Students and chaperones favorite things on the Washington D.C. trip: Korean Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, the Capitol building, the Smithsonian, the Holocaust Museum, African American Cultural Dance Performance, Arlington National Cemetery, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Starbucks in the airport, Williamsburg, Gettysburg, Mount Vernon, and bonding with classmates.

A quote from one student sums it up for all of them: “The Washington D.C. trip was so much fun and really educational! The entire trip was an amazing glimpse into our country’s history and the sacrifices made for our freedom. The fundraising was totally worth it!”

Cathie ScheidCathie Scheid has been teaching for over 30 years; 19 at PCS as Elementary Choir Teacher (grades 4-6) and Jr. High choir. She has a double major with a Bachelor of Science in Music and Elementary Education from Minot State University, Minot, ND.

Tell me a little bit about your family: I grew up in a loving Christian family with 4 brothers and no sisters. I told my mom when I got married I was going to have 3 girls and no boys. My husband, Ernie and I have 4 sons and no daughters but now 3 sons are married so I have “daughters” and two granddaughters, Ayla and Macie.

Fun Facts:Favorite meal? Anything pasta!

If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?In June 2007 I joined several family members and we went to Israel. If I ever have another opportunity I would want to go back to Israel.

Mrs. SchwartzwalterMrs. Schwartzwalter has always dreamt of teaching in the same building as her daughter. Forty-three years later, she is! She is Mrs. Weinberger’s mother, Mackenzie and Jack’s grandmother, and former K-5th grade classroom teacher and 6th grade music teacher. She taught for 30 years in South Dakota and West Fargo, finishing her formal career in West Fargo for an additional 13 years as a para professional. And she isn’t done teaching!

She now volunteers three mornings a week at Park Christian School assisting three teachers in K and 1st grade.

What do you love most about teaching? My greatest blessing is watching little faces brighten up when they discover that they’ve learned

Electronic reading device or a real book? Real book.

What do you love most about teaching? Helping children learn to use their voices to worship and praise God through singing. Music is a wonderful gift and it should be shared!

What do you like to do in your spare time? Spend time with family and friends, travel, read.

What is a favorite memory of Park Christian School? I love being able to sing about the real meaning of Christmas – Jesus! Every year the elementary choir students sing their Christmas songs at West Acres Mall and those days will always be my favorite memories. The choir students sing and smile and share the good news that our Savior is born. God’s presence is felt and I think He is pleased with His children from PCS who are not ashamed to sing about Jesus in that public place.

The best part about following Jesus is…..knowing that He loves me unconditionally and wants only His best for me. I can rest knowing that He is in control and nothing can separate me from Him!

something new. And, of course, the hugs are always an added blessing!

What does PCS mean to you? PCS is a shining beacon of light in a dark and perplexed world. PCS is here for such a time as this!

The best part about following Jesus is….knowing that through Him I have a future ion heaven where I will see Him face to face.

5Angie ShermanHow long did you attend PCS?I attended PCS for 10 years and graduated in 2010.

Give us a short synopsis of life since PCS –where you attended college, and what are you doing now?Since graduating I have attended North Dakota State University studying Business Administration. I took a brief hiatus to travel around the world with the program Youth with a Mission. During this time I lived in New Zealand for 3 months and took Bible courses. From New Zealand I then traveled for another 3 months through 5 different countries in Southeast Asia doing missionary work.

What are your plans for the immediate future and beyond? My plans right now are to finish up my business degree and then go where God leads me!

Did you feel Park prepared you well for life’s journey? If so, how?Yes. To this day I am still very close with individuals from Park, and am so thankful for the support system of the close knit community. Being around people who are seeking after God and speaking truth into my life helped me to develop confidence in my identity in Christ.

I am also grateful for the work ethic and study habits that I developed while attending PCS. It made the transition from high school to college very smooth.

The best part about following Jesus is……the adventures He takes me on. True fullness of life is only found once we choose to deny ourselves and let Jesus lead.

“I just wanted to thank your school/football program for the wonderful intro they did to the play-off game between PC & UH-NCE. I have never heard such a positive promotion of sportsmanship, usually, it’s a warning to fans instead. I was also impressed with the intro prior to the National Anthem that reminded fans & players why we play it and who provided us the right to gather for a game. Immediately after that, when the National Anthem started to play, I was once again impressed, if not astounded, that every child on the playground and every person walking to the field from the parking lot, stopped and paid respects during the song.

It was by far, the best intro I have heard for a high school sporting event. Thank you for taking the time to make it positive and reflective.” - sent to us from a visiting fan

In December, we will continue in our study of the theme verses, moving into Romans 12:6-8. Our focus will be on the spiritual gifts God has given to each one of us. We will also discuss how our gifts are different from each other sometimes leading to confusion and conflict. Our goal is to be intentional about seeing each person’s uniqueness and gifts through the eyes of Christ, recognizing what may seem irritating to us may be a demonstration of a gift that is just different than ours.

Look for times to have conversations with your child(ren) about the gifts you see in them and help them to start recognizing the gifts in others too!

Heaven’s AngelsAs Christmas draws near, we would like to remind everyone of our Heaven’s Angels Fund which monetarily gifts our teachers and staff at Christmastime. Donations can be made at any time by dropping them off in the school office with PCS Parent Association “Heaven’s Angels” on the front of the envelope and memo line. We want to thank all those who have donated in the past to allow us to continue with this tradition!

Cost $6 per CarPlease use this coupon when purchasing

your ticket at the park ticket booth. The display is open from

November 29 – December 31, 5:30pm to 10:30pm daily.

Park Christian School will receive a $2 donation for each certificate collected

by the FM Sertoma Club.

PARK CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

This is my favorite time of the year. I thoroughly enjoy the decorations, the music, and the message of Christmas! I look forward to the concerts, programs, and projects. I love the food, fellowship, and giving. And, most of all, I appreciate how Christ is clearly the center of Christmas at Park Christian School! You can see Christ in the decorations, art work, concerts, and programs. We are “Distinctly Christian. On Purpose.”

I recently had a conversation with a Park mom. She is convinced many more families would choose Park Christian School for their children if they knew more about the school. And, in some cases, if they even knew the school existed at all! Her eyes widened as she expressed how much their family loves the school. She even suggested we consider a daily shuttle bus from Detroit Lakes. Her point was clear. Park Christian School is a great school and more families need to know about it. It is worth the drive and cost to attend. She really blessed me.

Here’s where you come into the picture. More people do need to know about what God is doing at our school and what He might want to do in their lives. By wearing Park Christian apparel or adorning your vehicles with PCS stickers you are helping to promote the school! Mr. Tunheim was wearing a PCS jacket at a restaurant recently and a dad came over to him and asked him questions about the school. The dad said they have been thinking about sending their children to the school and really appreciated talking with him about it.

The Falcons’ Nest has something for you. Maybe it’s a gift for someone else. Or, maybe it’s a shirt, jacket, blanket, hat, or flag for you. Thank you for spreading the word about Park Christian School. God is continuing to do amazing things. Let’s tell people about it!

May your Christmas be truly Christ-centered. Merry Christmas!

Amazed by God,
