Dr. Abhilasha Singh lit the Diwali Diya, which was then followed by everyone singing along to the tunes of Jai Lakshmi Maata. After Arti, the thaali and prasad was passed around to everyone present. It made all of us realize that we all were part of a family- IMT family. The cultural events for the day were kicked off with Dr Abhilasha expressing thanks to all the sponsors and participants. Hosted by Bakshish Anand and Priyanka Narayanan, the evening air reverberated with traditional Dandiya music which slowly gave way to Disco music. Fantastic performances by the international students and DCP students

Every chance to add a desi flavour to our pardesi lives is precious. No matter where we are, we Indians hug our traditions close to our hearts. The Diwali celebrations organized by the ECAC committee at IMT Dubai brought into our hearts the spirit and joy of the festive season. Being held as part of the Diwali celebrations, the Disco Dandiya fiesta brought all the IMTians together as a family and spread the spirit of Diwali all around.The preparations started with gusto in the afternoon when people started setting up food and game stalls. This year there was a variety

of stalls both from members outside the campus and from the IMT students. Indulgence, Circle K, Punjabi Thaath, and Bravo were amongst those who put up food stalls. As for the game stalls, 7up 7down, jail break, dart games etc. were quite a hit amongst the students and visitors. At 7pm, all were requested to join the faculty and other staff members in the recreational room for Lakshmi Pooja and Arti. The beau-tiful decorations, the idols, the incense sticks, the rangoli and the diyas truly brought to mind the feel of a mandir. Spirituality and the feeling of oneness filled the air as

Date: Venue : AmphitheatreTime : 8:00 pm The much anticipated freshers party took place on 12th October. There was a lot of curiosity, hope and enthusiasm amongst the fresh-ers. This was the medium through which the seniors formally welcomed us juniors as a part of the IMT DUBAI family. We were joined by our faculty members who judged the talent show and the Mr and Ms Fresher competition.

The party started off with a soulful song ‘Tinka Tinka’ by Madhvi Bhatia, who also later in the even-ing won the title of the ‘Face of the Evening’. There was also some beautiful numbers performed by Abhishek and Kartik, but the perfor-mance of the evening was by Pran-thar who sung the song ‘Aahatein’ from Splitsvilla. It was so good that

the audience asked for an encore, to which he duly obliged. This fresher’s party truly had brought to the fore, the budding singing talents present at IMT Dubai. To add more colour to the evening, there was some uncanny mimicry of Nana Patekar, done by Vidhit and Prateek, which left everyone in splits by the end of it. And things just got better when the exchanged students too came up with a very special performance of their own…. Was absolutely great seeing the

exchange students coming forwardand showing off their talents with such enthusiasm. Then came the fashion show, which was the highlight of the evening. The partici-pants were all stylishly dressed and suited up; they possibly could have given any show stopper from the fashion industry, a run for their money.

Food joints play the most important role for any educational institution. First thing students do is, find out about the places for having good food especially when they are away from home. All factors are considered then- quality, services, price, ambience, location and so on.

Keeping the above things in mind the perfect getaway for IMTians is Indulgence. It’s got a very relaxed ambience where students can take their mind off studies and indulge in some scrumptious food or just play PSP or board games with their friends. It’s got a very homely feeling as the staff is very friendly and always has that enigmatic smile on their faces. But it’s not just the staff and ambience which lures you to Indulgence. The place has a heavenly spread of food to offer. There’s something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds ranging from pizzas, pastas and sinful shakes.

The best part about Indulgence is that it’s not too heavy on the pocket so students can go binge without feeling guilty.

Graduation is the stepping-stone into the real life. It sends you into the real world prepared to face the realities of life. It also helps find your place in the society and work towards bettering yourself. What I am here to talk about has something to do with finding that place in the society which I was talking about.

On being asked about him as a student:“I was a very studious person. I always bagged the top position in maths and Science. I always used to be the favourite of all the teach-ers. Having studied in the Army School – Kapurthala, since 5th grade, I was a much disciplined child. I was very good at sports. I was the best athlete.In my college life, I had participated in various inter-college sports. Owing to my interest in cricket and athletics, I have had the great opportunities of playing with cricket-ers Mohinder and Surinder Amar-nath. Also, as an athlete, I have got a chance to interact with Milkha Singh and Dhyan Singh. I got great encouragement from them.

The journey after that and his baseline modus operandi:I started my career with R&D, developing formulations, for Hindu-stan Photo Films, Ooty. Later, I joined ISI, New Delhi and was the head of the SQC and OR Unit. I have also worked with the Japa-nese group, Tabuchi, in the field of robust designing and the use of methods like concurrent designing. I was the Chairman of the National Committee, set up by BIS on devel-opment of Standards for Statistical methods for Quality and Reliability. I am a life member of the Indian Association for quality and reliabil-ity. Also, I have worked for around 250 industries of India (such as LG Electronics, Samtel group of indus-tries, Reliance Industries Limited, R systems International ltd., etc.)

providing consultancy in the use of Quantitative methods in the indus-try.I have guided M. Tech. disserta-tions and company projects and supervised 2 Ph.D. students. I have undertaken 12 international projects, 7 with R-systems ltd. (US company) on modelling and optimi-zation. I have also undergone Six Sigma training for Black Belt. In IMT, I have held the position of the professor, Operations Management and the Dean, MBA Programme.

Dealing with handling these responsibilities and philosophy followed:I follow the philosophy of dealing with people with human touch. I focus on the development of the people and encourage them to develop skills and get trained. Also, I give the benefit of doubt in the favour of students, always encour-aging them for hard work and appreciating their efforts.

Message to students:Yes, I would like to convey the message to all my students that academic excellence and your overall personality are the most important factors which will help you reach great heights in life. They will help you face the competitive world. Keep learning since it a continuous process. It doesn’t end with the university and the moment you stop learning, is the beginning of an end. Lastly, I give my best wishes to all my students for excel-ling in all the things they pursue.

