Interview with...Nicola Colonna Target of the SINERGIA project is the reduction of

energy consumption for SMEs belonging to the agri-

food sector of Mediterranean basin. In what context

does it operate?

SINERGIA is enhancing cooperation amongst Mediterranean territories to

transform this area into a competitive macro region for the agribusiness, by

ensuring growth and employment, as well as to promote territorial cohesion and

environmental protection under the sustainable development “flag”. More

specifically it aims to transfer energy efficient models which will enable agro-

food SMEs to reduce their energy consumption through the introduction of

innovative technologies both process and power generation including renewable

energy sources.

Which concrete results until now?

SINERGIA consortium recently released “FET” the Food Energy Technology

database. It is an online repository of items where you can sort, by sector,

production processing (cooking, pasteurization, drying, chilling), for service

(lighting, cooling, heating, compressed air), the best technologies and experiences

already available. If you identify an interesting technology you can download a

summary sheet containing all kind of information and technical features. The

project relies on this type of knowledge transfer tool to reach audiences of

companies along the Med basin which are not connected to each other and not

familiar with these opportunities.

Which will be next steps to achieve?

There are three main roots until the project end. From one side partners are

almost completing the 50 pilot actions for the national companies, by finalising

the energy diagnosis actions. Based on the related findings an online Decision

Support System, customized in several national languages, will be set up.

Additionally an ATLAS of the best existing energy efficiency technologies will be

created. It is important to remark that FET, DSS and ATLAS will be a series of

interrelated outputs. Moreover we are going to celebrate national capacity

building seminars and workshops to disseminate the above described outputs and

to communicate the existence of the national helpdesks on the energy efficiency

themes which will be running also after the end of the project. Last but not least

the 20th of March in Marseille we are organising our final conference in the

context of the French event “ADEME” which will be held the days before.
