Take Five To Learn5
Talk Summary: Take 5 is about how to transform your performance you need to change your approach to learning by taking 5 minutes every day to learn & try something new
“the secret of success of every person who has ever been successful lies in the fact that he formed the habit of doing things that failures don't like to
do”
Albert e.n gray 1940 Talk Summary: We typically binge learn, but it is easy to commit to because everyone can spare a day. Little and often is the hardest because it takes the most commitment to make time every day.
Talk Summary: We often forgot to remind ourselves of “why” we want to learn. Before you can change how you learn you need to ensure you are clear on what you want to learn and why learning this will help you get what you want not just out of work but life.
Ideas
//Latest Idea:
<Be Nice to People=Be Happy at Work>
I
Talk Summary: The mistake many people make when learning is to focus on learning new ideas and then stop there. We do not put the effort in to convert ideas practice which limits our true learning and improved performance. This is why #take5 focuses on the next two slides
ContextC
Talk Summary: Context is about applying a new idea to your own situation. Conversations between peers, managers and friends are critical to give an understanding of how an idea can benefit your own or your teams situation.

Talk Summary: This is where the rubber meets the road, without making the effort to put an idea in to practice you are just wasting your time. Taking 5 is about every day taking 5 minutes to put something that you have learned into practice

Where Ideas
Become Reality
Talk Summary: I.C.E Learning is about working to ensure that every time you take 5 to learn you have an idea to provoke thought, a conversation to give context and an take 5 minutes to execute to ensure learning turns into performance
Read a BlogICE Talk Summary: Most people will read a blog and think “that was a nice
idea” but do you take 5 minutes to talk to someone about how you can use the idea to help you. Even if you do do this do you make time to practice or try your new idea. other wise it is time wasted
Listen InICE Talk Summary: Seeing someone else do their job is the best way to
learn. How proactive are you in asking for opportunities to listen into others doing their jobs. You just have to make the effort to ask and then ensure you apply what you see to your own behaviour.
3: Get Feedback
FeedbackICE Talk Summary: Feedback is not waiting for your annual appraisal. Are
you asking for feedback every day from colleagues or internal clients. Take their feedback and discuss what their thoughts are as to how you can do things differently. The key is actually putting the feedback in to practice?
NetworkICE Talk Summary: Networking is not about the number of connections or
friends you have. It is about meeting new people internally and externally in your organisation that you are learning new ideas from. the trick is being consistent in your application of the ideas you get.
Shadow YouICE Talk Summary: A leader should never act alone. Having someone
listen or shadow you forces you to get back to basics and as well as you can. A good leader is always happy to have people shadow as they relish the challenge of stepping up to the plate.
Watch A VideoICE Talk Summary: YouTube is a learners best friend, there are endless
short videos of people sharing ideas and techniques, the trick is to watch it with someone else and discuss how you could apply the ideas, then taking 5 to actually try what you see in the video
Help Me!ICE Talk Summary: What was the last time you asked for help? Too many
organisations make it too difficult to ask for help or say “I do not know” It takes courage to ask, however having the courage to ask “I NEED HELP” is often the only way to progress.
Training NotesICE Talk Summary: When was the last time you reviewed the notes and
action items from your last training course? Reviewing your notes on your own or with your manager is the best way to ensure a return on the time you invested. Otherwise you have wasted your time on the course.
Record & ReviewICE Talk Summary: We have all thought “I could have done that better”
after a call, meeting or presentation. The most successful people are in the habit of recording themselves in new and difficult situations. You are your own harshest critic, so leverage that side of you and start recording & reviewing
Manager AdviceICE Talk Summary: Your manager is the custodian of your career. You should
regularly ask for their advice on something you could improve at. If you do this the conversation should not only be constructive, but they will help give you the support you need and hold you accountable for change by following up.
