food WHO IS BEHIND TANTO?
TANTO wines are grown and produced in Abruzzo by Ettore Galasso.
Here is a picture of Ettore Galasso , his daughter Stefania and one of his workers., taken in one of the family vineyards.
Coming from the North of Italy, the Galasso family has been operating in Abruzzo, since the end of 1800. The, at the time,
large patriarchal family that bought the land and settled in this area, has always been producing extra virgin olive oil, fruit
and grape and trading their own products. In the mid sixties the patriarchal family underwent a complete change in
structure and split dividing the business into various streams. Ettore Galasso, the present owner, took over most of the
vineyards and in the seventies started bottling his own wine.
Ettore Galasso’s mission is to produce great value, honest wines. He would like to sell his wines through commercial partners
with whom he wants to establish long terms cooperation. He is looking for project partners not for one time sales.

WHERE IS ABRUZZO?
Ettore Galasso’s vineyards, in Abruzzo, are spread in the Provinces of Pescara and Chieti, an area that goes
from close to the sea to the point where the hills become mountains and mountains become the
Appennini Range. This area is delimited West by the Appennini with its highest mountain, Gran Sasso,
reaching almost 3000 mt. asl and East by the Adriatic Sea. The area enjoys a considerable
temperature excursion between night and day which is extremely important for vine growing
especially at the time of final maturation, in the summer. The growing system is both traditional tent
and new spurred cordons.

food WHAT IS ABRUZZO LIKE?
Abruzzo region has the most national parks and forests of any Italian region and has been nicknamed "the lung" of Italy.
It is also the least populated region in Italy dominated by mountains that cover nearly two-thirds of the region.
Although it is temperate overall, temperatures can change dramatically between night and day because of the high altitudes
and in some areas the vicinity of high mountains to the coast.Vines and Abruzzo are inextricably linked with some ancient vineyards
found in the most remote areas of the region. Nowadays vineyards can be found from the coastline right up towards the mountains
where the tradition dates from preRoman times. Vineyards cover 41.3% of the usable agricultural land with an annual grape
production of about 500 million tonnes which corresponds to 360 million litres of wine a year.
Montepulciano is the most important varietal produced in the region. Abruzzo vineyards also produce white Trebbiano grapes
as well as Sangiovese, Merlot, Pecorino, Coccilina, Cabernet Sauvignon , Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio.
