From our base in Cannes, we explore the hilltop villages ofVallauris (with its Pablo Picasso museum) and Mougins, and get to know pretty An-tibes, with a vibrant old quarter and a château that houses yet another museum dedicatedto Picasso. In the afternoon wecontinue on to Lake Maggiore and the delightful town of Pallanza. From here, weexplore the famed Borromean Islands (Bella, Pescatori and Madre) by boat. We alsovisit gardens at Villa Taranto and Isola Bella. One LUNCH, one DINNER.OVERNIGHT – PALLANZA� Days 4-6 (Wednesday-Friday)Leaving Lago Maggiore, we soon arrive at our second lake, Como, and explore thecity of Como. We also explore charming Bozen (Bolzano), capital of Italy’s German-speak-ing region known as Süd Tirol (the Italians call it Alto Adige). Here, we take in Bozen’sAustrian-like center and visit museums, including the SüdtirolerArchäologiemuseum, charting 34,000 years of human habitation in these valleys. � Days 1-3 (Sunday-Tuesday)From the airport in Biarritz, France, it’s just 45 minutes to the old Spanish Basquetown of Hondarribia and its medieval center – a castle built in the 900s and today aluxury inn. Later we move on to lovely San Sebastian, one of Spain’s most beautifultowns, lying on the curve of a graceful bay. During our three days here, we will see thesights in town and also explore the coast around Getaria, where we visit a museumdevoted to native son Cristobal Balenciaga, the fashion designer. In addition, weenjoy the Basque tradition of “pinxos,” bite-sized tapas eaten standing up in a bar, andTxacoli, a slightly effervescent white wine.Three LUNCHES, including one in a typi-cal Basque restaurant called a sidreria, where hard cider is a delicious, all-you-can-drinkaffair. Here, in pretty Pauillac, we learn about this fabled wine zone witha visit to a top winery. Later we arrive in St. Emilion, a lovely stone village, where weexplore the underground church and visit a fascinating pottery museum (much moreinteresting than it sounds). One lunch, one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – ST. EMIL-ION� Days 3-5 (Tuesday-Thursday)Into northern Dordogne we head for the delightful, riverside town of Brantôme, withits abbey founded by Charlemagne in 769. Over the next three days we get to knowBrantôme as well as: the nearby villages of St. Jean-de-Côle and Bourdeilles; the Celto-Roman city of Périgueux, boasting an enormous, curiously domed church; and theChâteau of Hautefort, so scenic that French moviemakers flock there. One LUNCH,one DINNER. OVERNIGHT – BRANTOME� Days 6-11 (Friday-Wednesday)We move to lovingly preserved Sarlat, whose center is said to contain the most perfectensemble of renaissance buildings in Europe. Sarlat will delight you with its Saturdaymarket, considered one of the best in France. It’s also the perfect excursion center forvisits to: Domme, a hilltop village with the prettiest views in the Dordogne; theChâteau des Milandes, once owned by American jazz singer-dancer Josephine Baker;the riverside villages of la Roque Gageac and Beynac; and Rocamadour, a pilgrimagecenter from the middle ages up to today. We also visit: the village of Les Eyzies, lyingin what the French call the “center of prehistory”; the National Museum ofPrehistory, celebrating the discovery in 1868 of Cro-Magnon man; Lascaux IV, arecently opened (winter 2016) exact reproduction of the paintings in the originalLascaux, considered the “Sistine Chapel” of prehistoric cave art; the curious cliffdwellings of Roque St. Christophe; and the cave of Font-de-Gaume, featuring thelast polychrome (multi-colored) prehistoric paintings in Europe still open to the public.Two DINNERS and one LUNCH, as well as a picnic with local products from theSaturday market in Sarlat. � Day 12 (Thursday)As we leave Dordogne, we come to old Monpazier, a bastide (“new” town of the 13thcentury). Here we enjoy sightseeing and free time before moving on to a Michelin-starred LUNCH at the restaurant La Tour des Vents. Late in the day we arrive at ourhotel at the Bordeaux Airport. General Information1. What’s Included: Lodging in double room with private bath for the 12 tour nightsas outlined in the tour itinerary (lodging for any pre- or post-tour night is at yourexpense); single room upon payment of single supplement; breakfast daily and othermeals as specified in the tour itinerary; admissions to the many attractions visited by thegroup; transportation by nine-passenger van or by mini-bus; the services of an experi-enced Intimate France guide.2. What’s NOT Included: Airfare from U.S. to Europe; wine and other beveragesand food not on the regular table d’hôte menu; sightseeing not part of the tour itinerary;personal expenses such as telephone, laundry and mini-bar; lodging for any pre- or post-tour night not part of the 12 tour nights as outlined in the tour itinerary.3. Itinerary: No change in the general itinerary is expected, but unforeseen circum-stances may require alterations in route, accommodations or tour visits. The final touritinerary issued to participants as part of the Ready, Set, Go booklet is controlling, in theevent of conflict with earlier, preliminary itineraries. For good cause the Tour Directormay, at his/her discretion, alter aspects of the itinerary once the tour is under way.

