Ezine was started in March 2006 and after 60 monthly issues, we gave small break in September 2011. When we launched this ezine, originally, we focused on Public Relations. Slowly, after few months, we

moved to corporate themes. Presently, we find lot of negative and cynical news is getting spread among the people. At the same time, we also fail to notice the great achievements of many people. Such negative and cynical message demotivates the younger generation and it makes them to lose

confidence on the system. It is a dangerous trend. In future, your Ezine will publish only positive stories and celebrate the achievements of the individuals and the nation. In this edition, we are publishing the details about the top performing MPs, success stories and contributions of various individuals, etc. As usual, please send your feedback to us through email. We dedicate this issue to our readers.

Prime Point Foundation has been honouring the top performing Lok Sabha Members since 2009. Through this ezine, the Foundation honoured the top performers of 14th Lok Sabha in March 2009. The performance of Members of Parliament is being assessed by their (a) asking Questions, (b) participation in debates, raising important issues under Rule 377, 193, zero hour discussions, etc., (c) introduction of Private Members Bills and (4) attendance.

From 2010, this Ezine PreSense and the Foundation started honoring the outstanding performers of 15th Lok Sabha physically inviting them to Chennai in the presence of eminent people. The data is available in the websites of Lok Sabha and PRS Legislative Research. 3rd Annual Awards function was held jointly with Indian Institute of Technology, Madras on Saturday the 14th April 2012. Four Members of Parliament were honoured with ‘Sansad Ratna Award 2012’ for their outstanding performance in the 15th Lok Sabha till the first part of Budget Session 2012. (222 sittings) Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Former Governor of West Bengal and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Rajaji presented the Awards. Mr Era Sezhiyan, a well known octogenarian Parliamentarian and Dr Bhaskar Ramamurthy, Director of IIT, Madras were the Chief Guests. Details of Award winners are given. A Panel Discussion was held on the theme “Youth in Politics and Governance – Challenges and Opportunities”. Mr R Bhagwan Singh, (Editor of Deccan Chronicle), Mr S S Ramasubbu (Award Winning MP) and Mr Arjun Ram Meghwal (Award winning MP) were the panelists. (see photo). Mr S S Ramasubbu (Congress MP from Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu) has participated in 99 debates and asked 643 Questions, till Part I of Budget Session 2012. He has also attended 97% of the sittings. Mr Arjun Ram Meghwal (BJP MP from Bikaner, Rajasthan) has participated in 251 Debates, introduced 13 Private Members Bills and asked 389 Questions till the Part I of Budget Session 2012. He has also attended all the 222 sittings with 100% attendance. He ranks No 1 in the Lok Sabha for participation in Debates and also for 100% attendance. Mr Anandrao Vithoba Adsul (Shiv Sena MP from Amravati, Maharashtra) has participated in 27 Debates, introduced 3 Private Members Bills and asked 754 Questions. He ranks No 1 for asking Questions and also in the overall tally among the members of 15th Lok Sabha. He ranked No 1 in 14th Lok Sabha also for asking Questions.

As he could not attend the function on 14th April 2012 at Chennai due to health reasons, K. Srinivasan, Chairman of Prime Point Foundation presented the Sansad Ratna Award 2012 at his Office at Mumbai on 19th April 2012.

Mr Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, (BJP MP from Chandrapur, Maharashtra). He has participated in 77 Debates, introduced 20 Private Members Bills and asked 658 Questions. He ranks No 1 for introducing Private Members Bills. He could not participate in the Award function, due to his Parliamentary duties. However, he interacted with the audience on that day over mobile and participated in the Panel Discussion through phone.

Mr Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Former Governor of West Bengal and grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Rajaji presided over the function and presented the Awards. In an inspiring speech, he stressed the importance of Parliament as an Institution. He said, slandering the Institution like Parliament amounted to slandering ourselves. In the evening, another Panel Discussion was held with the theme “Youth in Politics and Governance – Role of Civil Society”. The panelists were new generation women drawn from different fields. Ms Jothimani (Congress), Ms Vanati Srinivasan (BJP), Ms Revathy (CPM), Ms Ajitha Karthikeyan (Political journalist), Ms Bhavana Upadyaya (Social Activist) were the Penelists (In the Photo L to R). The discussions were anchored by Ms Bhanu Gomes and Ms Sneha Gore ( 6 and 7 from Left in the Photo).

It was an interesting discussion with audience participation. Mr Arjun Ram Meghwal, MP also added his expert views from the audience. The panelists and audience discussed the role of NGOs, Media and Educational Institutions in motivating educated youth to enter into politics.

