Dear Evans School Community

As we prepare for the return of our students in just under two weeks Id like to

take a moment to welcome back our faculty from their various summeractivities In particular Id like to once again welcome our newest facultymember Ben Brunjes to Seattle and the UW and Id like to welcome backCrystal Hall who is returning from working at the White House as wellas David Layton and Steve Page who are returning from sabbatical At thesame time I wish Alison Cullen well as she embarks on her own well-earnedsabbatical

In other exciting news our renovated Remak Commons will be coming onlineas a smart classroom this Autumn Quarter This is one important step forwardin making sure we have modern learning spaces in Parrington Hall Id like tothank Kelly Campbell for managing this project If you will be teaching in thisclassroom be sure to take a training to learn how to use the rooms newequipment See below for training information

Its going to be a fantastic year and I cant wait to get started

A SIMPLER WAY TO PROPOSE Thanks to feedbackfrom the Evans School Faculty Committee on Research theIntent to Propose (ITP) process has been revised to include achecklist to kick off the proposal process The ITP Checklistrequires less detailed budget information at the outset of theproposal development process which should allow thosepursuing sponsored funding to begin the School review andengagement process sooner Find the new ITP Checklisthere

Birkland is a Design Consultant and Policy Advisor forSolterra where he strives to catalyze greaterintegration of renewable energy sources working with adiverse range of clients

Scott is Assistant Director for Advancement and AlumniRelations here at the Evans School She is also adoctoral candidate in political communication studyingcontemporary American political discourse and writingher dissertation about the 2016 presidential election