4. Minimum Tour Size: Intimate France reserves the right to cancel a tour and refundall payments in case of insufficient bookings. In the unlikely event this should happen, youwill be notified no later than 30 days before departure. You should know that Intimate Francehas never canceled a tour once a commitment was made to operate that tour.5. Tour Elements: Once the tour is under way, alteration of itinerary details or can-cellation of specific visits is not cause for a refund.6. Smoking: Smoking is not allowed while with the tour group.7. Currency Fluctuations: In case of significant currency fluctuations, a currencysurcharge may be added to the tour price. This surcharge will be based on the exchangerate in effect during the time of the tour.

8. Baggage: Participants must be able to carry their own bags. Because van space islimited, you are limited to one suitcase (no larger than 4,608 cubic inches, or 12 by 16 by24 inches or equivalent) and one small hand bag. Tour Director, at his/her discretion,may require a participant to leave excess bags in storage at the beginning of the tour.

9. Physical Condition: You should be in good physical condition and prepared toclimb hotel stairs and walk 2-3 miles per day. Some hotels do not have elevators.

10. Membership: To ensure congenial membership, Intimate France reserves the rightto accept or reject any person as a tour participant and to expel from the tour any par-ticipant whose conduct is deemed incompatible with the interests of the tour group.

11. Travel Documents: It is the responsibility of each participant to obtain a validpassport. Visas are not required for U.S. citizens to enter Western Europe at this time.

12. Publicity: Photographs may be taken of tour participants and used by IntimateFrance for promotional purposes.

13. Insurance: Tour participants understand that to keep costs down, Intimate Francehas only limited liability insurance coverage to protect itself, the actions of its agents, ortour participants themselves, and participants willingly assume the many risks inherent intravel abroad. Participants must sign and submit a Booking Form at time of reservation.

14. Supplemental Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend optional, compre-hensive travel insurance to cover baggage and non-refundable airfare and tour payments.Intimate France does not insure belongings of tour participants against theft or loss.15. Booking, Deposit and Refunds: A deposit of $750 per traveler is due attime of booking (checks only, please). The balance is due 90 days before departure date(or immediately upon booking if booked within 90 days of departure). If tour balanceis not received by Intimate France within 10 days of due date, Intimate France reserves theright to cancel your booking and retain your deposit.Deposit refund policy – Deposit is refundable if you cancel within 15 days of the dateIntimate France receives your deposit. Thereafter, the deposit becomes non-refundable.Tour payment refund policy – Any cancellation after full payment will result in arefund of 75% of tour cost minus non-refundable deposit only if a substitute occupantis found for the specific hotel accommodation of the canceling person. No refund ispossible for anyone starting but not completing the tour, or for unused meals or otherservices during the tour. (Optional travel insurance will often cover these losses.)

16. Client Accounts: Expenditures made on your behalf by Intimate France will benoted and billed to you at the end of the tour. You agree to pay this bill within 30 daysof receiving it.

17. Release and Hold Harmless: I am (we are) aware that by participating in anIntimate France tour, I am (we are) assuming substantial risks including, but not limited to,the hazards of traveling in Europe, by bus, van or other means, as well as accidents, theft,illness, acts of war or terrorism, and forces of nature. I (we) understand that IntimateFrance and its employees and agents (hereafter known collectively as Intimate France) haveonly minimal liability insurance to protect themselves and me in the event of an automo-bile accident or other mishap.

In consideration of Intimate France’s willingness to lead this tour for the price paid and onthe terms and conditions agreed to; and my (our) right to participate in this tour for suchprice and on such terms and as part payment for such right to participate in the tour, I (we)agree that Intimate France shall not be liable to me or my (us or our) heirs or assigns, and I(we) hereby release them and hold them harmless from any such liability for accident, loss(including personal injury, death, or property damage), injury or damage to me or my (us orour) possessions caused by or in any way related to tour accommodations, food service,transportation, sightseeing or other services, defects in vehicles, breakdown in equipment,strikes, theft, delay, acts of war or terrorism, cancellation or changes in itinerary or sched-ules, or from any act or omission of Intimate France, even if negligent, unless such act oromission constitutes intentional, willful and wanton misconduct by Intimate France.

I (we) have and do hereby assume all the above risks and will hold Intimate Franceharmless, and indemnify them from any and all liability, actions, causes of action, debts,claims and demands of every kind and nature whatsoever that may arise from or in con-nection with this tour or my (our) participation in any tour activities. Any action that mayarise under the terms of this agreement shall be decided in Alameda County SuperiorCourt, California. This agreement will be construed under the laws of the State ofCalifornia. It is also agreed in the event of any legal action, the prevailing party shall beentitled to reasonable attorney’s fees and costs.

The conditions stated above and in the Release and Hold Harmless Agreement shallbind or benefit, as the case may be, the heirs, assigns, executors, and administrators ofmyself (ourselves), and Intimate France.16