Our college IMT Dubai (has a ring to it, doesn’t it? Say it out loud and you’ll know what is being talked about) guides us in finding that spot by helping us find a job in the company that you might fancy. Although writing and reading about it here may make it seem simple, but it isn’t. It takes a lot of time, dedication and a lot of networking to get through to companies and people and get them to come to our college. Now the opportunity given to us should be utilized to the fullest extent possible. To find out how the current placement scenario is, we have Ms. Meghavi, the placement coordinator of IMT Dubai to talk about it. One of the first questions you might ask is about the recession. Always start with the fun topic, that’s what I believe in. Even if it seemed like Dubai has crept out of recession that is not exactly the case out there. The layoffs this year have increased compared to last year. The placement scenario will improve towards the II quarter of this year. So that is good news to most of the people who are graduating this year.The second question is obviously more inclined towards what it takes for us to get in. Ms. Meghavi says, “ Dubai is a different market from the rest of the world. People should be open to multi task and also should be open to relocate to other regions in GCC. A driving license is a must and Arabic gives you that edge over the rest.” Attitude is very important in this part of the world. A positive attitude helps not only in the placements but also in exceling in the company once you are a part of it.

Most of the companies that have hired from us in the previous years are happy and satisfied with the quality of the students passing out of our institute. But they also say that there is a scope for improvement. They look forward to coming to our college and are loyal “partners”. With that, Ms. Meghavi along with Dr. Waheed and Dr. Vimi wish the graduating batch all the very best in their future endeavors.

Next Mr. Nitin Nayak from Enter-prise Business Technologies (EBT), India and UAE gave us an overview of Microsoft ERP (Dynamics NAV). Nitin is a Char-tered Accountant with 14+ years of ERP and Accounting System expe-rience. He has been part of many implementation teams to success-fully deliver ERP Solutions to diverse clients across various Industry segments and geogra-phies. He has been part of the Microsoft Dynamics world for the last 7 years and brings with him a specialization in the finance.

Manikandan SP who is an IT Project Manager in Emarat, UAE told us about the benefits of ERP. A certified Project Management Professional, holding a Masters degree in Computing and Informa-tion systems. He has an overall experience of 14 years in IT, Retail and Training, of which over 10 years have been in ERP projects and project management positions. He has been extensively involved in projects of various sizes and magnitude over these years and is currently working as an IT project manager for a UAE based Petro-leum Company.

The important points discussed by the three speakers included ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) as a concept, Working of Microsoft Dynamics, Navision, from which Dynamics came into being -originated in Denmark, Implemen-tation with minimal disruption,

Modules in dynamics NAV, Benefits of ERP. The speakers shared their own experiences in this field and also made use of great examples to help us relate with the topic. The workshop gave all of us practical details on how a management gradu-ate can further his/her career with ERP solutions.Prof. Ali Zalzala concluded the lecture by inform-ing us about how to obtain a Microsoft Certified Professional qualification which would provide added value to us. All the students found the lecture an enriching experience.

Marketing in HR & at-tributes of a great salesperson todayMr. Sanjay Sen, Chief Human Resource Officer of the Dubai Group was invited to speak on the topic ‘marketing in HR and the attributes of a great salesperson today’. Mr. Sen comes with over 25 years of rich and varied experience in all aspects of the Human Resource function across different industries and geographies. Prior to joining Dubai Group, he was with Citigroup where during his tenure of 12 years, he worked as the HR Head and in Regional Global Talent Development roles across Asia, Europe and USA. He has also worked in Gillette and the Oberoi Hotel Group during his early years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Human Resources from The Xavier Institute, India.

In his lecture, he mentioned how the Kotler concepts are applied in HR and stating that the organisation needs to prioritize the well being of their internal customers (employees) as they are the gears that keep the machine moving and hence there comes the importance of marketing in HR. From his experience he also shared what he saw were necessary attributes of a successful marketer and how one can learn to develop them. In the end many new ideas sprung from questions put up by students which made the whole lecture an interactive one.

LeadershipDr. Kamal K. Jain, Faculty OB & HR, IIM IndoreDate:- 25th September, 2011Dr. Kamal K. Jain, faculty of OB & HR from IIM Indore, was invited to share his knowledge and views on leadership. The students of both IMT Dubai Full time M.B.A program and IMT Ghaziabad PGDM (Dual Country Program) attended this lecture.Dr. Kamal K. Jain has done his doctorate from Agra University, India. He received merit scholarship from the Ministry of Education, UP Government and Agra Univer-sity for being a meritorious student. Prior to joining IIM Indore, he was working as Professor of Strategic Management/HR with University Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia. He worked in this university for more than 5 years. He has a teaching experience of more than 32 years and has held various academic and administrative positions. He has supervised 8 Ph. D candidates so far and is a visiting faculty of many universities all round the globe.The lecture was an interesting session as the problems and roles of a leader were explained with interesting examples in the form of videos and his past experiences. The reasons of some problems which leaders commonly face and the role played by trust in the organization and the followers were also explained. Dr. Kamal K. Jain also focused on what will be the need of the future and how the role and technique of leadership will

change. He enlightened the students on how the leaders should always be prepared for the change by which they can make optimum use of the opportunities and gain the first mover advantage.The session was interactive where the students shared their views and their doubts were cleared by Dr. Jain. He also invited the students to the campus of IIM Indore, India. The students enjoyed the session and appreciated the initiative taken by the institute to organize such a valuable session.

