Last week was married in St. Thomas's Parish,one Mr. John Strahan, 70 years of age, to Mrs.Naomi Painter of sixty. (Saturday, March 17,1732-33-)
On Wednesday last Thomas Dale, M. D., wasmarried to Mrs. Mary Brewton, at St. Philip's churchin Charlestown. (Saturday, March 31, 1733.)
[The last issue of The South-Cardlina Gazette ofT. Whitmarsh appeared on Saturday, September 8,1733' Whitmarsh having died of yellow fever thesummer preceding. In 1734 L. Timothde came toSouth Carolina, and on February 2, 1734, issued thefirst number of The South-Carolina Gazette^ thus taking the same namethat Whitmarsh's paper had borne.With the issue of April 6, 1734, Lewis Timothyappeared as the name of the printer, thus anglicisingL. Timothee.]
On Thursday, the i8th inst. Mr. Robert Pringle,merchant in Charlestown, was married to Miss JaneAllen, a beautiful young lady, daughter of Mr.Andrew Allen, an eminent merchant in this town.(Saturday, July 27, 1734.)
Last Thursday Mr. Isaac Chardon, a very worthyeminent merchant of this town, was married to MissMary Woodward, of James's Island, a young lady ofconspicuous merit and a large fortune. (Saturday,November 8, 1735.)
And yesterday John Daniel Esq; was married toMiss Sarah Raven, a young lady of great merit andfortune. (Saturday, January 24, 1735—6.)
On Thursday last Mr. John Bedon jun. was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Massey, relict of Mr. BenjaminMassey deceased. (Saturday, July 31, 1736.)
On Thursday last Thomas Lamboll, Esq., wasmarried at Ashley Ferry, by the Rev. Mr. Guy, toMrs. Peggy Edgar, a very agreeable lady. (Saturday, April 16, 1737.)
[The last issue of the Gazette to appear on Saturday was that for Saturday, April 15, 1738. The nextissue appeared Thursday, April 20, and thereafterit appeared every Thursday. Lewis Timothy wasaccidentally killed at the close of the year 1738(buried Dec. 30 —St. Philip's register); but the paperwas continued by his widow, with her son^ PeterTimothy as printer. Finally, Mrs. Elizabeth Timothysold her interest to Peter Timothy. The last Saturday issue appeared Saturday, Sept. 20, 174°- Thenext issue appeared Friday, Sept. 26, and the nextThursday, Oct. 2, and thereafter was regularly issuedon Thursday.]
Last Tuesday Capt. Ebenezer Simmons, of thistown, merchant, was married to Mrs. Mary Jones,widow, a lady of great beauty, merit and fortune.(Thursday, January 22, 1741-)
[The issue for Thursday, Aug. 6, 1741, was thelast Thursday issue; the next issue appearing onSaturday, the i6th, and thereafter appearing regularly on Saturday. After Saturday, June 5, 1742.the date of publication was changed to Monday, thenext issue appearing Monday, June 14, 1742-]
On Thursday Mr. Edward Gough was married toMrs. Mary Elliot, a beautiful young widow, with fineaccomplishments and a very considerable fortune.(Monday, Sept. 27, 1742.)
