Vision:

• Improve the education pipeline, so ALL students succeed in post-secondary education to achieve living wage jobs for economic productivity.

What Do We Do?

• Provide intersegmental and actionable data to move the conversation towards learning what works for improving transitions along the education-to- workforce pipeline.

• Focus on success—using data to find the Bright Spots and Best Practices and tell the stories

• Help to convene the right people to have the right conversations with the right data

• On-going FREE support – funded and led by the CCC Chancellor’s Office

User-friendly website

Each segment has a menu of options from reports to data uploads

Aggregate, public data can be viewed by region or county

Each segment of the pipeline has critical momentum points in the student success continuum

Building the Pipeline

• Creating a shared pathway to college and career readiness

• Increasing college completion by reducing the need for remedial coursework and providing student support

• Aligning education programs with labor market demand

Institution Specific Information: Transition Reports

Each segment has an option for “Helpful Reports” that includes the transition reports

Comparables lists dispel some of the “myths” about demographics and challenges

Filters allow users to select by district or institution, K-12 graduation year cohort, and the number of years transition time between K-12 and post-secondary

Transition Reports • Feeder Summary Report: Disaggregated information on which post-

secondary institutions students transition to after K-12 graduation • Feeder Summary with ELA/Math Remediation Reports: Disaggregated breakdown of students who enroll in remedial English or math courses once reaching post-secondary (this is compiled from first college course taken) • The Feeder Student Success Summary Report: Disaggregated breakdown of student attainment of milestones such as certificates, transfers, and/or degrees • The Feeder Student Success Summary with ELA or Math Remediation Report: Combines the Remediation and Student Success Summary reports for a longitudinal look at students

• Look up a transition report…

• See if you can find your school/ district/ or

feeder high school and how many

students completed an AA or Certificate

• Look up a Program Snapshot.. • See if you can find your Community College or the Community College into which your students feed • Find a pathway that aligns with your consortium and determine how many students take classes and how many achieve a certificate, credential, or degree

What’s at Stake The Good News • After years of declining funding, CTE programs have an opportunity to

rebuild

• Numerous overlapping efforts will help to strengthen pathways, regional cooperation, and industry alignment

The Concern • Because the funding is splintered, various grants may work at cross-

purposes on the very same problems One Solution • Use unified data collection and frequent conversations among

educators to align efforts across grants

Work In Progress What WE are Doing…

The LaunchBoard team, working in partnership with the Chancellor’s Office and CDE, is currently working to update and expand a crosswalk of codes, as a first step in identifying pathways

Grantees can leverage other cohort-

based mapping efforts that have been done through initiatives such as California Partnership Academies, Linked Learning, and Math Academies, or sector maps created for SB70 and TAACCCT

Data Currently Tracked through Cal-PASS

Plus includes: • Metric 1: Program participants • Metric 2: K-12 grades • Metric 4: K-12 graduates

• Metric 7: College participation (1 course, 2 courses, program completion)

• Metric 9: Transfer • Metric 10: Associate degree • Half of Metric 11: Job placement

What YOU are Doing… Grantees are responsible for reporting on ALL of the 12

program outcome measures. Data are collected annually, from 2014-15 through 2017-

18 and must be reported in August of each year Information on specific program outcome measures

can be pulled off the LaunchBoard to include in written reports

Before the K-12 Alignment tab can be populated, two reference documents must be created:

• Pathway maps (which programs, courses, and codes). • Definitions and related activities (work-based learning, third-party credentials, training) Additional Metrics-captured at individual institutions: • Metric 3: K-12 work-based learning • Metric 5: K-12 certificates • Metric 6: Dual enrollment/credit by exam (CATEMA option) • Metric 8: College work-based learning • Half of Metric 11: Training • Metric 12: Certifications

Cal-PASS Plus Support for CA Career Pathways Trust

• Data collection and reporting locally, regionally, and to CDE – FREE

• Analysis tools and support –CTE dashboards, consultation, best practices, guides and materials on data collection

• Collaboration networks – summits, webinars, and regional facilitation

• Custom reports as needed

• Most importantly – a connection to the only system of data in California that links student level records longitudinally, across segments and on to the workplace

Next Steps…

• Ensure your partners are members of Cal-PASS Plus

• Map your pathways

• Define your data elements

• Establish your data collection plan

• Assess your existing data
