Including Our Friends

What does inclusion mean?

Inclusion is being a supportive, respectful, and accepting friend

to all of your classmates.

How can I be Supportive to others?Being supportive to a person who has Autism may be

harder than it seems. The most important thing you can do to be supportive of your classmates with Autism is to listen to what they have to say. Listening doesn't always mean offering advice or a solution to a particular problem; rather, it simply allows your friend to feel as if his or her ideas are important to you.

How can I be Respectful to others?Everyone deserves respect. Here are some simple rules everyone should follow:

Page 2: Including Friends

. Treat other people the way you want to be treated.

. Be considerate.

. Listen to what other people have to say.

. Do not insult or make fun of a person.

. Do not judge a person before you get to know them.

How can I be Accepting to others? It is important to accept people for who they are. We

are all unique, in the way we look, feel, think, and interact. These differences make us special. There is no one just like us in the world. Dealing with other people who see life differently may be challenging; however, individual differences provide opportunities to experience new ways of thinking. You must always remember the famous phrase, “Never judge a book by its cover,” always dig deeper and find out who someone really is!
