A sentence is a group of words that have their own meaning, function,

usage, and sense. A sentence has an important role in communication because we produced sentences to give statement, feeling, question, and give order to other.

When make an order, we usually uses imperative sentence. In every conversation, most of speakers use it to give command or request to other. In the school, it is usually used by the teacher to ask the student to do something for example doing

exercises, opening the book, collecting their homework, closing the door, cleaning the board, etc. In fact, most of people do not know how to use imperative sentence

correctly. It will be misunderstanding if we do not know about it. Because most of people like to watch movies, the writer relates this phenomenon by analyzing a movie that was “The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies” movie. The writer hopes

the reader can be easier to learn about imperative sentence. So, we can minimize misunderstanding when we speak with other.

The purpose of this research is to find out the answer from statement of the problems: (1) What are the kinds of imperative sentence used in English Subtitle

of The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies movie? And (2) What are the functions of those imperatives found in The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies movie

subtitle. This is a qualitative research. A qualitative research will not give the number or statistic but it depends on the knowledge of researcher in analyzing data because the data are reported in utterances.

The data source was taken from the subtitle of The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies movie. The data are collected from the utterances that produced by

the all characters that use imperative sentences.

In the result of the research, the writer found 234 imperative sentences found in “The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies” movie subtitle, those are: 185 affirmatives imperative, 24 negatives imperative, and 25 single verbs. Meanwhile

the function of imperative sentence the writer found 119 commands, 50 requests, 33 invitations, 15 warnings, and 17 prohibitions. The writer concludes that the

most of utterances that use imperative have a function to give direct order. It is usually used by the king or leader to their armies to do something.

By studying imperative sentence, we can know what the use of

imperative is not only to give command but also request, invite, warn, and forbid someone. It will be better if we should be learning about imperative to avoid misunderstanding with other.

Sebuah kalimat adalah sekelompok kata-kata yang memiliki makna

sendiri, fungsi, penggunaan, dan rasa. Kalimat memiliki peran penting dalam komunikasi karena kita menghasilkan kalimat untuk memberikan pernyataan,

perasaan, pertanyaan, dan memberikan perintah untuk lainnya. Ketika kita memberikan perintah, kita biasanya menggunakan kalimat imperatif. Dalam setiap pembicaraan, sebagian besar pembicara menggunakannya untuk memberikan

perintah atau permintaan. Di sekolah, biasanya digunakan oleh guru untuk menyuruh siswa melakukan sesuatu misalnya mengerjakan soal, membuka buku,

mengumpulkan pekerjaan rumah mereka, menutup pintu, membersihkan papan, dll. Kenyataannya, orang tidak paham bagaimana menggunakan kalimat imperative dengan benar. Hal tersebut dapat menimbulkan ketidak-pahaman jika

kita tidak mengetahui tentang kalimat imperative. Karena kebanyakan orang suka menonton film, penulis mengaitkan dengan fenomena tersebut dengan

menganalisis sebuah film yaitu film “The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies”. Penulis berharap, pembaca dapat mempelajari kalimat imperative dengan mudah. Sehingga dapat mengurangi ketidak-pahaman ketika sedang berbicara dengan

orang lain.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jawaban dari pernyataan masalah: (1) Jenis kalimat perintah apa yang digunakan dalam subtitle film The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies? dan (2) Apa fungsi imperative

tersebut yang ditemukan di The Hobbit: subtitle film The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. Ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Penelitian kualitatif tidak menyajikan

angka atau statistik tetapi itu tergantung pada pengetahuan peneliti dalam menganalisis data karena data yang didapat berupa ujaran.

Sumber data diambil dari subjudul film The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. Data diperoleh dari ucapan-ucapan yang dihasilkan oleh semua karakter yang menggunakan kalimat imperatif.

Dalam hasil penelitian, penulis menemukan 234 kalimat penting yang

ditemukan di Subtitle film "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies", yaitu: 185 affirmatives penting, 24 negatif penting, dan 25 kata kerja tunggal. Sementara fungsi kalimat imperatif penulis menemukan 119 perintah, 50 permintaan, 33

ajakan, 15 peringatan, dan 17 larangan. Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa sebagian

ujaran yang digunakan memiliki fungsi untuk memberikan perintah langsung. Hal ini biasanya digunakan oleh raja atau pemimpin kepada pasukan mereka untuk melakukan sesuatu.

Dengan mempelajari kalimat imperatif, kita dapat mengetahui

penggunaan kalimat tersebut tidak hanya untuk memberikan perintah langsung tetapi juga untuk meminta, mengajak, memperingatkan, dan melarang seseorang. Ini akan lebih baik jika kita harus belajar tentang kalimat imperatif untuk

menghindari kesalahpahaman dengan lainnya.
