Hurricane Sandy reinforces BTX’s Business Interruption Strategy

Hurricane Sandy affected the lives of many. Defined as a category two hurricane at its peak intensity, the lasting effects certainly made it feel like a category five. The storm was felt from Florida to Maine; however, it was most devastating to the New York and New Jersey coastlines. Unfortunately, one never knows how to prepare for Mother Nature’s fury. We plan to have ample water, candles, batteries, and gasoline. We plan on having enough food staples such as milk, bread, and eggs for our homes and families. If we anticipate well enough we may even be ready with a generator that can effectively help us live temporarily almost unchanged from our daily lives. Running a business is no different. We need to anticipate business interruptions and plan accordingly. BTX has 25 branches that may be affected at any given point. One area we concern ourselves with is our computer servers. Our operating systems are cloud based; therefore, we are required to have internet connectivity at all times in order to operate smoothly and effectively for our customer’s needs. CharitiesAt BTX, giving is part of our culture. We believe giving is something that happens year-round, both locally and nationally. We look for ways to help our people make meaningful contributions, whether it’s within their own neighborhood or as part of a global community. This holiday season we provided options for each station to make meaningful contributions to a charity of their choosing, in lieu of traditional holiday gifts. Due to your help this holiday season, the following charitable organizations were given support they so often need!

Mr. Dale Schofield was appointed as Credit & Collection Manager. Dale graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics. He brings over 20 years of Corporate Finance experience with an emphasis on Accounts Receivable & Collections to this position. His main focus will be on reducing the company’s exposure to bad debts and thus reducing our overall “DSO” (Days Sales Outstanding), as well as improving the Credit & Collection processes. Dale resides in Shelton, CT with his wife and daughter.

Tammy Green joins our organization as the Distract Sales Manager for Southern California. Her success has been in the retail sector. Her experience includes Ocean Importing, Global Business Development and Managing. She lives in LA with her husband and both are from Rochester, NY; she attended the University of Rochester. Tammy is a true professional and is uniquely qualified to develop partnerships that will assist with our efforts to sustain and grow our business.

BTX Global Logistics is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Todd Kraft as an Account Manager at our JFK station. Todd brings with him a vast knowledge of the international logistics business, having worked over six years for Cargo Trans and D. B. Shenkers. Todd resides in Roseland NJ and will be primarily responsible

We’re hatching a BIG IDEASince the early 1900’s, many authors have taken credit for the expression “KNOWLEDGE IS POWER”. Technology has taken that thought to a new dimension. Today, not only do we have to be concerned with knowledge, we now have to develop ways to deliver that knowledge in a faster, more concise and more accurate manner, and it has to be ‘user friendly’. This is an area that BTX has always excelled. When our BIG IDEA hatches in March 2013, it will provide our customers comprehensive fulfillment services with scalable and adaptable facilities and operations. The newborn, will feature streamlined processes including a new cutting edge Inventory Management and Reporting Systems, coupled with bi-coastal BTX presence to insure timely, accurate, and cost efficient service…every time. This will not be your every day fulfillment processing. We are integrating the entire scope of e-commerce needs into our design. Shopping cart integration, web design, payment processing, marketing and affiliate management along with order shipping systems, accounting systems and product fulfillment will all be included. This will be a flexible turnkey online e-commerce fulfillment system, complete from design to delivery and all of this can be implemented by clicking on MY BTX. How’s that for user friendly? Like all BTX services our new Application to Market program is backed up with the most knowledgeable people in the industry. Look for future updates about the new arrival. It will be here soon.

The devil is in the details

Trade Show ServiceBTX Global Logistics has been providing Trade Show Services to its customers for over 32 years. When preparing for a tradeshow there are so many aspects to consider all requiring time, effort and money.

BTX Global Logistics provides time-critical freight delivery solutions to meet our customers varying deadlines. Shipping to trade shows requires utilizing a company who fully understands the demands of trade show logistics.

Trade shows can historically be traced back to mid-evil Europe when people wanting to sell their wares would gather in one place. The modern trade show format became popular in the early 1960’s sparked by the post war construction of the interstate highway system. Now that the country had a way to quickly supply product to places otherwise out of reach in the past, manufacturers were eager to present their products to other markets. The trade show was a natural next step in the process. The core reason for a trade show is to bring buyers and sellers together. The realization that more and more people would participate in trade shows if they were held in cities of interest led to the construction of huge convention centers able to hold thousands of exhibitors and buyers. Once these mega sites were in play, there was a realization that there had to be ‘rules and regulations’ in place to insure a smooth in and out for each show. It’s these detailed rules and regulations that have become a

maze of mystery to a lot of exhibitors and some transportation companies as well.

BTX Global Logistics, with over thirty years of experience in trade show shipping, has been able to stay in pace with this ever changing industry. We do not only provide the transportation of show material from point A to point B, we will advise and consult on ways to make this whole experience better. The thousands of exhibits we handle each year have positioned BTX as a major player in this industry and have earned us ‘preferred carrier’ status for many shows. Over the years, we have received many accolades on our trade show service, not only for the transportation aspect, but also for the tips and hints we have offered on packaging, labeling and ways around the pit falls and accessorial charges show management has built into the system. What BTX offers is a true collaboration in this all important marketing arena.

disaster. Of course these data centers have generator backups and redundant connections but one can never be too careful. We need to remember how to operate without technology. Len Bacarella, who runs BTX’s New York and Connecticut operations explains; “We definitely had interruptions; however, we had a plan in place in case we lost power. Our phone systems were transferred to one of our regional service centers so we could respond effectively

to our customers and their shipping needs. What we did not anticipate was evacuating our Branch in Southern Connecticut, which is located in Stratford. The water flooded our yards where our trucks are domiciled and we had to evacuate all of our equipment. I am happy to say that we reacted in time”. Our plans were well thought out and thankfully, executed with precision. Our customers continued to rely on us while we recovered from the devastation.
