His sketches of the birds landed him a job as an illustrator for Racing Pigeon News, a magazine with world-wide circulation.

In 2008, he was featured with a one-man show at Wilmington Col-lege and received honors at South-ern State Community College.

Last summer, he displayed his art at the Miamisburg Art Gallery and the Dayton Art Institute Museum.

For the past three years, his work has received honors at the show held by the Southern Hills Art Council in Jackson.

Kline now lives in Wilmington, still painting the rural scenes that so inspired him in his earlier years.

Admission to Southern State’s Meet the Artist event is free and open to the public.

Team LRC winstrivia challengeIn a hotly contested trivia challenge, Team LRC defeated Team AOC by two points! The annual trivia contest always kicks off a week of activities celebrating National Library Week. Each team answered ques-tions in biography, advertising, geography, and Ohio history. The losers now must pre-pare a meal for the winners at a date and site to be determined. The AOC students were on a roll, having won the contest the previous two years.

Team LRC (top photo) included (front, l-r) Mary Ayres and team captain Michelle Fauber; (back, l-r) Jeanne Skaggs, Bonnie Shaffer and Tim Hounshell; and (absent from photo) Amy Werring.

Team AOC (bottom photo) included (front, l-r) team captain Jonathan Baker and Salvador Torres; (middle, l-r) Carmela Faugno, Cindy Tolle, Tammy Williams, Marsha Alsip, Chassidy Woodruff, Shawna Frump; and (back, l-r) Jocelyn Minnich, Diane Moore Matthew Johnston, Bette Downs, April Taylor, Eric Pflueger. Donna Baker is the instructor.

“The college has taken a great stride recently in initiating a human resource department, and this addi-tion to the administrative structure is taking care of some issues that may have been easy to overlook without that function. Additionally, the new advising and retention services area will provide a vital resource to help-ing more of our students experience even more success and completion of programs.

“One of the areas that is a sig-

nificant concern to me is the need for additional academic support and leadership so that we are better posi-tioned to develop new programs and courses, evaluate and further develop both full-time and adjunct faculty, and manage all of the partnerships and collaborations that are becoming our new way of life.”

Dr. McCall emphasized that fac-ulty members are handling the in-crease in enrollment in stride, but that a new organizational structure would better serve the institution and its stu-dents.

In other business, the board voted unanimously to approve: a corporate resolution to authorize Dr. Boys as signer on all accounts; a resolution to offer an alternative retirement plan; and a resolution offering support for the Third Frontier ballot issue.

The board then entered into ex-ecutive session for the purpose of discussing collective bargaining.

The next meeting of the SSCC Board of Trustees will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010.
