Aztec Mask

Sophia (Y5) and Arthur (Reception) have been busy making a salt dough present for their nan-ny's 70th birthday. They made the salt dough by measuring out flour, salt and water. They then mixed it into a dough, rolled it out and pressed their hands into it. When it was dry, they painted it. It looks fantastic—well done Sophia and Ar-thur!

Safeguarding

Given the recent school closures, we have up-dated our safeguarding policy in line with govern-ment guidance. The policy can be accessed via our school website under general info and poli-cies .

With children off school for an indefinite peri-od, Professor Cartwright-Hatton, professor of clinical child psychology at the University of Sussex spoke to the BBC to give a number of tips on how parents can help their children cope. Her tips are likely to be of help to both children and adults. Find the full article here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-51959957

Parachute Power

"In February I spent a day filming for the new Lidl Spring advert which is on TV at the mo-ment. To get this part I had to audition twice. I loved watching the chefs making the food but we weren't allowed to eat any. We had to film each part over and over but it was really fun and filming lasted the whole day. It's amazing how much work and how many people it takes to make an advert which is just 20 seconds long" Florence 4D

You can check out the advert here:

We are very proud of you Florence– Well done!

Amazing Acting Wartime Baking

I have made an eggless sponge cake from the wartime recipe book with my family. Measuring in ounces was very difficult as our scales was an old manual machine. We didn’t put the sultanas in because I don’t like them. After we made them we ate them with large helpings of butter.—Ishaq (Y6).

It looks tasty! Well done Ishaq!

I have been working on my parachute. I used a plastic bag, ice cream tub, tissue, string and a egg pot. After making it we tested it out and guess what egg didn’t crash—Sara (Y2). Well done Sara!

Family Fun

This week, I helped my Mum and sister with their cooking like scraping the carrots and cut-ting other vegetables. I also went on a run with my Dad near to the Rugby stadium. I also did my TT Rockstars because I wanted to get to my next level.– Riyan (Y3) Well done Riyan!

Foodbank

We have been approached by a local Richmond church who are delivering food parcels to schools in the borough who have expressed a need for them on behalf of some of their families. The parcels are available to families who are struggling financially at this difficult time and would like to receive a supply of every day food essentials. If you would like to receive this offer of support, please contact the school office with your name and the number of people in your household as soon as possible. We will then be able to have the parcel delivered to you. This will not affect any other support that you currently receive (benefits, free school meal vouchers etc)

News of our two Whole School Learning Challenges! We are pleased to announce two whole school learning challenges for children to enjoy while school is closed. Some year groups have already been given details of these challenges with their learning packs, while other year groups will be providing details when their new pack is

sent out since there will be slightly different expectations for each age group. Meanwhile, please read on to find out more about the general idea behind the challenges.

1 Map Making and Story Writing

JK Rowling said, There’s always room for a story that can transport people to another place.”

Never has this statement been more relevant than now, at a time when so many restrictions have

been placed on our everyday lives, and we can’t travel more than a few hundred metres from our

own homes.

With this in mind, we are asking all children in the school to write a story which will transport readers to another time, another place, and a new adventure whilst respecting social distancing rules and without even having to leave their sofas!

Huw Lewis-Jones, the author of a lovely book called The Writer;s

Map said, “For some writers mak-ing a map is absolutely central to

the craft of shaping and telling their tale.”

2 Creating a Time Capsule To mark this unique time in history, we are asking every child in the school to make a record of this time in their life to help future historians understand just what it was like to be a child in 2020, a year which may well go down in history as one of the most remarkable of our lifetimes.

You will find in your learning pack a time capsule template which you can either print and complete as it is, or, if you pre-fer, use for ideas for creating a unique time capsule of your own design. We know that many of you will relish the oppor-tunity to showcase your creativity and imagination!

Some of you may even want to take it a step further and choose artefacts to stash away in a box, the contents only re-vealed in years to come. Think of the memories this will evoke, and how fascinated your children or grandchildren will be!

If you have not yet received details of these challenges, please look out for further instructions from your child’s class teacher. We do hope that as many children as possi-ble will take part, and very much look forward to reading your stories, looking at your maps and finding out what might be in your time capsules!