I n t e r n a t i o n a l Business & Trade in the UAEMr. Vikram ShahNoted Businessman & IMT alumniDate:- 26th September, 2011Vikram Shah; a noted businessman and an IMT alumni returned to the Dubai branch of his alma mater after nearly half a year, but this time as a speaker, rather than a partici-pant in the event. For him most of the faces were different but the enthusiasm and eagerness to learn from the students remained as high as the last time he had been here.His topic for discussion in the lecture was on how international business and trade works in Dubai and how his rich experience and MBA degree has made him an expert on the topic, both in the theoretical and practical sense. From being an IMT student to marketing in charge (OIB, Muscat) to a marketing manager (Giordano) to a self made business man (AGT) in a brief span of time, it truly has been an incredible journey till date. Yet Vikram does not believe that it is of utmost importance to under-stand all the ins and outs of the trade.He began by conducting an interac-tive session with his audience on Inco terms and what they meant, what significance they had when

Organizational BehaviourMr.M.A ShaheerudeenDirector-HR & Training,IraqDate:- 15 September, 2011Mr. Shaheeudheen, Dir. HR Divan Erbil was invited for sharing his knowledge and experience, in the field of HR with the students at IMT Dubai. The DCP students as well as the full time MBA students of IMT Dubai attended the lecture. Mr. Shaheeudheen has pursued MBA from University of Bolton, UK. He has over 10 yrs of experience of HR and Talent management with active involve-ment in various aspects of HR and related functions. Having successfully worked with the hospitality industry across Middle East and Africa, he has been instrumental in driving high perfor-mance culture with distinct growth opportunities across various teams. In addition he is also an accredited neuro language practitioner, empow-ering people to deliver their potentials using their own mind language, behaviour and attitude. He has authored and published a book on the obser-vation of human behaviour namely “Stillness if Silence”. Currently, he is managing the HR pre-opening requirement for a five star hotel as Director of HR & Training in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The key points discussed in the lecture were organizational behaviour, influences causing changes in the behaviour, measuring behaviour, value system, emotional intelligence, compo-nents to be managed, progressive and transfor-mational behaviour, activities, Maslow’s theory, performance management and talent manage-ment. He shared his immense knowledge in the field through various interactive examples. He demonstrated how OB played an important role not only in the corporate world but also in every field of our lives. One exhilarating example was of Yanni manifesting the role of the OB in the world of music. Mr. Shaheeudheen shared another example of the movie K19: The widowmaker. He also suggested the names of veteran authors whose books can be referred to gain further knowledge in the field.

The lecture concluded with Mr. Shaheeudheen clearing queries and doubts of the students. The lecture was enjoyed by one and all present there, with everyone hoping that there may be more of such knowledgeable lectures in the future.

The hall was filled with students of all the three types of courses i.e. MBA, MBA (DCP) and Evening Batch.The First speaker Mr. Gopal Salim working for Wisdom IT, UAE spoke about ERP essentials. He is a MA Econometrics, MBA in Operations and Marketing, M Phil (Economics) and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management. He carries 30 years of industrial experi-ence in banking, finance and technology industry, 12 years of experience at corporate level in a

Coming to the main point of discus-sion i.e. Gender Intelligence, she said it is important to take into view the full picture and not stereotype. She pointed out the fact that there is a difference between gender and sex – While sex is male and female, Gender refers to masculine and feminine. She engaged the students in a small activity wherein they were to say whether the statements were facts or fiction. The nature of state-ments made the activity really interesting resulting into a healthy conflict between the girls and boys. Following the activity she discussed Lenses of Conditioning viz. Paren-tal, Societal and Institutional. She also highlighted the effects of Gender Stereotyping on the work environment.The lecture was concluded with career tips for both men and women on how to manage the opposite gender. The lecture helped us all in learning about the importance of Gender Intelligence

Ms. Neeru Singh, our guest speaker, enlightened the student gathering, with a wonderful showcase of experience, highlight-ing the importance of the subcon-scious self. She articulated the idea and emphasized the need for people to believe in their abilities, filtering out the conflicting judgmen-tal opinions of others. Involving the audience, a pre-requisite for any successful workshop, was properly taken care of by our guest speaker. For instance, a five-minute medita-tion session was carried out, aimed at helping the audience to identify and visualize their respective fears, taking control of them and eventu-ally making an attempt to get rid of them.The guest speaker gave a number of situational as well as experience based examples that constantly kept the audience pondering. She urged the students to know and identify their talents and to trust themselves to excel in them. She reiterated the importance of realizing that past experiences have a bearing on our fears, our course of action and our level of self-belief. She also stressed about how making the present moment count, is what determined how close or how far we end up from our various objectives.

Mr. Valery Ollivier graced our campus with his esteemed presence to throw light upon the tools used at Algorithmics and how clients use them for risk mitigation. He is the current regional manager of Algorithmics in the Middle East region, has many years of experience in risk management and risk management solutions, having previ-ously worked for Bloomberg, Murex, Reuters, National Bank of Canada and Bancomer. This experience puts him in a unique position to discuss how risk management tools are applied within the world’s foremost financial solutions.Algorithmics is the world leader in enterprise risk solu¬tions, dedicated to helping financial institu-tions under¬stand and manage risk. The lecture broadened our horizons on the type of risks involved in the financial world. He started the lecture with enterprise risk management and spoke about the three types of risks involved namely operational, market and credit. He spoke about how his 28 year old company which has 800 employees is working to develop and sell software to calculate risk. This software helped the Middle Eastern banks like Riyadh and Emirates NBD to realise what went wrong during the 2008 crisis and how they could have averted it. Algorithmics was recently acquired by its biggest competitor IBM.This session was a real treat especially for those students who wish to specialise in finance and risk management. It proved to be really helpful in giving an in depth understanding of what risks exist in an investment and then handling those risks in a way best suited to your investment objectives.

Villanova Meets IMTExhibiting the cultural, religious and economic dimension of UAE and Dubai in particular, IMT- Dubai played host to the students from Villanova University USA. A group of 35 US students were hosted on Campus for 2 weeks to conduct the “UAE familiarization program” for the second consecutive year. Located in Philadelphia, Villanova University is ranked amongst the top 25 business schools in the United States. This “UAE Familiarization Program” is a yearly event aimed at showcasing the diversity of United Arab Emir-ates. The main objective is to inform, update and acquaint the foreign students about not just the cultural and social but also economic develop-ments taking place all around UAE with special emphasis on the growth and tremendous rise that the city of opportunities, Dubai, has witnessed over the last several years. Within this framework, the students got a wonderful opportunity to visit various key organizations of the region such as Dubai Chamber of Commerce, DUCAB, DUBAL, Lamprell, and Dubai International Finance Centre, wherein they interacted with the concerned officials on various relevant issues to understand the functioning and management of the organization.

The responsible and concerned host that IMT-Dubai has been for years now, meant the entire experience turned out to be one that these foreign students are certainly going to cherish for a long time. The event organizers, faculty members, students and staff of IMT-Dubai can take pride by the kind of enthusiasm and excitement shown by the visiting students.

