Thank you to the family of

Marion Howatson. They

knew that Marion really en-

joyed her time at Askennonia.

Marion’s family chose Askennonia as the

charity of choice for tribute gifts. Donations

of nearly $750 have been made to Askenno-

nia since Marion’s passing.

Marion’s family want the money to go to

something concrete, that will benefit the

members of Askennonia.

If any members have ideas for equipment or

supplies, please submit a short paragraph

with your suggestion by Nov 1 to reception

desk. The Board of Directors will review

ideas and determine where the money

should be spent (which must be spent before

year end).

What would you like for Christmas??

Do you have trouble answering that question? Let your family or friends know that you need

your 2016 Askennonia membership! They can purchase a Gift Certificate for any

amount by calling 705-526-7609 or emailing [email protected] Now, that’s a practical gift.

It keeps giving to you all year long!

ATTENTION LEADERS & PARTICIPANTS

SNOW DAYS Askennonia does not close automatically when school buses are cancelled. Unless an instructor chooses

to cancel, classes will be offered. It is solely up to the member to decide whether or not to attend a class. It will be the

responsibility of the member to call the centre if the weather is poor to find out (from staff or answering machine) wheth-

er the centre is open or not. If the instructor cancels a session (due to weather or personal issue) a makeup class may be

held at some time in the future. Classes delivered by volunteers may decide to have a specific policy, depending on

things like the driving distance of the volunteers. Volunteers/leaders should make sure that participants are aware of your

plans for snow days.

2016 MEMBERSHIP Membership cards are provided so that people will get to know each others’ names & to confirm

paid membership. A 2016 renewal sticker should be affixed to your card before attending 2016 programs. Membership

remains at $50 per year and entitles you to attend many programs. That’s less than a loonie per week! Guests or pro-

spective members are welcome to come in and sample most programs free of charge. Subsidized memberships are also

available. See Judy for more information on subsidies.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Membership Desk Volunteers!!!

Jane Barnett was back at Askennonia providing valuable training to our wonderful front desk volunteers on Sept 28, thanks to a Seniors Community Grant

from the provincial government. Jane covered information about customer service, different types of communication strategies, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and conflict resolution/dealing with difficult people—

not that they ever have to use that training here at Askennonia!! Welcome aboard to our new recruits and thanks to all!
