Letter from the PresidentHello again, Saint Louis Pi Phis!

I don’t know about you, but I get so excited when the Fall edition of WingTips arrives in the mail, so full of possibilities ... Passport to Pi Phi is our theme for this year of programming, and this issue is your ticket to an exciting new year!

Conveniently nestled into this one publication is a complete listing of all our club programs and service projects for the next year, plus upcoming activities for our enthusiastic Young Alum interest group, a stimulating list of reads from our spirited Book Club, plus additional opportunities from our Explorers and Dinner Club ... whether you typically attend just one event each year, or I see you at every event (you know who you are!), or you have never been to an alum club function, the spirit of sisterhood awaits and is yours for the taking!

Kudos go to our Program co-VPs (Mary Gordon and Barb Zenser) and their dedicated program committee, along with the interest group chairs who have all been busy this summer planning your itinerary full of fun and friendship! You’ll want to hang onto this newsletter as your roadmap to a fantastic year — grab your passports and let’s get going!

Yours in wine and blue,

Pennsylvania Zeta ‘89 | (314) 962.4283 | [email protected] Curtis

There are more than 1,700 Pi Phis in the St. Louis area, but we are missing email addresses for more than half of you! The ever-increasing cost of postage makes sending hard copy mail throughout the year too costly for our club, so our monthly email update is an essential way to keep you informed of the latest updates on Pi Phi events and club activities.

To update your email, visit www.pibetaphi.org/updatemyprofile, or you can also send your updated contact information to [email protected]. Thank you for helping us improve our communications!

Are You on our emAil list?

teA PArtY with the Founders

The St. Louis Alumnae Club gathered on April 25, 2015 to celebrate Founders’ Day. The event, themed “Tea Party with the Founders,” was held at Algonquin Country Club. We had a great time celebrating the history of our Fraternity with heritage and sisterhood, and hats!

meet PennY!

At this year’s Pi Phi programs, we will introduce a new friend: Penny, the Pi Phi piggy bank! Grab your spare change* before you head out the door—all angel bank donations collected by the alum club will go directly to our service partner, The Little Bit Foundation, to benefit needy schoolchildren throughout the St. Louis area.

*Penny will also gladly accept paper bills and checks!

reAchinG new heiGhts At conventionMaryjane Hotaling and Bethany Curtis felt so privileged to represent the Saint Louis Alumnae Club at Convention in Chicago this summer. Saint Louis brought home accolades in club performance, communications and in giving to Pi Phi Foundation.

But they also brought back another bit of very exciting news: The celebration of the 150th anniversary of Pi Beta Phi at the 2017 Convention will take place in ... SAINT LOUIS! Mark your calendars for June 23–27, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch (the old Adam’s Mark hotel downtown).

Veteran members of our club will remember volunteering when the 1991 Convention was last held here in town. There is a lot to be done in preparation, but Headquarters has greatly expanded in the past 20 years, and the HQ staff has taken on many of the duties that local volunteers once did. The Fraternity is currently seeking a “local committee convention chair” who would support convention efforts by recruiting and managing a team of local volunteers.

Interested parties can get more information at www.pibetaphi.org/volunteernow. Chicago committee chair Kristi Nihiser, Ohio Epsilon, is also happy to answer questions about her recent experience; she can be reached at [email protected].

St Louis alum club’s gift to the Fraternity made the trip to Convention again this year ... The needlepoint ornament letters stitched by STL alumnae to commemorate the 100th anniversary of our club’s charter in 2010 was prominently displayed each night on the podium on stage!

On March 6, club members celebrated Fraternity Day of Service at Confluence Elementary School. We partnered with The Little Bit Foundation to put on a book fair. The Pi Phis assisted children in reaching and purchasing books of their interest.

Pink PArtY

The St. Louis Alums welcome collegians whose hometown is St. Louis — and who were home for the summer — to join us for a Pink Party! We wore pink, ate pink food, enjoyed a special Cookie Shine and shopped at Pi Phi Express.

Sign of the Arrow has settled into its new space at 9814 Clayton Road and wishes to thank the St. Louis Alumnae Club for their most generous donations over the past year. These donations have made the move to the new store both more comfortable and more efficient. Volunteers and staff are enjoying the new kitchen chairs daily either to eat lunch, letter a key chain or complete a purchase order. Customers are also benefiting from your generosity, as they can now more easily view products and canvases with the use of our new display fixtures.

As a member of the St. Louis Alumnae Club, you are a stakeholder of Sign of the Arrow, a nonprofit needlepoint and gift shop that has contributed more than $3.5 million to deserving St. Louis agencies and Pi Beta Phi educational programs since 1966. A few of last year’s recipients included: Pi Beta Phi Foundation, St. Louis Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship Fund, Gifted Resource Council, Haven of Grace and Dream Factory of St. Louis.

We encourage you to become an active participant in the shop and its cause by joining the ranks of our 80+ volunteers. Please contact Merry Gnaegy, (636) 537-9545, or [email protected].

Exciting times are ahead! August 1, 2016, will mark the 50th anniversary of Sign of the Arrow. Plans for celebrating this milestone have begun, so be watching for more information to come.

Mark your calendars for our Annual Philanthropy Brunch, Thursday, October 22 at 9:30 a.m. at Ladue Chapel, 9450 Clayton Road, 63124. All are welcome and there is no cost. RSVP by calling the shop, (314) 994-0606, by October 15.