On the contrary, Sports is not “too” commercialized. “Too” here being the underling word.What makes an athlete the best? Training he receives--To be the best, he needs to train constantly using the best equipments,dietitians etc. All of these cost a lot of money which has to come from somewhere.His physical attributes that he was born with—these cannot be monetized as it is God given. But let’s for instance take a promising athlete from the slums of Delhi whose only opportunity of changing his social standing and that of his entire family is through sports. The sporting life span is 20 years at the maximum for any sport, so if he starts by the age of 15, he will be finished by age 35 if he is lucky.But what happens if his knees give in by the time he reaches 26? His career is over. Everyone forgets about him and he returns to the slums he came from. With this dies the hope of his decedents receiving things like…good healthcare,schoolsand an MBA at IMT Dubai etc.

Sports industry behaves the same way as every other “Industry”…whether it be the Finance, Defence or Commodities Industry.The laws of economics always comes into play! What is more, let us take those who have argued “For” sports being “too” commercialized. Say they �nd themselves working for a brand that wants to break into a market segment dominated by sports lovers, what would they do? They offer these athletes the best endorsement deals!! Why? Because these athletes command a lot of following! It is an Industry…we should remind ourselves of that.

Life @ IMTAbhishek ShuklaIMT-D(2011-2013 batch)Turnaround!! Yes indeed, that would be the word, if i have to sum up my first 20 days at IMT Dubai. I called up one of my friends back in India a couple of days having arrived in Dubai and she asked me, "How's Dubai treating you?" And i said i have had a warm reception everywhere I’ve been so far, quite literally with reference to the climate. Having known each other, over the social network, having made those plans, those fantasies and those probable adventures that we would be doing at IMT, it was now time to finally meet those people. There was a tinge of

nervousness bundled with loads of excitement. Talking of Diversity, there are people coming along from different parts of the world, majority coming from India. An interesting thing that happened and i and so many others were rather glad that, a seeming situation of group’s forma-tion depending on city based loyalties didn't really arise. Back to the days of my graduation, there were always a little groups developing based upon different criteria. IMT Dubai , for me has been a place where i have friends (already in 20 days) coming from various parts of the world , a few from UAE , one of them from Oman , a few from Sharjah , and the majority coming from possibly every street and corner of the world. I always wondered what a cosmopolitan city would be like. Dubai, its people and my batch mates have just made the experience possible. I always wondered what it would like living without the personal and emotional support of a family. For many of us it was a first little introduc-tion of the hostel life. But i tell you in only 20 days that i have spent here; i have found friends who i can rely upon even at odd hours. Now i realize why everyone kept telling me that IMT- Dubai is a family. As a fresher, all of us had a few apprehensions in mind. There have always been n number of things, said about an Institute, IMT-Dubai being no different, but if i had to give my opinion, i would say, an Institute is what you make of it. It’s what you do out there is what’s going to count. At IMT Dubai, if you are committed to put in a little effort, you would have the best two years of your life; coz Dubai they say is the land of opportunities and IMT Dubai is a big reflection of the same.

Simultaneously, we learnt to work as a team, to shoulder responsibilities at times of need, to organize, to work through the night if the situation demanded, to data mine and brain-storm – all of this to achieve the final target of obtaining the required result in a most efficient manner by the stipulated time, if not earlier.From a more emotional perspec-tive, we also learned to stand united both through good as well as bad times-even when our friendship and mettle were tested, to back a friend at times of his/her need, to be a support to the fellow-students who might be going through a tough phase academically or other-wise and to overall be one BIG happy family. Thus, IMT started becoming my epitome of ‘home away from home’.By general consent, the hostel and the corresponding accommodation facilities were found to be adequate if not surpassing our expectations. The sustenance of life has been ensured through the presence of the mess and though getting accus-tomed took some time, the cuisine has improved lately to amply satisfy our palate. The well-stocked library too has been of great academic help with it being a dependable source of books, journals and other literature readily available from morning till late night. The

Soon after, the workshop “Brand IMT” began and ideas for publicising IMT as a brand flowed in from all directions. Mr. Ridhesh Sharma suggested a public relation agency for the PR activities of the college. He also suggested a database for the alumni so as to keep in constant touch with them. Mentorship programs by the most successful alumni, more advertise-ments in magazines and newspa-pers, Sampark-e newsletter with the campus happenings for alumni, word of mouth promotion at work places etc. were a few other suggestions. As the workshop concluded, lunch was served at the college canteen followed by an informal session for the alumni. The session commenced with Madhur Vyas (2010 batch – IMT Dubai) sharing his experiences at the campus followed by Satnam Singh of IMT Ghaziabad. It revived the beautiful memories in the hearts of all present. Later followed a session of karaoke, where a few alumni sang and enjoyed themselves. As they parted with promises to keep in touch, the joy on their faces at having met their dear friends clearly showed that more of such occa-sions can be expected soon.The event was indeed a great success and the institute and its alumni look forward to more such gatherings.

Life @ IMTAbel AlexanderDCP(2011-2013 batch)‘A Home away from Home’- I had heard this for the first time when I was doing my schooling in a residential school. At that point of time, a number of us had- to put delicately, a ‘difference of opinion’ about that statement. But as our time neared to leave that nest, we started wishing otherwise, more than we had wished for anything else.Our undergraduate programs came and went with the blink of an eye with its quota of studies, tests and play (varying as per the individual).Most importantly, it taught us the true value of friend-ship and the miraculous effect it has on people. Then came the various manage-ment entrance exams (special focus on the CAT exam here) and we were fortunate enough to get enrolled in the IMT-Dual-country Program (DCP). First year in IMT-Dubai and then be back to our home-college in Ghaziabad. Dubai and IMT welcomed us with open arms on July 17th. Our batch was pretty versatile with its mix of expe-rienced and fresher’s alike, from