For the first time, Prime Point Foundation introduced the concept of SRPS Awards from this year to identify and recognise the ‘Socially Relevant Products and Services’. There are many products developed by Indian entrepreneurs which go unrecognised. These products are essential to India becoming a ‘Developed Nation’ by 2020’. Dr Y S Rajan, presently the Distinguished Professor of ISRO and also the Co-author of the book India 2020 with Dr Abdul Kalam, conceived this idea.

We made announcement about this scheme in February2012. The entries were evaluated by Dr Y S Rajan and Dr Sudarshan Padmanabhan of IIT, Madras. This year’s Award was presented to HD Medical Services Pvt Ltd, for their stethoscope like device which can detect ‘cardiac murmur’ even at the initial screening stage. Through this device, many lives of rural people have been saved.

Mr Arvind Thyagarajan, Chairman and Founder of HD Medical Services P Limited received the SRPS Award 2012 from Dr Bhaskar Ramamurthy, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (left in the photo) on 14th April 2012. Mr Arvind Thjagarajan holds more than 40 international patents in his name.

Announcement for SRPS Award 2013 will be made during June 2012. All commercially viable, socially relevant products or services will be eligible for submitting their nomination. Dr Y S Rajan, will Chair the Jury Board.

Agni-V is a solid fuelled Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India. It will greatly expand India's reach to strike targets up to 5,000 km away. Agni-V was test fired successfully on 19th April 2012 at 08:07 am IST from Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha. The 17.5-metre-long Agni-V would be a canister launch missile system so as to ensure that it has the requisite operational flexibility and can be swiftly transported and fired from anywhere. Agni-V weighs around 49 tonnes, one tonne more than Agni III even though its range is much farther.

A commercial jetliner would take over six hours to traverse such a distance. But Agni V, travelling at 24 times the speed of sound and 30 times faster than a commercial jet, will traverse that distance in just 18 to 20 minutes. It may be recalled that Agni-I was first tested at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha in 1989. Weighing 12 tonne with a length of 15 metres, Agni-I has a range of 700–1200 km. With the launch of Agni V, India has joined the elite ICBM Club along with US, Russia, UK, China and France. Though, India is not a signatory for the ‘Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons’, the other countries have also welcomed India’s launch. Thanks to India's 'no first use of nuclear power' policy, India does not pose a threat to any other country. PreSense congratulates the DRDO and the team for making India proud.

Barely within a week of DRDO showing the ‘Missile muscle’ of India by testing Agni V, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has made India further proud by launching PSLV C 19 vehicle with RISAT 1 Satellite. This Satellite is also positioned in the orbit with all precision fine accuracy. PSLV C 19 (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) was launched successfully at 5.47 am on 26th April 2012 from Sriharikotta. This is the 21st rocket launch for India and 20th consecutive successful launch. PSLV C 19 is a high-end version (PSLV-XL) equipped with six extended strap-on motors, each carrying 12 tonnes of solid propellant. This is also for the first time, India is launching a satellite vehicle with huge payload.

Besides, indigenously built ‘Radar Imaging Satellite’ RISAT 1 was also launched through this launch vehicle. RISAT-1, weighing 1,858 kg and the heaviest satellite launched yet by the PSLV, is a state-of-the-art Active Microwave Remote Sensing Satellite carrying a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) that will operate in the C-band.

Launch of this indigenous Satellite is a dream that came through after three decades. It is one of the most complex payload/satellite built by ISRO and also at the world level. Its uses are many from agriculture to flood to geology to surveillance. It gives 24 x 365 days coverage as it can penetrate clouds.

Committed leadership

First I would like to give you a unique experience I had with Dr. Santhosh Babu, then MD, ELCOT & CEO, TNEGA, Government of Tamil Nadu, whom I met in 2009 when I went to participate in the inauguration of the Virtual Contact Centre and Rural Business Hub at Hosur FOSTeRA (Fostering Technologies in Rural Areas), a rural BPO conceptualized by him when he was the District Collector, Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, at Sanasandiram, Chennathur Panchayat, Hosur Block. Dr. Santhosh Babu and his team had enabled training and employment of youth of 10th std and above dropouts into skilled BPO workers for subsequent employment in rural BPOs that they had set up.

Apart from this contribution to Krishnagiri district, Dr. Santhosh Babu had become known in the district for reducing school dropouts. Dr. Santhosh Babu had made a unique and innovative intervention in realizing the goal of virtually near zero dropout in the district by application of technology, community partnership and detailed diagnosis of the problem. I was astonished to see the richness of data in the software developed by Dr Santhosh Babu www.back2school.com.

