sales & Marketing was themost sought after domain inthis year’s recruitmentseason and accounted for31% of the total offers. Thisdomain saw participationfrom all the major sectorslike FMCG, E-commerce,Insurance, and Healthcareamong others. The toprecruiting companies in this

domain were Google,L’Oreal, Tata Steel, TataMotors, Titan, GSK Pharmaand Voonik. First timerecruiters include KohlerIndia, Universal SompoGeneral Insurance andBerger Paints. From the e-commerce sector we areproud to include Voonik anddroom in our recruiters list,both of which feature in the20 Startups To Watch In2016 by Forbes.

Finance constituted a largechunk of the offers made,with 19% of the batchchoosing this domain. Firmssuch as ICICI Bank, RBLBank, JPMC, HSBC, SBI bankamong others were the toprecruiters in this sector. Yes

Bank selected students forits leadership program. PPOoffers were made tostudents by JP Morgan fortheir exceptionalperformance. The majorroles were offered in frontend investment banking,global markets, corporateand wholesale banking,equity research, etc.

General Management roleswere offered to 4% ofstudents from both regularas well as new recruiters.Regular recruiter MahindraGMC offered generalmanagement roles to allsummer interns whointerned with the company,highlighting the quality ofstudents. Another nichegeneral management rolewas offered by first timerecruiter Gandhi Fellowship,an initiative by KaivalyaEducation Foundation andPiramal Foundation. Roleswere also offered by twofirst time recruiters makingthree offers in all.

Over the past two years, IIMShillong has witnessedsteady traction withconsulting companies andthe trend continued thisyear as well. A total of 18%students grabbed thecoveted consulting roles,which were offered byregular recruiters, likeDeloitte (Strategy &Operations), Cognizant(Business Consulting) andWipro. Offers were alsomade by first time recruiterZS Associates.Both General Managementand Consulting rolesemerged as the highestpaying domains, accountingfor 7 out of 10 highestpaying offers

Around 20% of the studentswere offered roles in thisdomain, making it thesecond most sought afterdomain after Sales &Marketing. The highlight ofthis domain was our regularrecruiter CognizantTechnology Solutions whichoffered roles to almost 12%of the students, a significantincrease compared to the

offers made last year. Offerswere also made by regularrecruiters, like Wipro,Infosys BPO, SBI, andFidelity Management &Research, a subsidiary ofFidelity Investments, whichis the largest mutual fundcompany in the USA. Rolesin this domain were alsooffered by first timerecruiters including CementManufacturing CompanyLimited (Star Cement)

Operations domain sawroles being offered fromvaried sectors ranging frome-commerce to BFSI tohealthcare. Operations rolewere offered to 8% of thestudents. Most number ofoffers were offered by ourlong time recruiter TataSteel which made three

offers for roles such asSupply Chain management.Stellium Consulting alsooffered PPOs to all thesummer interns whointerned with the company,highlighting the everincreasing trust recruitershave in the talent at IIMShillong. Regular recruiter,Amazon offered one rolewhich also made it thehighest offer (CTC wise) inthis domain.