almost all industrial and service segments, thus providing a diverse group of capable individuals. Alumni Meet - 20119 December, 2011"Life isn't a matter of milestones, but moments." And as you go further down the lane those moments will be the most precious things in life. Especially the ones you spend with your friends, laughing, fighting and cribbing with no care for the world. Such moments were brought back to life when the alumni of the Ghaziabad and Dubai campus of IMT gathered on a beautiful Friday morning at the Dubai campus. This was the first ever Alumni meet of both the campuses organ-ised together. With the sun shining brightly as if in anticipation of a joyous day, the alumni of IMT began arriving on campus by 10:30 am. This was followed by Alumni registrations. The venue was soon filled with cheerful greetings and joyous laughter. By 12 PM the formal function commenced.Apoorva Dumra and Rohith Bhat, final year students, delivered the welcome address and invited the first registered students to light the lamp and inaugurate the function. After which, a video was played which showed the growth of IMT Dubai campus since its inception. The presi-dent and representatives of the “IMT Alumni Club” were also announced at the meet. Mr. Vikram Shah and Mr. Rohit Sawhney were elected as the president for the Ghaziabad campus and Dubai campus, respectively.Subsequently, Vikram Shah (1988 batch), Ridhesh Sharma (2010 batch) from the Ghazi-abad campus and Prateek Kewalramani, Raghav Sood and Rohith Sawhney from Dubai campus spoke of their times at the campus and mentioned a few ideas for the growth of the institute. But some of our biggest assets through IMT consisted of our chance to have learnt from the proficient professors, the infrastruc-ture provided and an opportunity to have been part of a diverse, competent yet united student community. I called up one of my friends back in India a couple of days having arrived in Dubai and she asked me, "How's Dubai treating you?" And i said i have had a warm reception everywhere I’ve been so far, quite literally with reference to the climate. Having known each other, over the social network, having made those plans, those fantasies and those probable adventures that we would be doing at IMT, it was now time to finally meet those people. There was a tinge of

nervousness bundled with loads of excitement. Talking of Diversity, there are people coming along from different parts of the world, majority coming from India. An interesting thing that happened and i and so many others were rather glad that, a seeming situation of group’s forma-tion depending on city based loyalties didn't really arise. Back to the days of my graduation, there were always a little groups developing based upon different criteria. IMT Dubai , for me has been a place where i have friends (already in 20 days) coming from various parts of the world , a few from UAE , one of them from Oman , a few from Sharjah , and the majority coming from possibly every street and corner of the world. I always wondered what a cosmopolitan city would be like. Dubai, its people and my batch mates have just made the experience possible. I always wondered what it would like living without the personal and emotional support of a family. For many of us it was a first little introduc-tion of the hostel life. But i tell you in only 20 days that i have spent here; i have found friends who i can rely upon even at odd hours. Now i realize why everyone kept telling me that IMT- Dubai is a family. As a fresher, all of us had a few apprehensions in mind. There have always been n number of things, said about an Institute, IMT-Dubai being no different, but if i had to give my opinion, i would say, an Institute is what you make of it. It’s what you do out there is what’s going to count. At IMT Dubai, if you are committed to put in a little effort, you would have the best two years of your life; coz Dubai they say is the land of opportunities and IMT Dubai is a big reflection of the same.

We also got the chance to experi-ence International exposure through interaction with students, professors and the multi-cultural, multi-national and multi-ethnic people residing in the Dubai emirate. Simultaneously, we learnt to work as a team, to shoulder responsibilities at times of need, to organize, to work through the night if the situation demanded, to data mine and brain-storm – all of this to achieve the final target of obtaining the required result in a most efficient manner by the stipulated time, if not earlier.From a more emotional perspec-tive, we also learned to stand united both through good as well as bad times-even when our friendship and mettle were tested, to back a friend at times of his/her need, to be a support to the fellow-students who might be going through a tough phase academically or other-wise and to overall be one BIG happy family. Thus, IMT started becoming my epitome of ‘home away from home’.By general consent, the hostel and the corresponding accommodation facilities were found to be adequate if not surpassing our expectations. The sustenance of life has been ensured through the presence of the mess and though getting accus-tomed took some time, the cuisine has improved lately to amply satisfy our palate. The well-stocked library too has been of great academic help with it being a dependable source of books, journals and other literature readily available from morning till late night. The

Soon after, the workshop “Brand IMT” began and ideas for publicising IMT as a brand flowed in from all directions. Mr. Ridhesh Sharma suggested a public relation agency for the PR activities of the college. He also suggested a database for the alumni so as to keep in constant touch with them. Mentorship programs by the most successful alumni, more advertise-ments in magazines and newspa-pers, Sampark-e newsletter with the campus happenings for alumni, word of mouth promotion at work places etc. were a few other suggestions. As the workshop concluded, lunch was served at the college canteen followed by an informal session for the alumni. The session commenced with Madhur Vyas (2010 batch – IMT Dubai) sharing his experiences at the campus followed by Satnam Singh of IMT Ghaziabad. It revived the beautiful memories in the hearts of all present. Later followed a session of karaoke, where a few alumni sang and enjoyed themselves. As they parted with promises to keep in touch, the joy on their faces at having met their dear friends clearly showed that more of such occa-sions can be expected soon.The event was indeed a great success and the institute and its alumni look forward to more such gatherings.

Life @ IMTAbel AlexanderDCP(2011-2013 batch)‘A Home away from Home’- I had heard this for the first time when I was doing my schooling in a residential school. At that point of time, a number of us had- to put delicately, a ‘difference of opinion’ about that statement. But as our time neared to leave that nest, we started wishing otherwise, more than we had wished for anything else.Our undergraduate programs came and went with the blink of an eye with its quota of studies, tests and play (varying as per the individual).Most importantly, it taught us the true value of friend-ship and the miraculous effect it has on people. Then came the various manage-ment entrance exams (special focus on the CAT exam here) and we were fortunate enough to get enrolled in the IMT-Dual-country Program (DCP). First year in IMT-Dubai and then be back to our home-college in Ghaziabad. Dubai and IMT welcomed us with open arms on July 17th. Our batch was pretty versatile with its mix of expe-rienced and fresher’s alike, from

