Thank you to all our parents who have already
been on the PTO system for booking in
Student Led Interviews coming up next week.
If you haven’t done so, please go on line and book in a time to meet with your child and their teacher. All
students are required to attend the interviews. Bookings close online at 5pm tomorrow evening. Once
the online system is closed you will need to see your child’s class teacher directly if you wish to make an
appointment. If you would like to talk to the specialist teachers (Art, Music, History or Environmental
Science), please leave your details at the office and the Specialist teachers will get back to you with a

We are very excited to say that work on our new play space will be starting over the holidays. Tony and his crew from
Buildscape will begin with the big structural items while we are away and then will include us in some of the work through
working bees. This includes planting many trees, moving mulch and creating garden beds. Thank you to our School
Council members who have been working in the background to get the project started, and especially to Kelly Blake who
worked with Landscape Architect Justin Staggard to came up with our long term concept plan. The three sections will take
us a few years to complete. It will be great to see our fundraising efforts coming alive in our school yard. Well done
everyone!
Even though it does take time to fundraise and get enough money to do things around our school, School Council does
have a plan of projects we would love to complete over the next few years. Our top three outdoor projects are: the new
playspace, resurfacing of the basketball/netball courts, and new turf on our oval. All our fundraising efforts will go
towards these three projects over the next few years. I hope that all families can support us as much as possible in all our
fundraising efforts, so that we can achieve these wonderful projects that will really make an impact on the grounds our
children use every day. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Our school review process is continuing with lots of people offering feedback about our school. Don’t forget that we are
holding a parent coffee and chat session on Tuesday June 25th at 9am in the staffroom. If you have some great ideas, or
are just interested in hearing and sharing with others, we would love you to come along.
Appreciations to:
Georgie and Chloe for being wonderful Office monitors. Thank you for all your help girls.

Chaplain’s corner A little background story about me - Jason Brown, the new School Chaplain.
I began my working life as a Land Surveyor, before becoming a Primary Teacher. After teaching here in Geelong, I become a
qualified Counsellor and practised in Geelong West. Currently I am the Chaplain at two other primary schools in Highton. I have
three children and live locally. My son Jack Brown has wonderful memories of attending here at ‘Mano’. I have many interests in
sport, community gardening and I help run the Geelong West Neighbourhood House.
I will be available next term from 1st August on Thursdays and Fridays. Parents are encouraged to speak with me on these days,
particularly if you have concerns regarding social, emotional and family difficulties. Kind Regards,
Jason Brown
School Chaplain
Kids Teaching Kids Launch Exciting news! Manifold Heights Primary School has been offered the opportunity to
launch the Kids Teaching Kids Week on 6th of September!
Kids Teaching Kids Week is a free, national, inquiry based, peer teaching program that
uses the local environment as a theme and focus for learning. Students of all ages find
solutions to complex environmental problems such as climate change, water, waste,
conservation, energy, drought, population and pollution. Students research, develop
and then perform songs, comedy, dance routines, poems, plays and experiments for
their classmates to deliver their messages about the environment.
For over 13 years Kids Teaching Kids has inspired more than 66,000 children across Australia to learn about, care for and respect their
local environment. Kids Teaching Kids helps build resilience in students through fostering high self-esteem and facilitating genuine
community connections.
We are looking for mentors to assist us in exploring a local environmental issue to present at this event – if you, or someone you know,
is willing and able to help, please contact Mrs Liz Hines ASAP on 0418501998. Thanks!

In response to a request from School Council, our school is trialling an app from
Skoolbag. The purpose of the app is to assist us in communicating more effectively with
our Parent/Student community. The free trial is for 30 days and will only be available to iPhones during this trial period. The app has
been pre-populated with the information already contained on our website. We will be updating this information and sending out “push”
alerts (alerts that pop up on your phone like a message does) over the next 30 days as we explore the many great benefits of modern
technology! Feedback so far from parents who have downloaded the app has been that they find the app “very convenient especially
when we are constantly on our phones and on the go without access to a newsletter.”
Should we decide to purchase the app, the Android version will then be available to download in the Google Play
Store. In the meantime we encourage you to download the app and let us know your thoughts on it. Just look for our
school name "Manifold Heights Primary" in the Apple “App Store”, and install it on your iPhone. It is free for parents to
download and use. If you require any assistance please phone 1300 661 031 or email [email protected]
Life Skills
On Thursday the 13th June, the Life Skills group went on the number 51 bus to Pakington Street.
We walked to the big Vinnie’s and had a treasure hunt there. Wayne and Kasem found the board games,
Julian found where the shoes were and Josh found a Hawthorn scarf and hat and wished he had his
pocket money with him!
We walked to a cafe called Yaya’s. They sell drinks and Churros. Churros are Spanish donuts; they are
long like a stick not round. We each had one and chocolate sauce to dip them in. They are so yummy.
Most of us had a milk shake but Austin had a hot chocolate. The lady at the cafe was really nice and we
would love to go back to Yaya’s again.
We visited a new local business called LED World and talked to the friendly owner called Simon. He told
us about different sorts of lights.
Thank – you to Priscilla, Mrs Mundine and Mardi for taking us!
Josh Barrowman and Wayne Driscoll.
Kaisercraft are kindly sponsoring a weekly Art Award this term. Each week one student
will receive a $20 Kaisercraft voucher. This week’s Art Award goes to:
Romayne Ciuffetelli - for working skilfully and creatively on his Indonesian puppet
The results of our recent Playgroup
survey indicate that we have
overwhelming support for a playgroup at Mano! The majority of parents who completed survey chose Friday morning for
their preferred day/time to attend playgroup. We also have a great indication of types of activities they would like their
children to participate in and ages of children attending. The school is now in a position to move forward with the
registration of the playgroup and its members. If you would like to attend the playgroup, you will need to register with
Playgroup Victoria and pay a yearly membership fee of $30 ($20 concession card holders). We also need the assistance
of a parent to volunteer as playgroup co-ordinator so that the group runs effectively and activities/equipment meet your
needs. If you would like to take on this volunteer role, please come and see Kylie in the office asap. We would like to have
the playgroup up and running by the commencement of Term 3.
Swimming Program Term 4
The Swimming Program for students Prep to
Gr. 2 will take place in Term 4 for 2 weeks,
Monday 18th November to Friday 29th
November. The venue is the Geelong College
Recreation Centre Aphrasia St. Newtown.
It is a worthwhile program for all students to attend. The
approximate cost is $80.00 for the 2 week swimming Program.
Look forward to more updates during Term 3.
Kind Regards, Mrs. Bencic
Last Tuesday morning the four school captains
attended the North Geelong Young Leaders Breakfast.
We all had breakfast
and completed a group leadership task with other young leaders from around Geelong.
We came up with ideas on how to stop a skate park being bulldozed because of
vandalism and graffiti. Many ideas were suggested involving security cameras,
petitions and fences. The head coach of the Geelong Supercats, Jamie O’Loughlin,
talked to us about his life and his experiences in leadership positions. There were also
three of the Supercats players and we had the opportunity to ask them questions. We
had a great morning and are thankful to the teachers and students at North Geelong
Secondary College for organising this fabulous breakfast.
