INCOMING STUDENT , Summer days are drifting away. As you are preparing for the fall semester (which is just around the corner!), be sure to keep all of the deadlines listed below in mind. Did You Know? As an entering Oxford student, you have access to Inside Oxford, an internal website for current students, faculty, and staff. Inside Oxford includes links to the college catalog, health and safety information, shuttle schedule, and most of the critical information you need to thrive at Oxford. To access Inside Oxford at any time, click the button found in the upper right hand corner of the Oxford College website, and enter your Emory NetID and password. Student Health Services visits are free for all students! We also have some procedures, services, medical supplies, and both prescription and over-the- counter medications available. All charges are billed through your bursar account within OPUS. Please check your OPUS TO DO list and make sure you do not have any outstanding Student Health requirements. If you have submitted forms and you still have outstanding requirements, check your secure messages on your patient portal. Don't forget, you will automatically be enrolled in the Emory student health insurance plan unless you submit an online insurance waiver in your OPUS account by September 15. Please remember to print your confirmation page to verify your status. Religious & Spiritual Life offers a range of services and opportunities for you at Oxford College. Led by the College Chaplain, Rev. Dr. Lyn Pace, we have 10 religious and spiritual life groups for you to explore and join. Pastoral care and confidential counseling services are also available to all students. One of our signature events of the year is the annual fall retreat. This year's retreat is currently being designed and will be offered as a day retreat at a local camp. Registration will be available online soon. For more information about the retreat or any aspect of this office, please contact Rev. Pace at [email protected]. The Gilbert Bookstore has everything you need to get your college journey started! You can rent your required textbooks and return them at the end of the term, buy a new or used textbook and it is yours to keep or sell back for cash, or buy digital learning content and access your course materials within minutes. Vaccination Requirement: Be sure to upload your vaccination status or submit an approved vaccination exemption by Sunday, August 1, before the 11:59 p.m. EDT deadline. Additional information on this policy, including how students can upload their vaccination status or submit an approved vaccination exemption, can be found on Emory Forward. Student Employment: The Oxford College Federal Work Study program will be using a job search tool called Handshake. You will have access to search for jobs in early August. Students planning to work during the 2020-2021 school year will be required to complete the following items: 1. A direct deposit account must be on file before a student begins to work. This account can be with any financial institution of your choosing. You can upload your direct deposit information here. 2. You are required to provide a picture ID and other documents as part of the hiring process. For questions about which documents to supply, please visit this website or contact [email protected]. Documents should be brought to the Student Employment Job Fair on August 24. Canvas and Placement Exams: By now, all incoming students have been invited to join the Emory Essentials Oxford Edition Canvas course. You can log in to Canvas with your NetID and password at classes.emory.edu. Please read the information in the Emory Essentials Oxford Edition Canvas course very closely. Module 2 includes important information about academics at Oxford (including the general education program), guidance to prepare for class registration (taking place in August!), information about placement exams, and suggestions to help you plan for your first semester of study at Oxford. Speaking of placement exams, students need to make sure they complete all placement exams by the August 1 priority deadline. If you do not complete them by that time, you may have difficulty signing up for classes during class registration, which begins the week of August 9. Don't wait until the last minute to take these exams! If you have questions about placement exams or content in the Canvas course, please contact the Advising Support Center at [email protected]. Pre-Registration Programming: As an incentive to log in to Canvas, once students complete Modules 1 and 2, they are eligible to attend a large group course planning session hosted by the Advising Support Center (ASC). The ASC is hosting these large course planning sessions throughout the month of July and first week of August. These sessions will cover logistics to navigate course registration, including using resources like Course Atlas and OPUS, and provide some general recommendations to help you prepare for class registration (taking place the week of August 9). The detailed schedule of large course planning sessions can be found in Module 2 in the sections “Scheduling with the Advising Support Center” and "Pre-Registration Programming." Students can also attend programs hosted by the ASC’s Peer Advising Network (PAN). Visit the “Advising Support Center Peer Advising Network (PAN)” page in Module 2 to find out about their exciting list of programs! The PAN team is also promoting their programs through the ASC’s Instagram and other social media platforms. New Student Orientation: This is a reminder that the New Student Orientation program begins with move-in on August 20. We are excited to welcome parents and families to campus on that day.