almost all industrial and service segments, thus providing a diverse group of capable individuals. The excitement was contagious and continued to be so throughout our stay here.The initial days went by with ice-breaking sessions, under-standing the location, culture and the academic expectations IMT demanded of us. Especially the ones you spend with your friends, laughing, fighting and cribbing with no care for the world. Such moments were brought back to life when the alumni of the Ghaziabad and Dubai campus of IMT gathered on a beautiful Friday morning at the Dubai campus. This was the first ever Alumni meet of both the campuses organ-ised together. With the sun shining brightly as if in anticipation of a joyous day, the alumni of IMT began arriving on campus by 10:30 am. This was followed by Alumni registrations. The venue was soon filled with cheerful greetings and joyous laughter. By 12 PM the formal function commenced.Apoorva Dumra and Rohith Bhat, final year students, delivered the welcome address and invited the first registered students to light the lamp and inaugurate the function. After which, a video was played which showed the growth of IMT Dubai campus since its inception. The presi-dent and representatives of the “IMT Alumni Club” were also announced at the meet. Mr. Vikram Shah and Mr. Rohit Sawhney were elected as the president for the Ghaziabad campus and Dubai campus, respectively.Subsequently, Vikram Shah (1988 batch), Ridhesh Sharma (2010 batch) from the Ghazi-abad campus and Prateek Kewalramani, Raghav Sood and Rohith Sawhney from Dubai campus spoke of their times at the campus and mentioned a few ideas for the growth of the institute. Sure enough, this is what one would expect in any MBA college- it after all is to prepare you for tougher challenges in life ahead, and more importantly, you also learn how to co-exist and work with different sorts of people. Once in a working atmosphere, we don’t get the liberty to choose whom we want to be working with in a team, so in a way, through the group presenta-tions and projects, the MBA curricu-lum does ensure that you learn to co-exist and work in a group and meet deadlines under pressure. “All work and no play” ….. of course not …. this MBA wasn’t all the time about breaking your heads in work. There’s ample scope to kill off time by “not studying” all the time. I doubt people would forget that easily, the long sessions talking and narrating stories in the hostels, and also while on long walks around IMT’s boundaries. Add to that, visiting malls, hangouts, new eateries (never hesitate from experimenting in this department!!), late night movie shows, exploring the nightlife in the city, the road trips to other nearby places in the UAE etc. I think another thing that I’m sure people certainly would remem-ber, is the special tradition in which birthdays are celebrated out here. All those who were “victims” of the tradition would certainly know what I’m referring to :PWe’ve got just about another semester to go out here, before the curtain draws on our MBA journey here at IMT…and despite how much people out here would probably want the journey to be extended for a little more longer, we all know it had to come to an end someday anyways. At the end of the day, the one thing that’s going to last after this MBA, other than the knowledge acquired through this program, would be the RELATION-SHIPS that we have made out here. Sure enough we’ve had our good times together with others, and at the same time, some of us would have had our differences

with others, but at the end of the day, it is important that everyone learns their lessons from each incident and move ahead, as well as value the relationships that we’ve had for as long as they last. I look forward to another fun semester out here at IMT …. Hope-fully this upcoming semester serves as the icing on the cake, for what has been quite a memorable experience.

Fresh off the Boat - Inauguration

Amidst loads of excitement, the much awaited fresher’s sports meet finally kicked off to a start. We began with the inaugural ceremony at 06:30 pm on Thursday, 6th of October. The IMT crowd was thrilled with the three major sports events of the evening. First, the girls’ throw ball match between the senior and the juniors , followed by the Volleyball match between the DCP senior teams and last but by no means the least , the Volleyball match between the Fresher’s batch of 2011 and their senior counter-parts. The atmosphere all around the ground was absolutely electri-fying, with the noise of crowd and loud music being cherry on the cake. With the sun settling down ever so beautifully, the artificial lights took over. As they say, first things first, so the inaugural speech was given by Aditi Agarwal , representing the Sports Commit-tee. Following the tradition of IMT, our respected in-house faculty members, Dr Mohan Lal Agarwal and Dr Abhilasha Singh initiated

It doesn’t seem too long ago, when I’d walked into the IMT campus, and starting living the “MBA dream”. I for one, had come down here having some years of work experience behind me, unlike more than half my batch, who were fresh under-graduates coming straight out of college. I guess in the beginning, two things always played in the back of my mind. One was how I would get along with my class mates especially if there were going to be more of fresh undergraduates who’d come straight out of college. The second challenge and possibly bigger one, was how I was going to get back in the so called “study” mode after working for the last 4 years odd!! Sure enough there was the so called nervous energy that we all had on Day 1 (orientation day!) ….. but then, one of my younger batch mates came up and introduced herself to me….she was going around introducing herself to others, and this in a way, was probably just the encouragement (or spark as some call it!) I needed to break the ice with others. This helped calm me down through the rest of the day, and slowly start mingling from other people. The fact is she till date is one of my better friends out here on this campus �. Life at IMT slowly raveled on…. It helped that our whole batch (boys) were housed in a single hostel, so we were one well connected unit. This also did help when we had to work in group assignments and other projects. A normal routine in IMT comprised of making an arduous effort to get up in the mornings, and attend the early morn-ing sessions. On an average, we’d have 2-3 lectures per day, and the rest of the time, was spent with our batch mates either working or just spending time getting to know the others better. The lectures went by, and slowly but surely, we began to feel the pressure of keeping up to schedule of making presentations for the courses, catching up with our lessons, and getting loaded with assignments and quizzes.

Juniors was the third & the last match of the day after the matches between different teams of seniors & girls. Both the teams were very enthusiastic and as the match was the first match between juniors & seniors everyone was looking forward to this match. John Michael of Senior 1 & Asheesh Sharma from junior were leading their teams.From the starting of the match only juniors played very well and showed their talent while seniors were at the back foot. The first set was won by juniors by 11 - 4. The match was very interesting & there was high pressure on seniors for the second set. Even the commen-tators were doing a good job and were trying to pull audience’s

attention in the match. But even the second set juniors were far ahead in the game & won the set & the match by 11-5.In the end I just want to say winning & losing are just two side of a coin... even when you've played the game of your life, it's the feeling of hard work & teamwork that matters. You'll forget the plays, the shots, and the scores, but you'll never forget your teammates & the game.

