Adex exhibits fast slitterAdex Plastics is showing its Pelican Rotoflex 1250mm-width differential shaft type centre slitter that reaches speeds in excess of 400m/min with BOPP of 15 to 50µm, LDPE and HDPE of 30 to 150µm, and laminated films of 30 to 100µm.

The slitter has a colour touchscreen panel with motion and tension parameters achieved by a three-drive control system and the latest-generation closed-loop AC digital drive with servo motor on the unwind draw roller and rewind unit.

The machine’s bus system automation maintains tight synchronisation between the PLC and drives. The unwind unit is equipped with a load-cell base web-tension control system and the AC digital servo drives a pair of load cells for tension feedback.

Shaftless integrated unwind consists of two solid arms mounted on precision linear guide ways with an electric line/edge guiding system containing a true colour line sensor and PMDC motor. There are auto-grip self-expanding chucks on unwind, suitable for both 76mm and 150mm cores.

The hydraulic-operated reel-lifting system provides standard pick-up of parent reel from floor level to working position to ensure ease of loading and unloading of reels.

A key feature of the EOS is that it’s the first label printer to be fitted with a touchscreen as standard. This makes it easy to call up existing labels, add data and print, without being connected to a PC. Complete labels can be saved to a USB memory stick or the internal memory of the EOS printer.

EOS1 and EOS4 differ in terms of their size. The larger EOS4 accommodates label rolls up to 8” in diameter. The splice table is level with the working deck, making base material cut-and-splice easy. Mechanical parts are separate from the packaging area, allowing easy access for inspection and cleaning in compliance with GMP. The balcony structure, short materials-to-machine unwinding path and keyless locking systems enable format changes to be carried out in 15 to 20 minutes.

Plate sealing ensures the uniform application of pressure over the whole sealing area, while the machine is equipped with a safety system that detects foreign matter between the sealing plates.

This new environmentally-friendly lightweight Gas-Lock cap and preform system boasts many new features yet saves on unnecessary plastic with 33% less plastic in the preform neck, and 15% less plastic in the closure compared to the standard PCO 1810.

This one-piece closure has a positive break angle to ensure that the tamper-evident band breaks cleanly and early in the opening process before gas is released from the bottle.

This closure, that suits GL1881 and PCO1881 necks, has a drop-down band that provides visual evidence of tampering and

is manufactured using an energy-efficient compression-moulding conversion process.

Other products being showcased by Polypet Preforms are the rPET/PET containers manufactured for Pick n Pay and Woolworths.

Polypet, a division of Polyoak Packaging, has pioneered the use of rPet in South Africa by being the first to run production of rPET and PET-blended containers using Extrupet’s rPet.

Polypet currently manufactures rPET/PET-blended bottles weighing 42g. These contain 30% rPET. Extensive trials ensure the pack’s integrity in terms of preserving the contents, clarity of the container and, importantly, compliance with food safety standards.
