Stages of the project
Youth day was held for the first time in 2015 in the framework of the V St. Petersburg
International Gas Forum (hereinafter - SPIGF). The organization was made by PJSC
Gazprom and Higher Economic School of UNECON. Members of IBC took an active part
in the preparation and conduct of the event and sent their best experts to
communicate with the youth audience.
On October 2015 the proposal to make an annual event “Youth Day: Dialogue of
Generations” (hereinafter - Youth Day) was discussed by the members of IBC
Commitee «Human Resources, Education and Sciences» (hereinafter - HRES).
December 06, 2015 the project was presented and approved on Presiding Committee
Meeting. The project is planned as an annual event in the frames of the St. Petersburg
International Gas Forum, and contains a series of public events on important areas of
the energy industry.
In order to develop and implement the project the following stages were planned and
approved:

1.1. Organizing Committee
In order to control the realization of IBC’s working project "Youth day: Dialogue of
generations" (hereinafter – Project) the Organizing Committee was established.
The powers of Organizing Committee:
• preparation of recommendations on the content and participants of Project;
• control of Project realization;
• admission of the reports on the current status of the Project;
• admission of detailed financial reports of the Project implementation;
• preparation of proposals to the Board of IBC on making a decision on funding
the next year of the Project implementation.

1.2. Youth Day concept
The concept of an international interactive event Youth Day gives an ability to create
the conditions for open dialogue between industry's business community and the
young audience for the questions on energy industry development as well as on
attracting the young talents in the energy sector.
The event is aimed at the development of attractiveness of the energy sector among
the young audience. Youth Day creates an opportunity for all those who with their
latest achievements in the economic, managerial and technical science define the
future of the energy industry.
Youth Day aims to combine innovative methods of working with young people, based
on the mass involvement of the participants in interactive activities with theoretical
and practical content, and using strong motivating factors, such as the prospect of
further education, employment and career development.
The participants of Youth Day have a possibility to discuss the most relevant topics in
energy sector.

1.3. Promotion & Meetings
The Project was repeatedly presented on the meetings with partner organizations and
companies on different levels. The main objective is the search of support and spread
of the information about Youth Day. This allowed to attract a lot of potential
participants – the students from universities and educational institutions of different
countries.

1.5. Selection of participants
The official participants of the Youth Day are the students of the higher educational
institutions from different countries.
There were three stages of selection:
In order to select the most talented and promising students the following selection
criteria were established:
Master degree students (graduates of 2016/2017). Up to 25 years. Fluent English (Upper-intermediate level minimum). The presence of industry vision, professional knowledge in the field of energy. Recommendation from the University was considered as an asset.

Kinga Soja (Italy) – changing of exam schedule; Yan Wang (The Netherlands) – lost the documents 3 hours before departure.

Mini Case was devoted to the peculiarities of innovative activities within gas-petrochemical clusters in Asia – Pacific Zone. The task was to specify the criteria that would determine the optimal proposed location of the anticipated gas-based petrochemical cluster and to explain how it may work out for the location selected. The completion of the task involved the search for certain amount alternative solutions using analytical skills, as well as the ability to provide the result in the form of an essay.
Mega Case concerned the development for innovative and educational gas-based petrochemical cluster in the Asia-Pacific Zone by 2025. Within the cluster, a partnership of major oil and gas companies with the leading universities in the region is being spotlighted. In fact economic and technological opportunities depend on the development of such a cluster. The final task was focused not only on the choice of potential cluster locations, but also in the investigation of the key innovative activities within the projected cluster region in order to encourage locations development.

The program of events was developed taking into account the proposals of Youth Day
participants of last year:

2. Implementation of "Youth Day"
2.1. Expenses on YD2016 organization
Under the decision made on Presiding Committee Meeting, December 06, 2015, the
Project obtained the financial support from IBC. The budget of 160 000 euro was
allocated on the following expenditures:
1. Program and content development, methodological support:
Youth Day design and organization.
Case study design.
Development and moderation of Workshops.
Case Contest moderation.
2. Youth Day holding:
rent of 6 halls and equipment, Expoforum services (translation, photo, video,
lunches).
SPbIGF participation fees.
3. Souvenir products and polygraphy.
4. Organization of participants travel and stay:
Grant for foreign participants on transport up to 350 euro per person: 52 tickets
bought, one canceled with 90% penalties.
Accommodation in hotel “Rossia”: 53 rooms.
Transfers from/to airport/train stations and to/from events.
2 gala dinners and 3 lunches included in official program.
2 additional dinners in hotel “Rossia“ for nonresident participants.
St. Petersbourg sightseen tour for nonresident participants.

2.2. Preliminary stage September 2016
Preliminary stage of Youth Day-2016 on September 2016 suggested three main
activities in order to prepare the official events of the program:
September 01-20, Survey on career prospects and opportunities of young
professionals in energy industry (Annex 1, 2)
Executive Committee carried out a survey in Russian and European universities
participating in the Youth day.
Aim is to research the career prospects and opportunities of young professionals
in energy industry.
Survey is based on the Triennium Work Report: Delivering on Talent by Marius
Popescu. The report is produced under the auspices of the International Gas
Union (IGU) which holds the copyright (www.igu.org).
The results had to be presented on Off-tie meeting but it wasn’t because time
delay.
The survey polled 271 student:
• from universities of Russia and CIS countries (208 pers.),
• from European universities (63 pers.).
September 01-25, Registration of participants on Workshops
For equal distribution of participants on four workshops (max 35 pers.) the preliminary
registration was made on-line. The participants made their decision according short
descriptions of workshops sent by mail.
September 05-26, Mega case solving by the national students’ teams
September 05 - teams got the case-study and tasks.
September 26 – deadline to send case-study solution in form of presentation.
The period of August-September 2016 was also devoted to organization of arrival and
stay of participants, revision and finalization of the program, approval of logistics and
technical issues. The last week before event was devoted to communication with
experts and speakers in order to present them the final version of the program and
documents needed for their participation in Youth Day.

7 teams: Russia (2 teams), Germany (2 teams), The Netherlands (2 teams), France (1 team) were competing for a Grand Prix: the visiting tour on the energy partnering energy companies.
From 05 September 2016 to 26 September 2016 the teams had been preparing the solution to the case study, which was presented to the International Expert Committee on a final round.

Annex 1 SURVEY
This survey is carried out by Executive Committee Youth Day-2016 in order to research the career prospects
and opportunities for young professionals in energy industry. It is based on the Triennium Work Report:
Delivering on Talent by Marius Popescu. The report is produced under the auspices of the International Gas
Union (IGU) which holds the copyright (www.igu.org). The survey results will be presented during the Off-tie
meeting with the leading persons from energy sector on October 4th, 2016.