Cricket Match Freshers v/s Seniors 2

On a lazy Friday morning, the campus was about to witness a cricket match in its premises, for the first time this semester. It is not often that one sees activity that early in the morning in IMT and that too over a weekend. Both teams arrived in the play area, to get the much anticipated and awaited match of the day underway. 6 A.M. was when the two captains stepped up in the middle for the toss. The junior team (Freshers) was asked to bat first by their senior counterparts (DCP). The 8 over a side match began with Tushar Kaushik and Joshua Noel opening the batting for the Fresher’s team. Mayank Garg opened the bowling for the DCP team. However, the Freshers team had a disastrous start, losing a couple of wickets in the first over with just 1 run on the board. From there onwards it was always going to be an uphill task to recover, and as it turned out, the team crawled their way to 28/6 in the quota of 8 overs. Support for both teams was simply incredible. The team dug outs were located behind the wicket on the onside and off side respectively. There were words of praise, encouragement and even a few sledges from the supporters, for every run scored or for a dot ball bowled. This showed the level of involvement and intensity of the teams along with the passion to perform and win.In reply to the modest target, the DCP team began with the “tried and tested” policy of keeping wickets in hands for the remaining overs as they were off to a slow but seemingly assured start. They however raised the tempo in the 4th over with some big shots, clearing the boundaries. Eventually, the DCP team reached their target in 5 overs with the score line reading 30/2 in 5 overs.The winning team was explicably jubilant with the big win. On the other hand the junior team looked a little dejected but their “never give-up” attitude clearly stood out. In the end it was the game of cricket which turned out to be ultimate winner, with the game being played in good spirits by both teams.vvvv

The sun had set down for the day giving way to a beautiful starry night, and the FOB – Sports Meet was coming to an end with the much talked about Football Match Finals between the Senior and Junior Boys. The air at IMT Dubai campus was filled with excitement and people were in high spirits. The week that passed by was full of activities and had kept everyone at the campus busy till the last hour of the day. Thanks to the sports committee it was an excellent opportunity for the students of IMT –Dubai to indulge in high spirits. With the audience excited about the match and the Fresher’s Party 2011 that was to follow the match, the enthusiastic boys’ football teams of IMT – Dubai hit the lush green grass of the lawn at 6:45pm in the evening. Victory was tasted by the Juniors’ Team with a score of 2:1 at the end of the match. Both the teams gave each other tough competition, which is proved by the fact that neither of the teams allowed each other to score a goal in the first half. Though the game had started slow by the second half the teams spruced up a bit and the game got exciting with the first goal being scored by the junior team. But it wasn’t long before the Senior team scored their first goal. The audience was now engrossed in the game and with only a few seconds left for the game to finish, the Junior team kicked their winning goal and

walked away victoriously off the ground amidst the cheers of the Junior batch.

The match wouldn’t have been half as interesting without the interest-ing witty comments of the commen-tator Ashwin of 2010 batch. As they say, all’s well that ends well, and it can be said without a doubt that this match was icing on the cake for FOB – Sports meet 2011.

CORPORATE Committee

‘Corporate Committee’ is an indis-pensable part of IMT –Dubai which is in coordination with the Advisory and Media committee organizes various corporate events, guest lecture , business seminars , business games etc. The Corpo-rate committee provides a platform for students to have one on one interaction with various business personnel’s from various sectors of the trade. Business seminars organized by this committee helps students understand the tricks of the trade, and how various organizations operate and overcome day to day obstacles. This practical knowl-edge will give the students an extra edge, and give them a better understanding of the industry. These seminars are also a great motivating tool as you can interact with people who have climbed the corporate ladder of success by applying their business knowledge.Thus the Corporate Committee is the representative of the college

Cricket Match S e n i o r s 1 v / s D C PPeople don't play sports because it’s fun. Ask any sports man, most of them hate it, but they couldn't imagine their life without it. It’s part of them. It’s what they live for. They live for the practices, parties, cheers. They live for the competition; they live for the friends, the practices, the pain & the memories.After the interesting matches of Volleyball yester-day and few matches of cricket we again return to the Cricket Matchs between the DCP batch & seniors. Even though the match was on an early Saturday morning, the supporters of both the team where present in large numbers to cheer their teams.DCP team batted first with Sudhanshu Sharma scoring highest i.e. 36 runs. In first 6 overs the team scored very fast i.e. 42 runs but in last 4 overs seniors got control over ball & DCP Batch managed to get a decent score of 70 finally in 10 overs.From the senior’s team, the first wicket fell early & then players where in lot of pressure. And they took some time to set themselves on crease. Till the 8th over their score was 46/1 & they needed 23 runs in 12 balls. But with some amazing batting by Ishank Mahajan who scored 48 runs the game completely changed. And seniors won the match when 3 balls were left to be bowled.But sports are all about Sportsmanship which seemed low in this match. There were supporters who passed personal remarks on individual players & held allegations on the umpire for not being fair. This all changed the atmosphere on the ground & moods of the players & students supporting their individual teams. The game was a great mix of caution, aggression and poor sportsman spirit.At the end I just want to ask people out there that is being perfect in a match is about scoreboard out there and about winning or is it about you and your relationship with your teammates and your opponent.

IT CommitteeThe Information Technology (I.T) Committee is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and executing designing various invitations, posters, brochures etc. It assists in technical aspects during any events at college and designs advertisements and handles audio-visual systems as and when required.

M E D I A CommitteeThe media is the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”The Media committee at IMT Dubai is precisely for those highly commit-ted and self-motivated individuals with zeal to actively participate in media and PR activities of every event scheduled in the institute.The members in this committee are responsible for all internal and external student committees’ communication. In terms of internal communication, sending emails within the committee or notices to all students, while for external communication, it involves commu-nicating with the alumni and business communities. Apart from this, the Media and PR committee is also responsible for managing the perception of IMT, and hence, is responsible for maintaining blogs, Facebook pages, annual newslet-ter – IMTimes (widely circulated), sending press releases, covering intra-college and inter-college events etc. The committee plays the role of the communication link between all other committees as well.The media committee is all about working effectively as a well-knit team, despite the increasing pressure, something that the committee prides above all. This definitely helps every member, who

is a part of this committee, to evolve into a better team player. It moulds the volunteers into taking on leadership roles, managing resources efficiently and also to be able to allocate these resources in areas they would be most effective.

