Technical Sessions Tuesday Oct. 11th thru Thursday Oct 13th

8AM to 5PM Daily

Technical Sessions are one of the best ways to keep up with the latest advancements in the

Transportation Industry. This year the Florida Section IMSA is offering 3 whole days of Tech-

nical Training. Oct. 11th & 12th the Sessions will focus on the Signal and ITS side of the Indus-

try and Oct. 13th will focus on Signs and Pavement Markings.

Each day of Technical Training will provide the attendees with 8 hrs or 32 TARP points of training. These TARP point can be used for Renewal of your IMSA Certifications.

Roadway Lighting Technician Level I

Oct, 10th & 11th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar will address safety and qualifications, lamp

and luminaire components, electrical, poles and high mast compo-

nents, basic lighting design fundamentals, lighting applications,

maintenance of lighting systems and testing and investigation and

troubleshooting lighting systems.

Prerequisite: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian.

Signs & Markings Level 1

Oct. 10th & 11th (8AM - 5 PM)

This two-day seminar covers topics including: applications of

regulatory signs, warning signs, guide signs, tourist oriented di-

rectional signs, markings and markers, traffic control in school

areas, bicycle traffic control devices, safety and temporary traffic

control, installation of signs and markings and emergency man-

agement signing. Other review material has been derived from the

following publications: MUTCD, FHWA’s Standard Highway

Signs, FHWA’s Standard Alphabets for Highway Signs and Pave-

ment Markings, TRB’s NCHRP Synthesis 157 Maintenance Man-

agement of Street and Highway Signs and ITE’s Traffic Engi-

neering Handbook.

Prerequisite: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian and one year of traffic operations experience.

Signs Technician Level II

Oct. 12th & 13th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar builds upon the fundamental understanding

the student gained during the Signs and Pavement Markings Level I

program providing greater insight and a more nuanced understanding

of sign design, installation and maintenance. This program is im-

portant for the signs technician to further his or her understanding of

the criteria for the application of signs in accordance with the

MUTCD and other references.

Prerequisites: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian, Signs and Pavement Markings Technician Level I, one year of

traffic operations experience

Pavement Markings Technician Level II

Oct. 12th & 13th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar builds upon the fundamental understanding

gained during the Signs and Pavement Markings Level I program

providing greater insight and a more advanced understanding of

pavement marking materials, installation and maintenance and is

important for the pavement markings technician to further his or her

understanding of the criteria for the application of a myriad of pave-

ment markings and pavement marking materials in accordance with

the MUTCD and other references.

Prerequisite: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian, Signs and Pavement Markings Technician Level I and two

years’ traffic operations experience

Traffic Signal Field Technician Level I

Oct, 10th & 11th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar covers the basic concepts and terminology

associated with signalized traffic control devices and systems and

is designed for the entry-level technician who has had some prior

training or experience in electrical technology. Topics covered

include: principles of operation and the primary electrical details

of cabinet wiring and components; equipment, methods and mate-

rials of signal system construction; the basics of traffic signal de-

sign, maintenance and legal issues.

Prerequisite: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian.

Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II

Oct, 12th & 13th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar focuses on maintenance and repair of sig-

nalized intersections. Topics covered include: traffic signal control

system troubleshooting, on-site repairs, maintenance methods and

equipment, worksite safety, maintenance of traffic, traffic signal

system equipment standards and operation, installation, inspection,

troubleshooting, equipment repair, replacement and programming,

test equipment, signal phasing and timing, detection, system com-

munications, preventive maintenance and documentation.

Prerequisites: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian, IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I, two years’ experi-

ence in the traffic signal field

Traffic Signal Bench Technician Level II

Oct, 12th & 13th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar focuses on preparing signal cabinets for

deployment or troubleshooting and repairing cabinet components

that are brought in from the field. Topics covered include: pro-

gramming, application and maintenance of controllers, conflict

monitors, vehicle and pedestrian detection systems, communica-

tion and power wiring of the cabinet, electronic circuit operation

and fault diagnosis, the use of test equipment for diagnosis and

certification of control cabinet equipment.

Prerequisites: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian, IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I, two years of experi-

ence in the traffic signal field.

Traffic Signal Construction Technician Level II

Oct, 12th & 13th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar focuses on new or replacement traffic sig-

nal construction. Topics covered include: safe operation of con-

struction equipment (from concrete saws to cranes), planning ac-

tivities, documentation and installation of conduits, poles, mast

arms, signal heads, cabinets and inductive loops. Setup and testing

of a new signal installation is also reviewed.

Prerequisites: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian, IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I, two years’ experi-

ence in the traffic signal field

Traffic Signal Field Technician Level III

Oct, 10th (8AM – 5PM)

This one-day seminar covers a wide range of topics relating to

field expertise and general knowledge of the applied traffic signal

technologies in the discipline. You must be familiar with NEMA

Standards (TS1 & TS2), 170/2070 Standards, various traffic detec-

tion methods, setup and configuration manuals, video detection

manufacturers setup manuals, lightning protection devices, FHWA

and ITE vehicle detection manuals, data communications methods,

MUTCD, signal head types specifications and installation meth-

ods, IMSA wire and cable specifications, ITE-Traffic Engineering

Manual, ITE-Traffic Control Devices Handbook, traffic signal

preemption devices, understanding of basic electronics and electri-

cal and U.S. National Electrical Code and/or Canadian Electrical

Code.

Prerequisites: Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Techni-

cian, IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II, five years’

experience in the traffic signal field

Transportation Center System Specialist

Oct, 12 & 13th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar is for transportation professionals whose

role encompasses control and operation of a road network in a

transportation management center. It will provide an understand-

ing of key concepts for devices, equipment and software that a

TMC may utilize in daily operations and includes material on data

collection, telecommunications, sub-systems, TMC equipment,

operations and control and analysis/reporting.

Prerequisite: None.

Traffic Inspection for Advanced Technology

Oct, 12th & 13th (8AM – 5PM)

This two-day seminar is intended to certify inspectors who work

with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment and is

recommended for any traffic signal inspector who works with ad-

vanced technology found in modern transportation systems. Top-

ics covered include: test equipment, signal functions and control,

components, power systems, foundations, intersection wiring, de-

tection systems and ITS devices and communications.

Prerequisite: Traffic Signal Inspector Level I

Traffic Signal Inspector

Oct, 10th & 11th (8AM – 5PM)

Traffic signals are a key element in our transportation system and

the proper operation of traffic signals is of paramount importance

in maintaining reasonable levels of mobility. Knowledgeable traf-

fic signal inspection is required to ensure proper/specified con-

struction practices are followed during signal installation resulting

in signals that operate as intended. This is a key element in limit-

ing the liability exposure of governmental agencies associated

with malfunctioning traffic signals. Topics covered in this two-day

seminar include introduction to traffic signal inspection, inspection

of underground facilities, inspection of traffic signal supports, in-

spection of overhead equipment, inspection of the controller as-

sembly, safety requirements and final acceptance and turn-on.
