ondayonday:: Warning There are many people these days who think they have all the answers:

• philosophers think they know the meaning of life; • scientists think they know how things work; • scholars think they know the answers to life; • preachers think they know all about God.

Unfortunately, very few people know nearly as much as they think they know. That’s why the Bible warns against: • Mark 12:38 ______________1 (scholars)

• Col 2:8 ________________ and ___________________2

• Matt 16:12 ______________3 of the Pharisees and Sadducees (heresies) The Bible also says to avoid: • 1Tim 6:20 _____________ and ________________________,4

oppositions of _____________5 falsely so called

• 2Tim 2:23 ______________ and _____________________________6 • Titus 3:9 ______________________ and ___________________, __________________,

Fortunately, the Bible not only contains God’s revelation about spiritual matters but is also com-pletely accurate in matters relating to philosophy, science, etc.

Write the following verses in the table below to show what scientific law the Bible ex-plains (long before science ‘discovered’ it): Gen 1:9; Gen 2:7; Gen 7:11; Deut 33:13-14; 2Sam 22:16; Josh 10:12-14; Job 25:5; Job 26:7; Job 28:5; Job 28:25; Job 36:27-28; Job 38:24; Job 38:25-27; Eccl 1:6; Isa 40:22; Acts 17:26; 1Cor 15:39; 1Cor 15:41; Col 1:17; Heb 11:3.

Scripture Geology & Geophysics 8 There is one worldwide ocean. 9 There are springs of water in the oceans. 10 Air pressure. Not until Galileo (1630) did scientists know that air had weight. 11 There are valleys and mountains in the ocean. 12 The earth's crust covers a layer of molten matter (lava and magma). Meteorology 13 The sun's energy powers the wind. 14 Lightning causes rain. 15 Wind moves in a circle, from the equator to the poles and back again.

Astrology 18 A computer ‘reenactment’ of the universe’s history shows a day is missing. 19 The moon does not shine, it only reflects the light of the sun. 20 There is a ‘hole’, or empty place located directly north in the universe. 21 The earth travels in a circle around the sun. 22 Stars have different intensities. Physics 23 Atomic structure. 24 An unknown force holds atoms together.

Biology 25 Human bodies contain the same 17 elements as dirt. 26 All human blood has a common gene [from Adam and Eve?]. 27 All animals do not have the same kind of flesh.

Preview This week you’ll see compare two opposing beliefs to explain the universe’s origin: evolution & creation. One of these contradicts scientific evidence but it hasn’t stopped many people from be-lieving it anyway. The other one is the only plausible explanation for the origin of the universe.

Evolution: the universe began [something came from nothing] between 13 and 20 billion years ago by a random, cosmic explosion (or expansion) of a subatomic ball that hurled space, time, matter and energy in all directions. Everything—the whole universe—came from this ini-tial speck of infinite density (existing outside of space and time). Since then this newly existent space, time, matter and energy evolved into remarkably-designed and fully-functional stars, gal-axies and planets, including life on our earth.

Creation: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Last week you learned that Jesus IS God (John 1:1-2)—his eternal nature. This week you will learn how Jesus created all things.

Bible Reading: John 1

According to Eph 3:9 who is this Word? ___________________31 What title is he given in 1Cor 8:6? _______32 You’ve already seen the same who, what and when of creation in Hebrews 1:10.

Write these invisible things above the picture that visualizes it: electricity, wind, heat, soul, atoms.

John 1:1-3 doesn’t give the details about how God created everything but some other verses do.

Write the synonyms from Psalm 33:6-9 in the blanks to show how God did it (notice the correlation between “the Word” of John 1:1 and how it is described in vs. 6 & 9).

ednesday: ednesday: How: conservation of energy One of the foundational laws of science is that the total amount of energy in the universe remains constant. Energy can be changed into another form (such as mat-

ter), but it can never be created or destroyed (except by an “external”, independent force). So according to this law, the universe now functions with the same amount of energy/matter it has always had (eternal—it had no beginning).

Circle the phrase in the evolution theory that contradicts this law.51 Evolution: the universe began [something came from nothing] between 13 and 20 billion years ago by the random, cosmic explosion (or expansion) of a subatomic ball that hurled space, time, matter and energy in all directions. Everything—the whole universe—came from this ini-tial speck of infinite density (existing outside of space and time). Since then this newly existent space, time, matter and energy evolved into remarkably-designed and fully-functional stars, gal-axies and planets, including life on our earth.

There are two problems with this explanation:

1. The universe that now exists (matter) came from nothing.

2. Some external force was needed to “jump start” it (Big Bang Theory).

Science has no possible explanation for where this matter and “energy” came from. But Gen 1:1

explains precisely where they come from (______52). Which word shows the universe came from

nothing other than God? _____________53 What words in 2Pet 3:3-4 show that the universe did

not evolve (_____________, ____________54).

Circle the word(s) that show nothing new has been added since God finished his work.

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.55

Heb 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.56 Eccl 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. 10Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.57

hursdayhursday:: How: consumption of energy Another important scientific law states there is less and less useable energy available as the universe gets more and more disorderly.

Circle the phrase in the evolution theory that contradicts this law.58 Evolution: the universe began [something came from nothing] between 13 and 20 billion years ago by the random, cosmic explosion (or expansion) of a subatomic ball that hurled space, time, matter and energy in all directions. Everything—the whole universe—came from this ini-tial speck of infinite density (existing outside of space and time). Since then this newly existent space, time, matter and energy evolved into remarkably-designed and fully-functional stars, gal-axies and planets, including life on our earth.

Circle the word in the verse below that shows the consumption of energy.

Rom 8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corrup-tion into the glorious liberty of the children of God.59

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Gen 1:2a And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. …

Circle the word(s) that show the universe is kept running by God.

2Pet 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers

fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.62

7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.63 Neh 9:6 Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.64 Psalm 78:69 And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath estab-lished for ever.65 Psalm 104:5 Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.66

What verse(s) in Gen 1 show each stage of “creation” (3rd row above)?