Working all throughout the year along with one’s academics undoubtedly requires a high level of dedication. This committee also harbours creative individuals and provides a platform to showcase their talent and creativity in the form of writing or designing. Being a part of the best committee for all these years since its inception, is certainly something we at the Media Committee are proud of, and we shall definitely strive to ensure that our commitment, dedication and zeal remains the best for many more years to come.

SPORTS Committee

“It ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth.”The Sports Committee 2011-12 has been passed on by our seniors as the best committee amongst IMT’s gamut of committees, a stature this year’s committee intends to pass onto its juniors. The committee aims to drive-in the passion for sports and the hunger for success in the lives of those involved in the committee and outside it. Being a part of the ‘Sports Committee’ doesn’t require an individual to excel at sports; rather it requires them to have a vision towards managing an event, right from its inception till its completion and ensuring its success. The Sports Committee starts the year with Fresh off the Boat for the juniors – a week long sports event. The committee then takes up ownership of various events like Bowling, TT, Cricket and also

during interactions with the indus-try. During these sessions, students learn the practical aspect of corpo-rate communication like etiquettes and team work. Corporate Commit-tee in a way prepares students for the mature corporate culture.To sum it up, the corporate commit-tee acts as a stepping stone for students to learn and gain knowl-edge about various sectors of the industry.

D E C O R U M Committee

The decorum committee at a college is one of the most integral committee’s at work. It is responsi-ble for maintaining the discipline and decorum in the college.The decorum committee is also responsible for forming the rules and regulations pertaining to discipline at college. It has to make sure that all the students abide by the same.The decorum committee is also involved in the logistics during various cultural events carried throughout the year. The canteen menu for the students is also fixed by this committee. It has to keep a tab on students living on campus in hostels.The discipline and decorum in the hostel is looked upon by this committee. The committee is also accountable for looking after the smooth functioning of all the events at college. It has to make sure that the events are in coordination without any external or internal hindrances.To sum it up, the decorum commit-tee is liable for the right conduct on part of the students in order to maintain the peace and harmony at college.

them, and those innocent smiles made me feel that Buddha was smiling.When I boarded the flight to Dubai in the afternoon sun, I was looking out from my window pane in the fuselage and I realized how finite I am, and infinite is god, the first time when I saw the Arabian sea and the desert in the purple sun, I felt the fragility of Human Egos and the majesty of God.Remember the night sky back home, mom , it shines blue with the stars. Nothing moved, the fireflies would glow, you talked to brother about the galaxies and the infinite space, I would sit on the edge of the bench and place my head on your lap and question you about exist-ence of God and his creations.Only now I know, God does not answer he reveals his majesty and we have to join the dots. Life came to me in so many garbs, and eventually I realised the trick to survive is always to hold my head high and walk. People mistake it as success and happiness and leave me alone. I learnt it from you and I am happy.I opted for my MBA and that is the reason why I chose to be a story-teller, of products and organiza-tions, the best possible way. Remember grand dad told us stories of Mahabharata, when we were very young. He would verse every story with different garbs. I still remember the verses of Duryo-dhana, Karna and Arjuna, before they went to war. All were so perfectly fit in their own stories and emotions.Last summer when I re-read it, I just realized life is nothing but a series of stories we tell our self, of victory, loss, poverty and abundance.Nothing compares to the moment of despair that Arjuna went through when he gives it up all, and says “whom to fight against” I know what it is to give up all. Of people I have loved , I miss you the most, especially in my moments of self doubt when I die to hear your

voice sitting beside me across the veranda telling me stories of your past experience and the way you always looked at life. I love the legacy my grand fathers left behind, of infinite wisdom. What a legacy to carry. I am proud I am a Goswami.Every Sunday when I enter my class with my fellow boys and girls with a smiling face, all I see is your and dad’s smiling faces to hug me. The room starts to smell of good-ness the way it did home, and light flows. I become your little son once again sitting on the desk to absorb knowledge and store it.And may be all my life, I ever wanted was to be a good boy, your and dad’s son, other things, just metaphors.

Yes, I still try to recall two paragraphs Bhagavad Geeta you taught me and when I wake up next morning I feel all my pain is gone and I am so relaxed. Seriously life becomes so simple then.As I write this, I just realized one thing, life was all taught to me, in the afternoons of my summers and evenings of the winters in my child-hood. I was a fool to search it beyond.I wish to travel the whole world, only to return home to place my head again in your lap and listening to your stories again. Love you mom.

S t u d e n t ’ sS p e a kDear Mom, Remember when there were power-cuts in the summers before the jawans started the genera-tors in the cantonment base, you, me and brother would lie on the bed, and we would instinctively close our eyes. It was then, I learnt to dream, and when we dreamt, we did not fear the darkness, we knew that light would be there, darkness is just a phase.Now no longer there are power-cuts, and in my all search for light, I realized what you taught us, “light is within and dreams are a gateway to that light”.

It is light that annihilates all darkness. From dad came honesty, the courage to be good without reason or season, and from you came the power to dream. And both of us carried that immense wealth of honesty and dream, and came a long way, we stood where others faltered.When life stood, on a platter of infinite heart-aches, of longings and questions, we learnt to hold on to an unseen god. A god whom we prayed to everyday, irrespective of rain or storm or light or darkness. And thus in the bosom of heartaches faith was born. A faith that no experi-ence could falter. A faith to build my own life, even with worn out tools , overlooking people who repeatedly stabbed me from behind and just forgiving them with a sad smile.And it was much later in life that I saw that God, when I saw little children begging for alms in the streets of India, involved in rigorous physical labor just to have a meal to feed their stomach, and me passing by forgetting myself who i am and putting my hands in the pocket of my trousers to pull out some Indian rupees and handing out to
