NONDISCRIMINATION POLICY

It is the policy of the School District of Sevastopol that no person may be denied admission to any public

school in this district or be denied participation in, be denied the benefits of or be discriminated against in any

curricular, extracurricular, pupil service, recreational, or any other program or activity because of the person’s sex,

age, race, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, religion, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, or

physical, mental, emotional, or learning disability or handicap as required by s. 118.13 Wis. Statues. This policy

also prohibits discrimination as defined by the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (race, color and national

origin), Section 504 of the rehabilitation Act of 1973 (handicap), and the American with Disabilities Act of 1990

(disability)

The School District shall provide appropriate educational services of programs for students who have been

identified as having a handicap or disability, regardless of the nature of severity of the handicap or disability. The

School District shall also provide for the reasonable accommodation of a student’s sincerely held religious beliefs

with regard to examinations and other academic requirements.

The School district encourages informal resolution of complaints under this policy. A formal complaint

procedure is available, however, to address allegations of policy violations in the School District.

Any questions concerning this policy should be directed to:

INTRODUCTION

This Financial Aid Guide is provided to students and parents with information regarding financial aid

procedures and scholarship opportunities.

This guide is as up-to-date as possible, however, changes often occur after the material is printed. This is

particularly true for application deadlines. In order to better assist students, current scholarship information is

shared in the morning announcements, posted on school bulletin boards and listed on an information sheet in the

Pupil Services Office. Students are encouraged to check for a revised listing on a regular basis. Many scholarship

applications can be obtained in the Pupil Services Office.

Parents and students are reminded that most financial assistance is based on the premise that the cost of a

college or technical education is the responsibility of the student and his/her parents. Financial aid is a means of

assisting the parent(s) and student who could not otherwise afford such an education. The FAFSA (Free

Application for Federal Student Aid) will be available in December and a FINANCIAL AID MEETING

REGARDING THIS FORM WILL BE HELD IN JANUARY. It is extremely important that your parent(s)

attend this meeting!

Generally speaking, students seeking financial assistance must meet two criteria. They must have financial

need and have enough academic potential to be reasonably successful in the school of their choice. There are

however, some scholarships for which financial need is not a criteria.

Many colleges, universities, and technical colleges offer scholarships that are not always widely publicized.

Interested students should write to the Director of Financial Aid at the school of their choice for information

regarding scholarships and other forms of financial assistance.

Students are encouraged to apply for any and all scholarships they may qualify for.

See Mrs. Malcore or Mrs. Alberts if you have any questions.

TIPS FOR COMPLETING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS

1. Read all directions carefully before beginning to complete the applications.

Follow the instructions exactly.

2. TYPE ALL APPLICATIONS!

3. If you are asked to submit a statement in your own handwriting, be certain that it is legible.

4. Neatness is important. Do not submit an application that has smudges, cross-outs or answers

squeezed in corners. They will not be sent to the school or agency, but will be returned to the student for

correction.

5. Provide complete answers for each question. For example, if you are asked to list extra-curricular

activities and years in which you participated, provide all of that information.

6. Be certain that you do not have spelling or grammatical errors on your application. Being able to use

the English language correctly is an indicator of college potential.

7. Be as specific as possible in answering questions.

8. Give some thought to answers to essay type questions. If you are asked “why you want a college

education” or “why do you need a scholarship” be concise, provide thoughtful reasons, and give

creative rather than “stock: answers.

9. Proofread your application carefully! Have someone else review it also.

10. Be certain to meet application deadlines. No late applications will be accepted.

11. Apply for a variety of scholarships, for which you are eligible. Apply for every scholarship you feel

you may be eligible for.

12. Start planning very early in your senior year so that you have plenty of time to meet appropriate

deadlines.

13. Seek out adults who can write a positive recommendation for you and give them plenty of time to

complete their recommendation letter.

14. What you write and how well you write it are as important as what you have accomplished!

15. Any questions – see Mrs. Malcore immediately.

GOOD LUCK!
