n behalf of the Los Angeles Jazz Institute I am pleased to
invite you to join us for Encores in Big Band Jazz, a multi-day JazzFestival celebrating the immenselegacies of both the Stan Kentonand Woody Herman Orchestras.
Although both bands had their own unique musical concepts, there has always been a commonthread uniting their many fans. Both bands came to prominenceduring the swing era and were both incredibly successful. After the swing era when manybandleaders were calling it quits, both Kenton and Herman continued to explore new musicaldirections and attract new generations of fans. Their combined list of alumni is an amazing who’s who of Jazz covering well over a 50 year period.
Encores in Big Band Jazz celebrates these two legaciesby featuring both Herman andKenton alumni leadingtheir own groups as well asspecial concerts featuringthe original Kenton and Hermanarrangements. It looks to be another amazing Festival and I hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Ken PostonFestival Director
