OPIOID USE DISORDERS: THE DISEASE AND OUR RESPONSEStephen Delisi, MD, DABAM, FASAM, Assistant Dean, Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation – Graduate School of Addiction Studies

Prior to joining the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies as the Assistant Dean, Dr. Delisi served as the Midwest Regional Medical Director for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. Dr. Delisi graduated in 2001 from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, and served as chief resident in the Psychiatric Residency Program. He also participated in a Neuroscience Research Fellowship from Loyola University in Chicago and was awarded a NARSAD Young Investigator Award. Prior to joining the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, he held positions as director of Psychiatric Services at Rush Behavioral Health-DuPage and associate director of the Psychiatric Residency Program at Rush.

Dr. Delisi’s fields of interest include psychopharmacology, assessment and treatment of co-occurring SUD and MH disorders, neurobiology of addiction, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for depression and addiction, and adaptive

leadership. He is also active in community support and public advocacy to improve care delivery for individuals struggling with addiction and mental illnesses. He is board certified by both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He is also a graduate of the St. Thomas University Physician Leadership College, and has served on an Advisory Board for the Physician Leadership College. Dr. Delisi serves as the Assistant Dean and an Assistant Professor at the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction. He is also a staff psychiatrist with the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in Center City, MN.

In his career, Dr. Delisi has co-authored numerous presentations and published abstracts, many of which focus on mindfulness-based treatment. He has also co-authored three publications, two of which are supported by the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD).

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE: INTEGRATION AND COLLABORATION ACROSS SYSTEMSClaire Wilson, Assistant Commissioner for Community Supports Administration, Minnesota Department of Human Resources

Claire Wilson is assistant commissioner for the Community Supports Administration. Community Supports includes all DHS behavioral health policy areas, including the divisions of Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Disability Services, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, and Housing and Support Services. Wilson has more than two decades of experience in public policy and related issues.

Wilson came to DHS June 13, 2016, from the Minnesota Association of Community Mental Health Programs, where she served as executive director. In that role, she provided strategic and administrative leadership, creating coalitions of stakeholders to advance improvements in mental health. She has also served in a leadership role for the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, where her work included outreach to underserved communities. In addition, she was a 2013

Humphrey Policy Fellow at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

BUILDING A RECOVERY ECOSYSTEMAndre Johnson, President/CEO, Detroit Recovery Project

Andre L. Johnson is the President/CEO of the Detroit Recovery Project (DRP) – a multi-service agency that provides a wide spectrum of support services to the city’s recovery community. The agency also oversees an ex-offender program that helps returning citizens reintegrate successfully into the Detroit community, with an aim of reducing recidivism and/or relapse among this population. Since its inception in 2005, DRP has devoted more than $25 million (via federal, county and local awards) to its mission to help Detroiters who were once on the streets become drug-free and productive citizens.

Mr. Johnson has over 29 years of professional work experience, exemplifying a long-standing commitment and dedication to the field of substance abuse. Respected also for his people and negotiation skills, Mr. Johnson played an

integral role in re-establishing positive relationships between adolescents and their families at the Wolverine Human Services (Detroit). Mr. Johnson was also appointed by U.S. Secretary of Health of Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) - National Advisory Council. He is a member of the Detroit-Wayne Mental Health Authority Implementation Committee. Mr. Johnson is a board member of the Wayne Center – an agency that provides services for the mentally ill and the developmentally disabled.

Mr. Johnson is a former faculty member for the National Association of Drug Court Professionals/Drug Court Planning Initiative of the Faculty Training Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Morehouse College (Atlanta, Georgia) and a Masters of Arts degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix. Mr. Johnson is trained certified recovery coach and considered an expert in his field – he is invited frequently to present at seminars, workshops, and as a keynote or motivational speaker to not only those in recovery but youth, adults, families, and substance abuse professionals. In 2013, Mr. Johnson was the recipient of the prestigious Vernon Johnson award from Faces and Voices of Recovery, and in 2016 he was chosen as a recipient of the Champions of Change Award from President Obama.
