    Introduction

The Rankine cycle is an idealized

thermodynamic cycle of a heat engine that

    converts heat into mechanical work.

    Also called power plant cycle

It is named after William John Rankine, a

Scottish professor of mathematics at Glasgow

    University .

    Hypothesis

This cycle follows the idea of the Carnot cycle but

It can be practically implemented still has lowefficiency. If we directly use this cycle into the

power plant for generation power then this willproduce the less amount of mechanical work. sohere we will modify this cycle by using following

methods and assuming that this will increase the

    efficiency1. Reheat

    2. Regeneration

    Methodology

Reheat-split a single turbine stage into twoturbine stage for using the wet steam at exit

of a single turbine stage to generate the work

    Regeneration

in ideal rankine cycle when the workingsubstance comes from the pump it enters theboiler. But until a certain point temperature

stays low. this diminishes efficiency. Toovercome this drawback following step maytake

We can bleed the flow from turbine and heat

it before reentering boiler. This process iscalled as regeneration

    Regeneration

Preheats steam entering boiler using a feedwater heater, improving efficiency.

    AnalysisIdeal Rankine Cycle

This cycle consists four processes1-2 isentropic pump 2-3 constant pressure heat addition

3-4 isentropic turbine 4-1 constant pressure heat rejection

    Efficiency of Simple Rankine Cycle:

As we know, efficiency is the ratio between output and

input. Here the output is work done and input is heatenergy.

Net work done = work done in turbine + work done inpump

Net heat transfer = heat produced in boiler + heatrejected in condenser

    Result

After the mathematical analysis of the cyclewe found that the efficiency of the cycle isincreased i.e. we are getting more mechanical

    work from the previous one
