Vacation Bible School

What an amazing week! This year we had 123 kids

ranging from 2 years old through 6th grade attend

VBS. To say they had a blast is an understatement.

We had so much fun learning about how God de-

signed each one of us for a purpose! Thank you so

much to all of the volunteers who helped out during

the week. Also, a special thank you to those who

came and helped out with getting decorations ready

and cleaning everything up! It takes a lot of people to

make VBS happen. Thank you to everyone!!

Special thank yous to Screened Image for our t-

shirts, Traffic Signs for our VBS banners, and Mr.

Refrigeration for the white dryer tubes and HUGE

boxes! Also, thank you to everyone who donated

(supplies or financial donations) to VBS. All the

decorations looked amazing!

Ugandan Thunder

On Monday, July 10, the African Children’s Choir,

Ugandan Thunder, will be coming back to our

church. Make plans to come that night to hear these

amazing children.

We are currently in need of host homes for small

groups of children (and an adult) to spend the night

after the concert. If you would be willing to serve as

a host home, please contact Stacie as soon as possi-

YOUTH

LEADERSHIP

TEAM Rev. Andy Curtis, Associate Pastor

Self-awareness is a valuable thing.

Being aware of our personal

tendencies, behaviors and triggers

impacts how we engage the

world. The same can be said for

the Church. A self-aware church

is one that understands who it is,

whose it is and how it should en-

gage the world.

Jesus’ self-awareness was off the

charts! He knew exactly who he

was and how he was to engage

the world. Jesus clearly lets us

know this when he offers a state-

ment about himself by quoting the

prophet Isaiah. Jesus said, “18 The

Spirit of the Lord is upon

me, because the Lord has anointed

me. He has sent me to preach good

news to the poor, to proclaim re-

lease to the prisoners and recovery

of sight to the blind, to liberate the

oppressed, 19 and to proclaim the

year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18

-19).

This same awareness and mission-

al mindset is to be at work in

each of Jesus’ followers. And, I am

delighted to say that from June

25th-28th eleven youth and four

adults from JFUMC will be striv-

ing to preach good news to the

poor, liberate the oppressed and

proclaim the Lord’s favor on mis-

sion in Lake Junaluska and Ashe-

ville, NC.

Lake Junaluska has partnered with

Rise Against Hunger, and has set

a goal to sort, pack and provide

25,000 meals to some of the

world’s most vulnerable people.

Your youth mission team will be

helping in this effort.

Also, the Asheville Buncombe

Christian Community Ministry

provides a variety of services to

Asheville’s poor and homeless.

They offer meals, supplies from a

food pantry, a clothes closet,

counseling, and many other re-

sources. Your youth mission team

will be helping with this as well.

Without a doubt, our mission

trips are some of the most trans-

formative times of the year, and it

all starts with God’s people going

out on mission and loving and liv-

ing as Christ taught us to.

Please pray for us, and those

whom we serve on this mission

trip.

Peace,

Andy

Because of the Mission Trip, there will be no Youth Activities on June 28.
