Manningham University of the Third Age (U3A) providesa stimulating learning and social environment for seniormembers of the community. It commenced in October1991 when 12 classes were offered to about 35 members.In 2011 we are offering 168 classes and expect ourmembership to exceed 1,600.

Membership is open to all mature age people who arenot in full time employment and who are interested inworking together to keep their minds active. There areno ability limits, no entry requirements – some classesmay require a level of experience, as stated in the coursedescriptions, and no examinations.

Tutors and office bearers provide their services free. Costsare kept as low as possible. The annual Membership feeis $40. A concession fee of $20 is extended to membersof other U3As. This fee enables you to attend classeswith no additional payment. Costs may apply in someclasses for material or class notes. Whilst we would likeevery member to be accepted into the classes of theirchoice, this is sometimes not possible. Some classes fillup quickly and waiting lists are formed. If you are placedon a waiting list for every class you have chosen, youmay withdraw your membership by applying for a refundat any time. Other classes where the format is progressivemay be closed to new comers beyond a set date.

Classes are held in a variety of venues. Most classes areheld weekly in 80 minute sessions between 9:00am and4:30pm. The Committee of Management advises that the materialpresented in classes is at the discretion of the tutor orleader and does not necessarily reflect the views of themanagement. Members are solely responsible for theirown level of participation in any exercise or activity. Theclass summaries indicate the content to be covered andmembers are advised to seek clarification from the tutorif required.

The classes offered depend on the availability of volunteertutors. Volunteers for existing and new areas are alwayswelcome.