The methodology he has used precisely brought out what is needed by the student and his family. District Administration arranged to provide those needs immediately. For example, a girl named Nirmala, Krishnagiri district, dropped out from the school number of times in-spite of best efforts of district authorities. On detailed enquiry it was found the girl's family needed a ration card, a house and a job for the mother. The district authorities provided a ration card, house, as a part of the Indira Awas Yojna and a government job for mother as a noon-meal worker.

The child was admitted in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in the 6th Class. Once the Collector arranged provision of these three items, the girl started going to the school regularly. She has now successfully completed 10th class in a craft school in Bangalore. The message was, one has to go into the details of why a child was dropping out of the school. Having established the reason, we have to remove the cause and facilitate the child to revert back to the school.

This action has been taken very effectively by Shri Santhosh Babu and his team leading to rapid reduction in school dropouts. This example demonstrates that a committed civil service officer with passion can definitely make a difference to societal well-being and overall happiness using technology.

Reunite to Redefine India (RRI), one of the partner groups of Action 2020 organised a general health camp at Govt. School, Adigathur Village, Tiruvallur District on 22nd April 2012. Nearly 200 Scheduled Tribe people were screened for Thyroid, Hepatitis, Diabetes and other general health related issues. Their website www.rrindia.org

Aum Education Seva Trust (partner of Action 2020) organized a Dental Camp at Thiruninravur on 8th April 2012. Ten Govt. Dental College doctors offered their service. Nearly 150 poor people were screened for dental problems. They also created awareness about dental care to the family members of the beneficiaries. Dream India, one of the partner groups of Action 2020 organised a Science Exhibition at Corporation School, Adyar. The volunteers of Dream India helped around 100 students right from planning stage. Concepts like Robot, rain water harvesting, human body, health, etc. were displayed. Around 1000 children from different Corporation Schools visited the Science Exhibition. The purpose was to create Science awareness among the Corporation School Children. Dream India’s website www.dreamindia.org

Rajaji, C V Raman, Dr S Radhakrishnan, Jawaharlal Nehru, G B Pant, Rajendra Prasad, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Mother Therasa, Acharya Vinoba Bhave, Dr B R Ambedkar, Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, APJ Abdul Kalam, C Subramaniam and few others. This is the list of great men, who were honoured with Bharat Ratna in the past 65 years. This is the highest Civilian Award of India given to the persons for their outstanding contributions to the Nation and to the common men, as ‘Life Time Achievement’ Award. Nowadays, hype is being created to confer Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar. Considering the sanctity of this Award, many people oppose this move of including Sachin in the galaxy of great men referred earlier.. Though Cricket is a popular game, it is not the only game in India. Many sports persons like Viswanathan Anand have achieved more significantly at the global level. Outstanding sportspersons are honoured by Indian Government with Padma Awards, Arjuna Awards and Khel Ratna Awards. Already Sachin is a recipient of Padma Vibhushan (the second highest civilian award), Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award and Padma Sree Award for his achievement in cricket. Though more than 6000 persons have received Padma Awards in the past 65 years, only 41 persons (including 8 posthumously) have been conferred with Bharat Ratna Awards. This shows the importance and seriousness of this Award. The critics also question the real contribution of Sachin to the poor people and the society. He has been using all the achievements for increasing his charges for (a) media commercials, (b) product endorsements and (c) for attending events. He is known for encashing all the achievements for his personal monetary gains only. Any honour like Bharat Ratna or Rajya Sabha seat will add to only his commercial rate. Conferring Bharat Ratna to Sachin, will set a bad precedent in the Indian history. In what way, his centuries have helped ‘aam adhmi’? We are not able to understand the ‘hype’ being created over the awarding of Bharat Ratna to Sachin, when he has not even touched 40. Generally, the average age of Awardees is more than 65 to 70. Bharat Ratna cannot be conferred based on the popular emotions and media hype. The recipients should have contributed extraordinarily for the benefit of the society. There are many deserving people, who are yet to be conferred with Bharat Ratna.

Mr P V Narasimha Rao and Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee have contributed significantly to the Nation by their visionary policies. As Prime Ministers of India, they positioned our country at the global level.

Mr E Sreedharan (81), known as ‘Metro Man’ is mainly responsible for many railway and metro projects. He made ‘transport revolution’ in India. Mr Varghese Kurien (90), popularly known as ‘Milkman’ is responsible for the ‘White Revolution’ in India. They are only outstanding achievers. Sadly, they do not have fans like Sachin! These legends do not play cricket or act in films.
