What is INCLINATION

• It seems that the Lord of Death had come to pick up one of the saintly souls who

was putting out down all he had learnt on paper for posterity so that humanity need

not suffer anymore and be delivered from the ills of this life forever.

Precisely what the saint told the Lord of Death but He would have none of it.

• In reply it seems the Lord of Death replied that “time” is not a commodity that

exists to give away; where is the wealth that can buy even a “second” and as far

as the writing part goes, who is going to read it anyway?!

• Now I must admit this is right up my alley. I have been busy writing it all down, at

least the essential part of it so that some of my experiences may be shared by all.

• Lately I have been having second thoughts.

• When I see the million of reams being printed, published on things which would of

course require some sitting down into a quiet corner,

• I contrast this image with the other of the hustle bustle of daily commuting, the

slavery of the cell phone and the incessant pursuit of “enjoyment” whatever that is.

• To me it seems that the inclination to read is growing less and less in direct

proportion to the amount of written word available.

• Leave alone the usual daily reading like that of the newspaper which is itself done

while dashing for the cup of coffee with the eyes on the clock and the feet itching to

run to the car and press the accelerator, when are we sitting still and on our own?

There is so much to take from life and every second is precious.

• So we are busy in the moment and the future is so far away.

• I have always wondered when we see all these aged people around us, don’t we

learn from them?

This is all it is leading to and of course the eternal sleep; so what exactly are we

living for?

Answer as I see it is in the living of the moment and the theme is always pleasure.

We slave to have enough to buy houses, theatre systems and luxury cars but have

little or no time from our “slavering” to enjoy any of it.

But this experience neither deters us nor teaches us anything.

Does that leave us anything to talk about?

Not really, still, I have often pondered on a question and I would quite like to resolve it

before I go ahead.

Why do students come to me when they have neither the time nor inclination to

improve upon themselves?

My experience with student bodies in institutions and personal private tuitions has one

common string to it – they want to get the benefit of learning without effort.

Their attitude is that their presence in front of a teacher should take care of

the situation.

They are looking for some simple teaching method that will make use of their dormant

minds and “shut-off” senses and still manage to inculcate those essentials that will

push them towards their goal.

Reflect on this passage.

People pray for the ultimate emancipation and release from this life and fervently

ask the Lord to take them into HIS arms but when the time does come and the

Lord relents, they are worried about only one thing

When they inherit the universe, will they lose their individuality and all their

possessions, especially their pretty little world that they have created for

themselves?”

If we transpose this innocent question to other more mundane situations, we

immediately see the import.

Jobs are taken but we do not give ourselves fully to it, marriages are made but we

keep most of our-self back, we register for courses but mentally are elsewhere; in

short we want the world to come to us when be beckon but we keep our doors

closed.

• So it smooth sailing for most of the time except when an emergency situation

develops and then we suddenly think of God; a God who is a separate entity,

enthroned somewhere hidden away.

• But who is always listening and will take care of the need of the moment to our

convenience if we pray to him.

Just like that. Do note the expression ‘..to our convenience’

And what about the intelligence that God has given us?

Well why use it when God will take care of things anyway?

Have you ever seen someone bring a hot dish to the dining table and THEN still

holding it, look for the right place to put it down or even plan to make space for it?

How much intelligence and planning does this little action require and when you

see an old person doing it, you wonder what the person has learnt after all from a

whole life?

We are God's creations living in God's Creation and feel we can manage without HIM! - thinking of HIM only in an emergency and that too in selfishness.

It requires a stupendous level of arrogance and stupidity to feel and think that way.

Reflect. Ponder. Examine!!!!!
